I believe that people in the cities are just too busy chasing the almighty dollar and keeping up with the Jones to care much about what goes on outside of their own lives. Social engineering has had a lot to do with this. Women working outside of the home and children with playdates and soccer practice, ballet class etc. Who has the time? Now that I live in a tiny Southern community it is very different. People do care and are very helpful. Very nice but sometimes can be stifling.
