This has probably been dealt with on here before. I am wondering what CS member's feelings are at this stage.
I ask this today because of the further news that Elizabeth Arnett, the Head of Communications at Irish Water, is in the news due to her work with former employers RPS engineering. RPS engineering was criticised in a judge's statement along with Dublin City Council over misuse of public funds - more corruption - in relation to Council waste reports. This case reached a conclusion today when Dublin City Council decided to a case against this judgement to the Supreme Court. It is a case which has cost a further 2.2 million in taxpayers money.
John Tierney has since been appointed to Irish Water. Elizebeth Arnett also. And JerryGrant, a former managing director of RPS engineering, is Irish Water's head od Asset management.

As an interesting aside...The EU commission found that the contracts between DCC and RPS contravened EU law.
When does it all stop?

It all stops when the this government is brought down..how anybody could vote for that smug arrogant enda kenny and his crew is beyond me..I don't intend paying..I haven't registered yet...The people who don't pay have a bit of time to play with..The deadline is sometime early 2017 when it'll be 500 odd quid if you haven't paid anything from the beginning but by then I think irish water will be well and truely wound up..If people stick together then it'll be defeated..Personally I'm not against the idea of paying for water but the way this was done was all wrong..the corruption..the payrises for Irish water staff..the fact they've almost spent a billion already and I doubt a single leak has been fixed..Its been propped up by the household charge and car tax..Its a disaster and will probably take a few hundred million to wind up..what a waste of moneysad flower

Only something like 45% of people have paid, IW was a mess from day one, and a waste of taxpayers money.

Water charges in principal I agree with but I won't pay to IW.

I watched Roisin Shortall the other night on tv and she said something like not a penny has been spent on fixing leaks yet.

I see we have hugely expensive staff getting bonuses at irish water yet it has spent millions on consultancy fees. If the staff are that good why do we need to spend millions on consultants?

More jobs for the boys and cronies while poor people struggle. More taxation which takes no account of income, net income or ability to pay. It is regressive taxation.

Another quango with more interest in paying huge money to cronies than doing anything and we are all funding it after paying taxes for years and all our taxes wasted by previous governments who did nothing to fix the leaks while telling us how wealthy we all were and how great they were.

It won't stop as the monied people keep voting for the two business parties and the so called left party will go along with anything to get their pensions and get their cronies in to jobs too.

People need to vote real left, not gin and tonic and champagne socialist left.

Not that idiot Paul Murphy I assume anyway.

Fair point. I don't know who the real left are any more or if we even have one.

A lot of people who are supposedly lefties are just namby pamby Politically Correct middle class people who care more about all the oppressed peoples of the world than working class Irish people.

The rich get richer in Ireland while the poor get poorer despite a supposedly left party sharing power.

You should also wonder where your income tax, vat and million and one other indirect taxes are going.

It's a con telling us we need to pay for anything we want or need when the rest of our taxes go to what we don't want or need - politicians and their expenses and all the grants given away to businesses and god knows who or what.

If IW stays, I'm sure the bills are only going to increase. Right now, I'd rather pay the €40 odd every 3 months than get a massive bill this time next year because I haven't paid.

i personally think democracy is in serious trouble here. on 5th of July the people of greece basically voted against further austerity measures. im glad their politicians listened! we re in trouble here folks. i would highly recommend the work of american economists ellen brown(post 15). shes the best ive found so far with explaining whats going on with all this. its very worrying stuff underneath it all but thankfully ellen brown includes possible solutions to it all in her work.

There are no penalties for non payment until early 2017 so dont worry about it until then..it'll be 500 quid you'll have to pay and by then IW will be on the scrap heap..have some backbone..too many Irish people let themselves be steamrolled thumbs up

im actually slowly coming to the conclusion that our whole political system is now defunct. it no longer truly serves us and you have to ask if it ever really did. i have a funny feeling, no matter who you put in there now, they cant change the system. this is deeply worrying if correct

but we do know what will happen up until 2017..IW themselves have said there are no penalties for non payment until then..if IW still exists by then all you'll be paying is arrears and if you still refuse to pay after the deadline date in 2017 then penalties kick in there afterconversing

The problem is that the money expenses pension money from being part of lots of committees and going on to boards and quangos when they leave means that they stop wanting to change things and want things to stay the way they are as they are making so much money out of it.

We need less money for politicians so they have to do the right thing to get reelected. They get so much money now it doesn't make any difference whether they get reelected; they are made for life by hanging in there for 5 years.

We also have so many people with an interest in voting for the two business parties while the poor don't vote or spread their vote over so many independents and small parties.

If you want to see what a disaster IW has been just read the EUROSTAT report, it didn't just fail on the fact people aren't paying, it failed on its entire set up and structures.

No one has to actually pay 1 cent until the 4th bill, there are no sanctions whatsoever against you until then, and even after that, they will have to let the bill run up to €500.00 before they can even begin proceedings against you to deduct from your income, and to do that takes at least 2 court appearances, as only the courts have the power to impose such penalties against you, not IW. All all that can't happen until 2017 when you reach the €500.00!!

If IW does fail, and I sincerely hope it does, all those who have paid up haven't a hope in hell of getting their money back you will then have paid a 3rd time (at least a 3rd time) for absolutely nothing.

An end to Quangos??? An end to cronyism?? An end to stroke politics???

No ENDA to any of them!!!!!!

im hearing what your saying but i would highly recommend checking out the links i posted earlier. i do think its a much bigger problem than what your saying but that does play a part. ellen brown would explain it far better than i ever could. i whole thing is actually down to the fact, we stupidly handed our monetary control over to private financial institutions and they have no interest in serving us at all. in fact their interests is to make as much money, as quickly as possible on the backs of us all. our politicians are only assisting them in doing so by virtue of fear as far as i can see. ellen brown explains it better
