Water is a natural resource that has always been free here in Ireland. Should people submit to the tax of water like they did to the bin tax and let future generations pay the burden for our complicity in a major issue here that has not even been properly debated among the government or the people who will be forced to pay for water in a country that has a lake river or stream in every county across the land where water is abundant and the population is tiny compared to other countries that have similar water taxes to help to pay for the running and restoration of the water facilities. Remember this tax is a permanent condition that will be inflicted on future generations with the prices only to rise in the future, should our children and grandchildren and even our unborn future generations have such a drastic tax enforced on them over the misuse of power being enforced on us and our land by the draconian government in power today without voicing our concerns. Please vote and be heard. None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

snowlynx: Wrong! Water was never free, it has to be paid for somehow, only question is how.

Through all the other taxes we pay. Was it not to be covered with the property tax we are forced to pay?

well..

all other european countries pay water rates, so why not ireland???

all the water reservoir/cleaning/filtering and processing to get city water drinkable does cost...

my issue is why are they only introducing charges now? obviously it has already been paid for like the above gentleman states as they have been providing the service already for how long?? the government is just looking for more money so is just making up a reason.

I must say they should just ask for flat water rates, like in the uk and not introduce water meters! thats greedy, trying to tax per litre used, in the uk they are not allowed to force people to get water meters, only new build properties and people who CHOOSE to get water meters installed!

One thing i learned quickly in Ireland.: TAX TAX And MORE TAX :-P

We are expecting torrents of rain over the weekend,,I read in the paper yesterday our local one that it is going to cost 176 euro per person in household and roughly 156 euro each for every adult in household,

I can't remember exact figures,

I got a letter asking me for my bank details ,PPSI number for water company ,I didnt fill it in nor am I going to ..I haven't been installed my water metre as yet in my neibourhood,

It was announced that if we don't pay up we will be expected to just have a trickle of water coming from tap as the pressure will be extremely low if even nonexistent,

One lady that got voted into local corporation recently from her party people before profit' has vowed she will not be paying it .

Looks like I will be as no where elase to get my water with 3 adults in my home at the moment.
Yes water has been paid through vat ,motor tax, taxes ,

It's criminal if you ask me ,,as well as their house charges, really pissed off with Ireland today.

I agree that would work in theory but you know what will happen and what always happens in these situations is everybody gives out like hell and says they wont pay but what happens they eventually end up paying anywaysad flower

WadeWilson: yip and if yourself employed you wont get a tax clearance cert unless you pay it
or if you want to sell house or if you die it comes out of your estate.

i imagine this is the route it will go down

.yes that's exactly where the path is leading to, No one gets away with one cent at the end of the day they have us from every angle ,they know their homework it's done already,

Yea yea I'm not paying property tax. Then when a person dies ,next of kin will get the letters to say we own a percentage of your house, if next of kin dosnt pay it,next thing the banks have staked claim to the house.

Yea bank,government win again,applause .

I love this blessed country ,,we are lucky we don't have bombs dropping on us,

Now it's like a long funeral for people trying to make ends meet,

I live in the country have water meter so been paying for water for years not a big deal. big question is why do people living in larger town and cities expect to get water for free. when the reality is a lot of houses already pay or had to drill wells because water would not be provided.uh oh probably get the head eaten of me for this replydunno

Some people in the country have community wells and some have personal ..some are connected to water the govt connected, not all are paying or will pay for water.

People outside of cities also pay less for property than in say Dublin ...

The price of property in dublin lets use for an example is often double or more that of a modest 3 bed on a couple acres somewhere less populated of course means the bigger stamp duty tax paid to govt when bought..yes we have hospitals close...and noise..and no bogs to get our own fuel and one road of 100 houses here pay 100 times the tax one dude with his 15 sheep does in the country on the same size piece of land..so you get what you live with.

So this added stamp duty for their home...(and property tax)You could say should cover the installation of water and waste services cos people in cities have no options or control over where they get theirs from either.

see no head eaten off ya.

i dont normally post anything here but for this subject i feel that i must, what irish people have to understand is that we are already paying for water since 1996,the government took all the money from the local household charge and the property tax and gave it over to form the now irish water company, with the 80 millon alone that this company paid out to consultants would have been more than enough to fix the 46% leaks throughout the country, not one cent of these taxes that were collected have been handed over to the councils which what the money was supposed to be collected for in the first place.irish water is a private limited company by shares, they cannot force you into a contract, they also cannot deduct payment at source, the whole thing is a huge scam.the governments have lied to our people for years and now they have pushed us too far and the people in this country have woken up,there is a large protest plannec doe dublin on october 11th at the garden of rememberance and another in cork city october 25th,its now up to you to decide if you want to stand up and fight for your rights as an irish citzen, please also remember other countries will say ah we pay then ye must pay,but what ye must not forget is that we pay the higest taxes in europe, end of

We already pay for water via our car tax (believe it or not) and through Property tax. This will be the 3rd tax FOR THE SAME THING that we will be paying for............only in Ireland!! Would you, in your country, pay 3 times for the same thing????

There is a massive march, on the 11th Oct from 2pm in the Garden of Remembrance Dublin, to protest against these charges. People are booking out coach companies to travel from every corner of Ireland for it.
Unfortunately there is a News blackout in Ireland on the issue, as the Private water company installing the water meters is run by the same guy who runs the Irish media - radio stations, news stations and newspapers - Denis O Brien.
