Ulimaroa: Lately I noticed there are is an inflation in profile pictures featuring gentlemen holding up fish! What do we women think? What do men say?
I’ve seen one who posed holding a crocodile’s upper jaw. Don’t know though whether the animal was stuffed or alive. If it was a live crocodile then what the man was doing was cruelty to animals. If it was a dead crocodile then the man is just a cheap poser.
But I like fish, and I like fishing, and I’d prefer a fisher to a TV-football-watcher any given moment.
My guess: Most of men rarely take pics of themselves, even rarer - themselves alone, not hanging on friends' arms in a pub or posing as a wedding witness.. Catching big fish is one of those rare occasions they do. Plus they look happy and proud on those pics. Plus they want to impress you with the achievement :) And with the suggestion that they practise sport ;)
Well, I could think of a few things that a man could do with his buttocks I expect. Now, let me see. Man + buttocks = ? Hmmmm Let's look at it from a different angle. Head at it frontways on... Man + ooops! Nope. Er... man... buttocks... er...
No, you're right. I guess a man's buttocks do belong on the bonnet of his car!
I don't fish so my profile pics won't show me doing that for sure.
As an aside, are profile pics of somebody performing one of his/her hobbies appealing to you? I find them interesting, but when I posted one of mine as my main pic while practicing martial arts there wasn't much feedback.
So what are your thoughts in general about that? :)

I don't think people generally give feedback as a rule, though some of us do comment at times, but it's usually about a photo of someone we already know on here, and with whom we might be talking on a forum thread at the time.
Did you remove the martial arts photo? If so, because of no 'feedback'?
I'll try to clear up why some blokes have fishy photo's,by the way I love the smell of tuna..it reminds me of....Sorry I digress..
Fishy photo's..it's because they're christians and have taken J C's word literally when he said "Come here and follow me and I'll make you fishers of men"...

No the martial arts photo is still there, but just not my main photo anymore. I changed with a more 'standard' one, he he.
I'll try to clear this up...The reason why some blokes have fishy (talking of fish...I love the smell of tuna fish) type photo's is because they've taken JC's word literally when he said' "Come follow me and I'll make you fishers of men..."
But even if the car is his… so what? A way to demonstrate their wealth? Perhaps… (and then this endless cry about being hitting only by scammers).
Though on the other side, it can be an attempt to show that yes, he can indeed make some money and support a family. And then it’s of the same nature as pictures with fish.
(I wonder what information female photos contain… cats, and décolleté, and short skirts… No, I dare not to ask that question…)
kidatheart: I've had an interest in cars and mechanical things just as long as any interest in girls, so that's why I have one pic of me standing next to a car. I no longer own the car, but it's also the most recent pic of me that I have.
...
I think some people may be reading too much into photos on this site.
Well… I agree, it may be the case that people make more of a photo than there is to make…
And on the other side, in the choice of a photo there is some information about the person, isn’t it? Though I’m aware that I never can read this information right, not as the “owner” meant it, I nonetheless put some meaning into it… just a human nature. We like to “explain” things as it suits us instead of accepting that there are things that we don’t understand.
I often ask what people meant with this and that (just to avoid guessing and to fill white spots)… but I seldom get answers… but that’s another story.

A man pictured with a fish is somethng very natural, sometimes it has to do with someone who loves the sport and outdoors, sometimes it has to do with someone who rarely practises the sport but is proud of his catch. I think it's as good a picture as someone sitting by their car that they're proud of, as someone sitting by a roll of hay out in the country, as someone climbing walls, as someone climbing a ladder giving us a rear view of themselves. Pictures are pictures, they show one's interest, they show one's taste, they show one's physique.

First coming to France, I considered to get a fish tatoo on my 'bits' since these catholic woman were not supposed to eat meat on a Friday

I hope they don't eat what you've got! Catholic women have stopped their abstention from eating meat on Friday about 50 years ago. So don't hesitate on a Friday to get the job done, and they are free to drink anything even in days of abstinence
I saw a pic of a guy yesterday- with a headless fish.
Sorry but
Don't they know you can use the head to make bisque? if you are going to kill a fish, damn well cook it and use as much of it as you can! I don't agree with killing things for 'sport'.
I don't see fishing as sport- sitting on your butt all day dangling something in the water while drinking beer? Where's the sport in that?
Hate to think what my profile photo might be telling people- guess I might change it to a photo of me in my whites covered from head to toe LOL
