ooby_dooby: Which version is your favorite. Which version scared you the most?
i always think the original versions were best of any movie.
Of course the first one scared me because I was little when I saw it. Wanted to cry for Kong in the 1976 version. Didn't see the last one...2 was enough.

How about Wickerman original and remake?
Oh ladyfingers 'My mother wanted to shoot the TV when sje watched wicker man
The 1976 wasn't bad except Jessica Lange is a crap actress... as wooden as a tree!
The VERY BEST has to be the original, of course... who can resist being reduced to tears as (typically) the humans slay him, poor thing!
Good thread, Ooby....
I remember asking my dad about the original with Fay Wray. When it was firsy released, it seemed very modern and technical with the animation and the biplanes flying around the Empire States Building although it seems silly to us now. Talkies were fairly new. Colour Film was very rare. Planes were only starting to be taken seriously. No tv. No video. You had to go to the pics.
We've come a long way in many areas in a very short period of time.

You talk like it was back in the dark ages!
Also, you forgot one thing about the oldies...they had to know how to act... No special effects, no one to fill in for your singing, etc, Yes, they were corny but a lot of good actors came from from back then. Probably none that you've heard of.
The first two were good with my favorite being the 1976 version. I didn't like the last one. It was too phony and unbelievable with all the computerized effects they used.

The 76 version was ok I thought Jeff Bridges would have been more attractive to Kong than Jessica Lange being as he looked more like an Ape with all that hair. The 76 Kong looked like a man in a monkey suit.
The latest version was just on TV here which is why I made this poll. All I watched was the "seduction" scene on the mountain top which was as bad as the 76 version with her yelling at him and him in typical male fashion throwing a hissy fit and smashing things and sulking instead of squashing her like a toad the way John Goodman did in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou". I felt the facial expressions on Kong were a bit too human like but his body and movements were spot on for a big silverback gorilla.
Years ago I went to the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan and there was a huge male gorilla sitting in cage made of unbeakable glass. For several minutes I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine and I felt like I could read his thoughts. The feeling I got was that he knew he was in captivity and was resigned to it as escape was out of the question. I tried conveying to him that I would help him if I could but it wasn't possible. Somehow I think he knew what I was thinking too. At least it makes me feel good to think he did.

Thanks for the compliment.
The best version of "contact" with the mighty King Kong? It was just what you wrote

Now that's a wrap

Thank you, I take that as a very sincere compliment. I like your new pic. I reminds me of an old saying. "If they're old enough to sit at ON the table, they're old enough to eat."
re; the Whicker man... The original....hands down... seldom do remakes top the original... i would say David Cronenburgs "the fly" was better than its original... and for Titanic fans, check out "A night to remember", far superior to the James Cameron film... Lard...
