Sparky6420: For me it really is the thought that counts. I give very good gifts but don't always expect something in return.
you are right,it's the thought that counts, but i give a good quality gift to one guy in particular, and he gives me JUNK in return .there is NO excuse for this,as he is LOADED!

I bought my friend a really expensive gift for X-mas one year and she got me coffee creamer from the gas station where she worked. She bought it but got a bulk discount so it was like $5. So I know how you feel. I still do not skimp on gifts because I like picking out just the right thing.
lion131: this happens to me every christmas without fail (almost as bad as my aunt giving me the same stockings every year!)
Its not funny when you are on the receiving in of the cheap gift huh? well I have grown since then and Its not what you get its what you give always and you will be remember as the nephew that gave the best gifts
I am very meticulous in choosing gifts. I spend months sometimes looking for that perfect gift for everyone. Most of the time I don't even get a gift in return. It doesn't bother me one bit. I love my family and friends and am happy and proud to do for them. Besides I personally love the homemade or simple gifts the most.

Hmmm, well, wow. My grandma always told me not to count someone else's money. If it happens to you every time, don't buy him expensive gifts?
Interesting, I never thought about this subject at all, I guess it doesn't bother me one way or another.

Save the gift they give you this year.... and give it back to them next year.... they should get the hint after about 2 or 3 years..... that or they will think you are scrooge personified !
The price of gift that someone gives to me is not the most important thing to me.It's all about the love behind that gift that should count the most.
I had someone give me a gift once which I could tell was purchsed from a dollar store but I didn't let on I knew.
I once recieved some wildflowers given to me from someone who was once my boyfriend at the time which he picked out in the woods. Maybe to some people they wouldn't had been like recieving a dozen roses but to me they meant the world.
what I usually do.. is when I leave... I "forget" to take it with me.. If they are at my house... I will set it in a very inappropiate place.. (like on top of the trash, or in the dog's bed.. and never touch or go near it.. I'm usually quite thoughtful in that respect.. I do not want "favors".. all I ask.. is to be treated as I do you.. but... (as I'm sure we will even see here..) Folks have all kinds of "reasons" (i.e. excuse's) why THEY should like their gift.. and YOU should be satisfied with yours.. yeah... it's the thought.. If it's just the "thought" that counts.. go tell all them without healthcare, a job, or even food.. "that I'm thinking about em".. With the advent of commercialisim... Christmas has turned into either a "gimmie gimmie".. or a bahhhhhhh.. hum-bug..!! ---SoldierByte---

A few years back I bought my g/f a really nice rug for Christmas, in fact it was so nice I almost decided to keep it for myself and buy her something else.
Just as well I didn't, she'd bought me exactly the same rug!!!

It happens to me a lot. I don't worry about it. People give the gifts they can afford to & I'm happy that people think of me and get me a gift at all. I really enjoy Xmas present shopping and putting a lot of thought and time into choosing something for each person. Only spending a small amount on the people closest to me doesn't factor in my thinking, but that's just me.
This year.. I'm pulling out ALL the stops.. I'm gonna go WILD and let the chips fall where they may.. not gonna worry bout cost, quantity, or even giving to folks I barely know.. This year.. I'm gonna be the bigtime giver.. To ALL my friends, relatives, pals, associates, and yes.. even my enemys.. I'm gonna give until I'm bone dry... flowerbox flowers and CS ecards for ALL..!! I'm gonna give til the site cuts me off.. I'm no cheap lil wanna-be.. I'm the real thing.. ---SoldierByte---
