CapeDoctor: What do you people think about them? Are they good or bad - and is it ever worth "staying friends" with an ex???
Nope. Best thing with an ex is to have as little contact as possible. In most circumstances anyway.
Platonic relationships - depends. 95% of the time they're false. Women are all for friendships and some guys will stick it out in "friend zone" for a while until they realise that once you've moved into friend zone - it's impossible to get out.
Then I suppose there is the other 5% where a platonic relationship is possible for whatever reason, maybe it's a childhood friend.
I have about 10 male friends that I could pretty much talk about anything to whereas I only have 2 female friends in the same catagory.
Mmmmmmm......i dont think it's bad??? but i think the problem arise when you have a jealous bf/gf then it would be bad.lol He'll thinks he's a rivalry. so i would say it depends
Irishminx: Half of my friends are male, I meet them for dinner/lunch or a drink. I am friendly with my two long term ex's, in fact, the latter is my best friend.
Friendships are a gift, therefore, I cherish them whether they are with my female or male friends.
And yes I have a plantonic relationship with my male friends. Maybe it depends on your maturity?!?
Minx!
I have a friend who I went out with for a couple of months last year...he has recently emailed me again and asked if we can meet up again just as friends, going to cinema, meals out together etc, etc...do you think a platonic friendship can work after we had a bit of a thing going on......Im not interested in going back to the way it was cos I was the one who finished it..... he is a nice guy and I enjoyed his company but do you think the 'just friends' thing could work?? Im not sure it can....what do you think????

Maybe the question is what do you want him as, a platonic friend or more ?. If you are clear about what you want, then you have your answer.

I am sure I only want him as a platonic friend but not sure he would see it that way so may be easier just to let thing lie for the moment

Its worth it to stay friends if you've resolved why the relationship went wrong and can agree to differ- i've stayed just friends with most of my exes with one exception - my ex husband!!!

It is possible to have a platonic relationship after a long term relationship. These have been a part of your life afterall so why not remain friends if both parties are agreeable to it.
I just sometimes find it interesting that most women would view having a platonic relationship as being "something special", or maybe even an "achievement" of some sort. On the other hand most men tend to view platonic relationships as a lousy consolation effort by women at softening the blow of rejection...

I know thats why Im unsure about them in the first place.....we are then both in a place we dont really want to be so whats the point?? Platonic friendships are possible in my eyes if you have never been anything more than 'just friends' but when youve been in a full blown relationship with someone then I just dont think it can work as 'real' friends. You can be friendly and civil to one another but thats another thing entirely from a full and enriching friendship in my view...
Good point but I just think there is a difference between remaining on speaking terms with an ex partner and being true friends, but thats just my experience......
