Leprechauns Game Tips
The screenshots below show an example of how a game was played and won. To show you the strategies used.
1. This is how the game looks at first, in our example:
2. Start out the game by putting x's by all the the shamrocks marked "0"...(because they can't have leprechauns next to them) :
3. The shamrock marked "2" at the bottom must have 2 leprechauns next to it.
There are only 2 places to put leprechauns next to that shamrock, so it is obvious where to put the leprechauns.
4. The next shamrock is marked "3".
There are only 3 possible places next to it where we can put leprechauns, so we put them there.
NOTE: we cannot put a leprechaun to the right of it, because it is already turned green by another leprechaun... (it cannot be on the same column as another leprechaun.)
5. The shamrock in the upper left corner is marked "2". There are only 2 places to put leprechauns, so it is obvious where to put them.
(If there are only 2 places to put leprechauns and we have 2 leprechauns to put, then it is obvious)
6. The shamrock marked "2" on the middle of the left edge, has only 2 places to put leprechauns, so it is obvious where to put them.
7. The shamrock marked "1", only has 1 place to put a leprechaun, so we put it there.
8. The shamrock marked "1", only has 1 place to put a leprechaun, so we put it there.
9. The shamrock marked "1", only has 1 place to put a leprechaun, so we put it there.
10. The shamrock marked "1", only has 1 place to put a leprechaun, so we put it there.
11. At this point we have 1 shamrock left, and we don't know where to put the leprechaun. I've chosen
a spot for the leprechaun that won't effect anything.
12. Now we just need to fill in some leprechauns in order to turn the rest of the board green,
making sure that they are not on the same row or column.
13. Here is the completed puzzle and the game is won
- All squares on the board have been turned green by the leprechauns
- No 2 leprechauns are on the same row or column unless they are separated by a shamrock
- If a shamrock has a number by it, then the number of leprechauns next to it (vertically or horizontally), matches that number
