I never feel comfortable about a man paying for me on a first date, so like to go halfs no misunderstandings then

It really does not matter. A Man should cover the bill (+ good tip) if He invited a Lady, and regardless of how the date went. And if He is cool and have manners, He should cover the bill even if She has invited Him.
In my opinion the first date would not call for a dinner. Getting to know one another while having few drinks, and perhaps a walk, would be more important and appropriate for both of them.

Can't talk during a movie and eating isn't very comfortable for a fist date. I prefer to just meet and chat, and get to know the person without the stress of money and what it may or may not imply.

If I was back in the U.S. if I invite I pay. However, out here in Germany some women feel insulted if you pay for their meal. At least that has been my observation.

Not much of a problem
a date that is a Long Distance meet can be another thing...and quite expensive over weeks, or months
I did this and i paid, for the Flights and More, and then a return, I paid again, whats wrong with this?????
well in the end it didnt work out, and It didnt cost her much of anything, so when it didnt work, she had no investment...
In this situation,MY LESSON, I feel that BOTH should pay BECAUSE, if only one is contributing to the relationship, you have nothing... tho if Both contribute it shows they both are giving to the relationship, if its free to one, their is no offering of the other, seems to be a one sided relationship...
But when BOTH contribute, it shows their is sincere efforts on both sides...

What I am refering to above, is LONG DISTANT LONG TERM RELATIONSHIPS.....
I guess if only one makes effort in a relationship, it wont go very far...
