gangel: Mountaineering?
Wherever i go i am and have always been drawn to the mountains, whether it be climbing, skiing, mountain biking or mountaineering. Still a bit of an adrenaline junkie i guess.

rasgumby: Hiked all around it... I dont have a death wish to climb it....Im a hiker not a climber. Too many people die there every year!
ARE YOU KIDDING! HECK... I FELL OFF OF MY ROOF!
Not entirely supprised with your comment about not having a death wish to climb. In reality, climbers do not have a death wish, far from it, more of a lust for life in my experience. Rock climbing scores quite low on the fatalities scale compared to many other seemingly less hazardous sports. The whole ethos of climbing is built around safety and whilst there are extremists as in most sports, climbing for most is a relatively safe sport.
Oh and by the way.... there have been just five fatalities on Devils Tower since 1937. Three of them whilst rappelling on the way down.

Must be some really old intel?! more than 15 have died there since the beginning of 2000. when I lived in Rapid city, it always came across our local news,, and 3 fell and died one day when I was there.
I think they may not want it to be well known knowledge so as not to scare off tourist. big business there!!! oh well. the whole state is just Beautiful, so are the black hills in South Dakota and Custer state park.
Culture and history ; during the day I want to go to the museum or to see a monument of historical importance; at night it has to be the theater or the opera or if in Paris the moulin Rouge,... why not?

Has there ever been anyone killed? Yes, there have been five climbing fatalities since 1937. Three of these fatalities occurred while descending (rappelling) the Tower.

Maybe your right and they want to 'muddle' the figures
But in the UK our National Park figures in a matter of this nature would be accurate.
exploration of Botanic gardens .... local landscapes ... trying to find some bizzare plants to bring back home.
Culture/History: I do like to go into the small vilages and towns ... it is where the real Culture and History can be discovered. Big Cities are for tourists ... they do not give real feel and understanding of History. They made for tourist's attraction. They are just a show bussiness.

Would love to visit the area though.
You can't see it in the picture, but on the south side there is still part of an old wooden ladder that was built all the way to the top.

Bro- I was just trying to share a park with you, All I can tell you is what I know from living there, I can't tell you their reasoning for not giving factual info.

I would be inclined to believe the figures you have quoted rasgumby. I must admit, when i read that report i was suprised, 5 fatalities over such a long time in a large climbing area as that seems suspiciously low. Anyway, thanks for the info, maybe i will make it there one day.
