When you have a star the magnitude of President Obama. A young man at age 49. With a family of 3. And leading a country of 304m. It is always good to look down the road to his future. He already has the Nobel Peace Award.

Here is a man that spans the racial barriers of white and black. That spans the difference between America and Africa. That many say is the modern man complete.

So if a global petition to place President Obama into the United Nation Secretary Seat was drafted and circulated online, would you sign it? Would support his nomination and canidancy for United Nation's Secretary General?

A couple of key dates and terms. His first term in the United States Presidency ends in January 20, 2013. He would run again in fall of the 2012, with a election of Nov. 4, 2012. The present Secretary General of the United Nations is Ba Ki-Moon. His first term expires on Dec 31, 2011. He is eligible for a second term.

So either way in 2012 or 2016....President Obama would either resign a year early from the United State Presidency. Or would sit aside for nearly 3 waiting for the position to open.

Your thoughts?

This is/was so funny while reading...I had to pause a couple of times to regain my composure.

I had to look also to see if this was in the right category (Jokes and Humor)! I see that you put it in the wrong place, mistakes can happen...just look at Obama...now there is a fine example of a mistake (JMO)!

I would have to say..."NO, hell no" to your question.

This is my opinion, if I still have one!

Not sure if you are thinking this one thru completely. Instead of a full four year term in his US presidency, only a 3 year term. And no second term if appointed to the UN Sectretary General position in 2014.

Can't afford him!On the other hand

Now come on Conrad...we are pulling out all the stops here. The world helped to elect him to the US Presidency, so I figure they must like him a lot. So? What place next best step for him, than the UN Secretary General office?

Fair is fair, Conrad.

I just want to see if the world also like him to be a governing figure over their countries as well. Think of all the things he con do for them, in the position.

Increase their UN Fees.....send their soldier under UN mandates to be peace keeping forces around the globe....solve the middle east crisis.....solve their economic problems with UN bailout....Spain was just devalue to junk bond status.....the world needs him too.grin

ttom500: But that is also the question. Were do you send a former President?
He is not going into hiding. So where better than the UN?

Well a few things come to mind, and this 1st one is the lightest on my list for him:

Garbage Collector

No need to describe this one. Although wages vary significantly based upon experience and responsibilities, the BLS lists median hourly earnings at just $13.93. Garbage collectors also rank as the sixth deadliest job in America, with a fatality rate of 41.8 per 100,000 jobs.

JMO

We might get a faster fade if he takes the UN Secretary General position....just something to think about......how many know the name of the Sec't General of the UN? Or the first UN Sec't General.
It is a considered by many a dead end political position.

Ban Ki-Moon is the current one. A couple of memorable names spring to mind like Boutros Boutros Gali and Kofi Annan.

Yes V, you would know!! )) But the point is most of the world does not.

But when President Obama took the position, they would all know the role again. His mere presence would be a shining light in the dark halls of the United Nations.

Our President Obama? Raising havoc in the international community?
Are we talking about the same man, Conrad? This is the man that even before he was elected, he was withdrawing.

The is the man that did the infamous apology tour. He is the man that did nothing to get the Nobel Peace award.

He is perfect for the Sec't General role. Non confrontational and wants to get along with just everybody......

But then again, I can see your point. Pres. Obama in the Sec't General role....might get the UN to really sanction Iran. From the
body, not the Security Council.... might get the a real two national solution resolution for Israel and Palestine.....might make in road on global nuclear weapons development.....might get real global environmental change....

Conrad, they are already there. Placing President Obama in the group...with the old sink or swim adage in mind....means he is either going to be leader of the pack or consumed by the by the
pack. I rather him be leader of the UN pack.......

Look what is happening. Pres. A is asking to come to a UN Nuclear summit in NYC. So we give him a Visa, he comes to the US and does a rant and bash job on the US and Israel.

At least with President Obama siting on the podium with him....as the rant bash job is done....if eventually Pres. O stands and gags on Pres. A words....at least every in the General body/security council/conference will know were the US stands on them.

Think about it, Conrad, Everytime the UN meets in session these guys can come and represent their countries. Head of State are allowed to replace thier countries UN Amabassador, pretty sure. Is why Kurschev was able to his shoe pounding thingee.

So Chavez, Khaddfi or Pres A. wants to address the body with a rant or bash.......Pres. O can be there to quiet things down and to keep the UN body in a even keel. To modify radical positions that it might take.
