One of the critical points on John McCain is his age. Not to mention he has been in Washington a long time. He can cover somewhat the age issue with a VP candidate that is young enough to replace him and carry on if something happens.
He places experience out there everytime in his campaign speeches and media talks. We all know where expereince come from, from being old. But is there a point where a person is to old for the position of Presidency? 75? 80? Should we make it law? Or a consitutional change?
Let us all remember former President Reagon taking naps at times. So did Winston Churchill and other leaders. Do you see the next 4 year of a McCain Presidency being so stressful he would curling up the couch in the Oval office for a rest daily? Making him the couch potatoe President.

I didn't vote in your poll but I do have some concerns about electing a president of an elevated age. While years of experience is desirable it is also a two edged sword. I know that in my own case at my own age I don't relate to 20 somethings issues the way I did when I was in my 20's. While it's true he can pick a younger running mate, I don't especially want a president that wasn't elected by the people but instead was "chosen". I don't wish it on him but if McCain was elected and 6 months later he kicked the bucket, we would be under an UN-elected president for 3.5 years based on current executive branch rules. To me this is unacceptable. Think about Dan Quale and ask yourself would you want him as president? I damn sure wouldn't.

Age is one of his weaker areas, in my opinion. That is why I poled on it. If Obama gets the Demo canidancy and with McCain looking to be a shoe in at this point for the Republican. My thinking in you will soon see McCain a in a jogging suit and Obama with a pipe. As thier managers try to shape them for the run.
I do agree on the VP. But we do vote for a team in a sense. For both of them, VP selection is going to be important. Advantage goes the Republicans here. There Convention is after the Dems and they can adjust off thier team here.
But you're are going to see a lot Convention floor tactics for VP selection on this one. I got the feeling last night listening to the Hillary/Obama Texas debate that Hillary might opt out for VP. Her ending was almost a convention floor introduction speech.
McCain is running into campaign funding spending limits problems. He tried to get Obama to accept them...and Obama saw the trap and avoided it. This could really hurt him if he cannot serious spending till September. A real slow start on a run.
They are going to write poly sci text books on this Presidential primary and Presidential run. Small quotes and paras to Thompson, Guilani, Romney, and Richardson Sorry guys
You guys got that one right. This Presidential run has more interest and emotion in it than any of the ones I can remember. I hope the winner can do a good 'bind the nation' speech after it ends. We have been picking each other apart way to long on this one. Some where in the middle of all this, we need to be Americans....not Dem or Reb or Ind.jmo

I agree with Ooby. Very well said. Political threads, particularly these days, are treacherous waters. But in my observation, you've always done a great job of looking at things objectively.
