Whats the best way to deal with abusive posters? (117)
roseofsharon: Well... what is perceived as "abusive" can be subjective, yeah? We all have different boundaries of acceptability, what's appropriate, etc. There are varying degrees of considering ourselves "easy-going", "laid back", etc.
Having said that, there have been some threads/posts that, to most of us, would be deemed totally offensive.
In that case, I have no qualms about reporting someone. I think the key is not to feed the ego, nor encourage the poster. The best thing is to just not post where you feel you cannot give credence to what is tantamount to offensive/obnoxious behaviour, nor complete inane drivel.

Since I am one of the lassies of Lancashire, and one of the instigators of this poll, I feel duty bound to point out to other members whilst discussing this matter with my learned colleague (don't swap hot pot recipes) of the amount of abusive threads over the past few months, some of which have been highly offensive, trish and I have often discussed the mentality and obviously determined attempts to offend. I had observed tonight the personal attacks on trish about non english speaking members, this was uncalled for as our original thread was "whats the best way to deal with abusive posters?" not one particular poster and she adhered to that the all way through the thread. Never once mentioning anyone's name, not to mention the tirade of certain members who is full of mind, the debate was up for grabs and the poll showed the response fully that abusive posters should be ignored, I feel truly sorry for trish having to take the brunt of accusations which I can assure you couldn't be further from truth, and I was not around to take some of the flak myself

Not to be the contrarian, but I think there are multitudes of things I could deem abusive or hateful, but somone else might think it was an excellent post. Majority rule?

But dont worry for me, my shoulders are pretty strong and I can take it
I guess its like Indy says above, dont take it to heart - and I dont so no problem
