Ok, please tell me your opinon.

You are having coffee with a friend when she receives a text message from a guy she has met. Because you are talking she texts him to say sorry can't chat at the moment. He then says he really wants to talk.

Do you......

When I’m with someone, male or female, my mobile usually is turned off. Exceptions are when I forgot to do that or when I keep it on because I’m waiting for a very important for me call that I cannot ignore.

I’m a believer in paying all the attention to the person(s) I am with at a given moment. Hence, if my mobile is off, then I wouldn’t know that someone called me until I’ve turned it on. If my mobile is on, I’ll accept the call and try to make it as short as possible – no lyrics, only facts. So no, I won’t text nor will I chat with a boyfriend while I’m having coffee with a friend. After all, he is an adult person and supposed to manage on his own for a couple of hours or so.

I agree with Tule in what she says.

Trying to talk to someone who is texting on their mobile...? ...I get up and go away!

Thanks, I don't mind a text here and there, depending on who it is but when you tell someone you can't talk for them to then they say well I want to talk it is just plain rude and puts the person being asked in an awkward position.

I agree its rude to interupt a convo for a text. I would simply say I will call you back soon and turn my phone off. hug

If he really wants to talk, he will really have to wait...... If I'm with someone I consider it rude to cut a conversation short because of a phone call. JMO

What you mean 'he'll have to wait'...Just maybe he's stubbed his big toe...cut himself shaving....'He'll just have to wait'..What, so it's like this..Fit nubiles get together over handbags or whatever..your phone rings, you look at the number and discover it's your man thingy and you lot think..'Back burner'..and continue talking about 'Hello mag and drinking tea..stuffing your faces with cream buns and talking about calories....'

How close to the truth is that...(I personally reckon very..from something I seen a wee while back)

No, no, no Phoenix....he texts not rings and when you say you can't talk right now he texts back and say but I want to talk to you now so you then ring him and really all he wants to do is chat. If it was an emergency like he'd stubbed his big toe or cut himself shaving he'd have rung in the first place! laugh

Few years ago I’d do the same, but somehow I’ve lost the minimalism of my youth… something with the local air? It’s regarded as uncouth here to show impatience – Swedes are Scandinavian Japanese. Or Cherokee? (Not sure in which culture it’s unbecoming to demonstrate your feelings.)

Life taught me to have plan B. Or a book/newspaper/magazine. While your friend is busy with texting, you can enjoy your coffee and read… Or make eyes to this handsome man at the next table… smitten Or make faces at his ugly wife…tongue Or, just think!, write your oun book! writing (After all some writers wrote their books in café.) If anything else, it’s unpractical to leave something you’ve paid for.

It depends on the content of his text reply.. Generally, I would contact them after the time with my friend and my phone is normally on vibrate.. grin However, there are exceptions, in that, in the first message, they are aware you are meeting someone but seeing if you are free anyway and so for the second they may be able to clarify the situation in that the time they were to meet/talk to you has been altered due to outside forces.. i.e. family bereavement; called up by forces/police; work commitment, etc.. wine

Oh yes ...... "going away" does not have to mean physically removing ones body from the area ........ I fully agree ... making eyes, observing the scenery, fantasising about the book writing ....... yeah ..... All depends on the moment. BUT .... in the middle of a serious discussion with a friend and they prefer to sit writing texts on their mobile .... well ... okay, I`ve also done that if its a quick text .. but I won`t sit through a long drawn out mobile phone chat..... unless of course I have the spare time to actually waste.

To not demonstrate ones feelings .....oh okay, if one wishes to live in a false sort of La-La-Land scenario and fume inside and pay for medication for ulcers, then by all means, keep looking Kool.drinking

Oh, never happened to me – if I fume I do it only outwards… In my private life, I’ll never suffer situations that I regard as offending without objecting. But in this case… no, it’s seems too little to react. After all, you’ve scheduled a couple of hours for that cup of coffee, and it’d waste of time only if you allow yourself to think that. Your “friend” offends you straight to your face by ignoring you. (Are we really friends with that person?) No, I wouldn’t go off of this, even less inside. All that happened is that the person showed how less she/he values your company, thank you for being honest… But of course, there’s no point to maintain such an acquaintance.

I'm with you on this one, Oh Great Commando. I hate mobiles and although I got forced to have one for work, in revenge I only turn it on for five minutes twice a day to see who is nagging... just in case it's ya know... 20th Century Fox!
