I don't ski, but I usually vacation somewhere snowy for a week each year.. it's best in a cabin with a hot tub on the deck!! I grew up in a beach community, so I love that any time of year, warm or cool. Camping in the mountains or a forested area or the beach-- all delightful to me! No camping in the snow though:scold.... I have limits!
opentuit: Haven't seen either one of those since I've been here.... suspect that may change in about three and a half weeks though....
Oooer, what happens in three and a half weeks?
And the chaps does not surprise me, the lack of cowboy hats is quite shocking, from your description of the place I figured a cowboy hat would be required head gear there

It's a small city with a lot of trees.
But I will say this compared to San Diego and Vegas (and San Francisco and New York City and Dallas and a lot of other place!)-- fashion doesn't seem to rank highly at all here. Sort of... nondescript. Definitely nothing so bold as a cowboy hat!LOL Not that fashion is my life or anything ...but since I do live in a city, I think it would be nice to get dressed up to go out periodically.
Oh wait-- maybe they get all dressed up for church!! That would explain why I never see it.

I have never in my entire life ever thought of a cowboy hat as "fashion" , I find myself really far away from being "fashionable" but good god, that place sounds like hell, least you have the countryside

Well, in Vegas a cowboy hat counts.... there's quite a bit of Halloween injected into the Vegas sense of fashion, so you really have to keep an open mind! Incidentally, Vegas is an absolutely GREAT place to be for Halloween weekend!!!

Ahhhh! Going to Vegas for Halloween?
Sorry, did not catch that. Well, go to west Hollywood if you want to see chaps everyday and no cowboy hats
opentuit: No, silly I'm not going to Vegas-- I lived there the last three years! I was just saying that it's the best place to be for Halloween. I'm going to be here for Halloween.
They do have Halloween here..................right?........
I dunno, they may find it too evil with spirits and ghouls. My grandma on my mother's side quit attending a church since it had set up a get together with the kids to bob for apples and play kid games in costume for Halloween. I would imagine a place like you have described there will be others like that the see the holiday as blasphemous
