Local Hero and The Sound of Music are both great choices, as would be The Wizard of Oz if it were listed. But the finest IMHO would be either Angelo Badalamenti's soundtrack for the TV series Twin Peaks, or Magnet's soundtrack to The Wicker Man (1972).

When I was in middle school I thought Conan The Barbarian was the most brilliant movie ever and wanted to grow up to be a barbarian. I did, but not the kind of barbarian Conan is. I collected Frazetta crap for years, and read all the comic books and novels I could get.
When it came back on tv recently, I watched it over and over and still think that movie was bloody brilliant.
