BTW an Arc Welding filter will allow you to look directly at the Sun with no worries. I'm not sure if gas welding goggles are dark enough, I'll have to check that out when the Sun is out.
It's strange but as a kid I've looked at the Sun several times with no ill effect to my eyesight. I've always had 20/20 vision. Now I have 20/0

RE: Rare Mercury Dash on Monday

oops, I thought today was Monday.doh

RE: Rare Mercury Dash on Monday

I guess I missed it. Looking at the Sun with binoculars sounds like a recipe for instant blindness.

RE: "Payday Loans",...and ways to take advantage of po folks...

When I was in the 2nd grade, a couple of men came from a bank at the invite of either the teacher or Principal or school board, or maybe it was the banks idea, which is my opinion looking back as a skeptic, to talk to the class about money management. They even had all the kids, myself included, open up a savings acct. I remember it paid 2% interest and we all got a passbook. I wonder if that would be allowed today? It seemed like a good idea to start kids off as savers instead wasters. Of course 2nd graders don't have much money especially to put in the bank instead of buying candy.

RE: "Payday Loans",...and ways to take advantage of po folks...

These predatory lenders sometimes come out holding the smelly end of the stick. I had a couple staying with me a few years ago who were the epitome of low lifes. They were splitting up, he moved in with his parents and she went to FL to stay with her kids. Before she left she took out a Title loan. I started getting letters from the lender looking for payment. I went to the Title loan store and told the man he could use that title as wall paper because the car was probably already melted down.

RE: Enjoying The Stable And Low Gas Prices In The USA? You Can Thank President Trump!

What a load of Horse manure. Here is a 3 year chart of pump prices of gas in my area. As you can plainly see in Nov of 2016 gas was $2.01 per Gal and climbed to $2.79 in May of 2018, then it crashed to $1.92 in Jan of 2019, by April it was back up to $2.61, now it around $2.22.
Trump has absolutely nothing to do with the pump price of gas.

RE: Getty Fire

Kudo's for your effort oldie, I have to yield to your empirical experience and observations of locked down turbine blades in high wind conditions. Maybe I gave the designers more credit than they deserve. It would seem to me to be almost a no brainer to employ aircraft technology to wind turbines even to the point of adjusting the blade angle by computer in real time as wind conditions change. Another thing they should be able to do with not much high tech hardware is be able to rotate on their base as wind direction changes to maximize their efficiency. Who knows, maybe they do that already.

RE: Getty Fire

I would be willing to bet that wind turbines are designed to deal with gale force winds otherwise we would have heard about wind turbines being blown down by now. I have no doubt that these wind turbine blades have variable pitch which can be adjusted depending on the wind speed. Not having the ability to adjust the "Angle of Attack" of the blade would be idiotic. This is technology that dates back to the 1950's at least.

RE: Getty Fire

Build a wall of wind turbines to remove much of the energy from these Santa Anna winds I've been hearing so much about which are fanning the flames and sweeping burning embers to untouched areas and starting new fires. Inject the free energy into the electric grid.

When life hands you lemons, make Lemonade.

RE: Mexican F1 Grand Prix.

A couple of things I saw surprised me, the steering "wheel" which isn't even a wheel anymore. Seems wrong somehow. Remember too, pushing those buttons with gloves on, how risky is hitting the wrong button? Another thing I saw during some of the "in car" footage was how far the driver was turning the "wheel" his 2 forearms were making contact so he couldn't turn the wheel any further if he wanted to. That one guy locking up the LF wheel looked kind of amateurish to me causing him to drive across the grass. I had time to yell at the TV "Get off the brakes" Too bad he didn't hear me laugh

RE: By '50 The Oceans May Have More Plastic Than Fish!

I forget where I read it but on the subject of disposing of drain oil someone said what they do is just dig a hole and dump it in.
Years ago in upstate New York the county would spray drain oil on the dirt roads to keep the dust down. I don't know if they still do that.
I guess you can't expect much from a species which evolved from Monkeys.sigh

RE: Democrats Secret Soviet Style Coup Attempt

He's not obligated to keep me happy epirb, it's the US Constitution he has to adhere to and he isn't in compliance, he is clearly violating the Constitution by accepting gifts in the form of cash and services (favors) from foreign governments even going so far as to ASK for favors.

RE: Democrats Secret Soviet Style Coup Attempt

Thank you Dr for bringing up the topic of Trumps enriching himself through his position as President.
Full Story;

excerpt;
KEY FINDINGS
President Trump’s conflicts of interest are so numerous and so all-encompassing that they are difficult to summarize, but here are some key findings from CREW’s attempt to track them during his second year in office:

CREW has identified 12 foreign governments that have made payments to Trump properties during his first two years in office, each of which is likely a violation of the Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause. At least three foreign countries held events at Trump properties during his second year in office, and two of them did so after having held similar events elsewhere in previous years.
Instead of pushing back on President Trump’s refusal to divest from his business, allies in Congress have embraced the arrangement. 53 U.S. senators and representatives made more than 90 visits to Trump properties during his second year in office, up from 47 visits by 36 members the prior year, and similarly, at least 33 state-level government officials visited Trump properties, likely resulting in taxpayer funds going into Trump’s coffers.
More than 150 political committees, including campaigns and party committees, have spent nearly $5 million at Trump businesses since he became president. In Trump’s second year in office, CREW tracked 33 political events held at Trump properties—13 of which Trump himself attended, meeting and speaking with wealthy donors.
Special interests held at least 20 events at Trump properties during the president’s second year in office. Since Trump took office, at least 13 special interest groups have lobbied the White House, some for the first time, around the same time they patronized a Trump property, suggesting that making large payments to Trump’s businesses is viewed as a way to stay in his administration’s good graces.
Over the past year, President Trump made 118 visits to properties he still profits from in office, bringing his two-year total to 281 visits. CREW also identified 119 federal officials and employees who visited Trump properties over the past year, up from 70 the prior year.
In addition to making frequent visits to his properties, President Trump and other White House staff have promoted Trump businesses on at least 87 occasions. Trump himself mentioned or referred to his company 68 times during his second year in office, more than double the 33 times he did so the prior year.
Paying members at Trump’s resorts and clubs have received benefits beyond getting occasional face time with the President. Four Mar-a-Lago members have been considered for ambassadorships since his election, and three other members—with no federal government experience—acted as unelected, non-Senate-confirmed shadow officials in Trump’s Veterans Administration.

Trump has lost billions since he decided to run for president.

And you know this how? Did Trumpet send you a copy of his tax returns?

RE: Why Not Let American People Decide Who Should Be President Instead Of Democrat Impeach

Does that explain why Canada hasn't ratified the USMCA either? We would still have a trade deal with Canada and Mexico if the trumpet didn't destroy NAFTA without a deal to replace it. Same short sighted effort to kill the Affordable Care Act with nothing to replace it with.confused

RE: But really, CS folks, what is it to be rich?...

Chatman, a lot of people, in years past, stash their money in a savings acct. I would like to ask them, Why? It's probably the worst thing you can do with your life savings.

RE: But really, CS folks, what is it to be rich?...

On the subject of money, I was wondering what people do with their excess money they have accumulated over time?

RE: All good things comes to an end!

My advice to you is try to get into a trade school and learn a marketable skill such as Welding, Auto Mechanic, Carpenter, Electrician, Plumber, Painter, Roofer, the list is endless. Warehouse work is for people who can't do anything that requires knowledge and skill. Invest in yourself so that you stand out in a crowd. This way you wont have to bother with Temp Agencies and you will find a good job by making 1 phone call.
You'll have better luck with the ladies also.

RE: Why is it so

Go North on 91st Ave, under Int 10 to right (East) on W. McDowell Rd for less than 1 mile to either the Econolodge or the Comfort Inn. They have a laundry room where you can wash and dry your smelly clothes.

RE: Mississippi Delta Blues...

I think this might go with the topic.

RE: Experts Warn We Have Only 12 Years Left Until They Change The Timeline On Global Warming Again

Here is my own little contribution to the global warming debate. I've been collecting data such as morning temps (since Dec 2010), water table heights, KW usage, rainfall etc at my location from about 2003. It's kind of a hobby. Here are the temperature records for Oct 03. BTW it's 87f here right now. Think about it, When I was a kid in NYC on this date there could have been snow on the ground.

08:00:00 AM
Temperature
2010 44
2011 52
2012 72
2013 60
2014 63
2015 52
2016 65
2017 51
2018 67
2019 70
59.6 Average Temp prior 9 years. That means this morning we were 10.4 deg above average.

RE: I am not giving out my phone number or email and the reason is;

I've learned it's a very bad idea to include your phone number in a Craigslist or EBay ad.
