RE: Should the man always pay?

Just wondering how many people might know this: In the state of California (and I presume some other states) the higher earner pays spousal or "palimony" support. Both Cher and Elizabeth Taylor supported ex-husbands after the divorces, so do many other high earning California women. A little side comment regarding the whole "person equality" issue. Some time ago Judge Judy heard a case regarding a couple suing a business. During the hearing, it was revealed that the husband was a full-time stay-at-home homemaker. Judith was extremely nasty to him, ridiculing him in from of the audience, which could be heard snickering. I've been annoyed by this particular behavior of hers--the wife was a high-earner; the couple embraced this lifestyle, the wife actually paid her husband a professional salary. You know, it worked for them, what is it to anyone to rankle another for the choices they make, especially if it has nothing to do with them?

btw--I really like the "Dutch Treat" idea of a first date. It's a very sage way to go about it.

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

This is actually true, but it is not wise, on the average.

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

Overall it is not a great idea for the employees. (It's tremendously lucrative for the clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation centers: it cuts out several full-time positions, saving close to, or exceeding, $200,000.00 annually.) That's quite a bonus for them. professor

RE: Do you have any regrets

Plenty such as trying to court a young lady who lived near (and still does) where I live.sigh

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

I’d be more concerned with the safety conditions, rather than the hours .
Hundreds, if not thousands of migrant workers killed as a result of bad health & safety standards.

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

Studies show that out of an 8 hour shift, only 6 are productive. The last two are slow and sloppy. 12 is not feasible for most, especially really young or old. The worst is night shift and the swing. Companies think workers like having days or nights free. All it does is mess with the circadian rhythm.
I worked five years nights, Friday night and Saturday night. I got double time. Started out up all Friday, half of Saturday and most of Sunday. By the end, up Friday, sleep half or more Saturday and crash Sunday to Monday.
They are now doing 4 day weeks in some areas. And finding out, less turnover and happier workers and equal or better performance.

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

would depend on the job. some jobs working 12 is not a big deal. but some it would be.

I work with people like that...Makes it harder on those who have good work ethics.

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

Most RNs in a hospital setting work 12 hour shifts...3 days a week...

Not sure if that is good or bad.

RE: Do you think horoscopes are accurate?

Personal horoscopes done by a good astrologer can be extremely accurate.
It is very, very far from what you read in newspapers and internet.

RE: Should the man always pay?

I think I would not handle it that way uh oh If there is one thing I have learned in life money is just money dunno sometimes lessons in life have a price. In this case might be the price of meal. I can't speak for all women but when I see the ticket come I am reaching for purse and getting my money out. If you have to ask you know already it is wrong. If you felt that strongly you might want to discuss it ahead of time. Usually the man will say to me I will get this. I say no no I got my part. Then if I see he is agitated (some men see their manhood in paying that bill) I will just let go and let them. I have also ended up being in such a hurry I have paid the whole bill just to get away from them. I could write a book on dating and have only had a few dates laugh I would dedicate a whole chapter titled over sharing is not caring wine Dating is so difficult and so stressful. When you agree to a date you usually think this person is someone I would like to get to know. It is like a box of crackerjacks. blues sometimes there is more nuts than sweetness. wine

Gee and I wonder why I don't date often laugh

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

From what I see you are correct. In many jobs working excessive overtime can increase accidents. If not on the job it is still the cause of many at home accidents etc. You are to tired you can't think straight blues In my area it is becoming the norm to work mandatory overtime. I don't want some one operating on me, cutting my hair etc when they are tired and run down. I know that jobs with heavy equipment can also be dangerous. Not just that a person will start to suffer emotionally and spiritually. They will lose track of what a happy emotionally secure enviroment can feel like. They lose themselfs. For little pay? For lots of pay? The outcome is the same. Your prioirities become skewed. There is a loss of lifes balance. Sadly most of us have to work to put food on the table. I could go on and on about todays work enviroments but I will just go sit in the corner and be quiet now. wave

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

"We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt."

"And you try and tell the young people of today that ... they won't believe you."

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

Learn to work smart not hard.

My philosophy is to give them 6 hours of a 8 hours per day job. thumbs up

RE: Are you for or against people working 12 hours a day or more?

I personally believe that it is downright dangerous (in many fields) to work twelve hour days continuously. Research in the 1990's clearly indicated that workers who must use multiple skills (medicine, education, architecture, etc...) and rapidly, at that, have considerable diminished cognitive and coping abilities after the sixth or seventh hour. Of course there are employees who are fully functional; I've known several people who have very healthy drives, all around, with very little rest or sleep. But that is not the average....jmo
