RE: Poetry

This great poem is not about a man about to have his electric turned off, but a man about to die.

"Dylan Thomas finished Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, a villanelle, in 1951, and sent it off to an editor friend of a magazine, together with a note which read:

“The only person I can’t show the little enclosed poem to is, of course, my father, who doesn’t know he’s dying”.

He also remarked to his friend, American Robert J. Gibson, that the spark for the poem was his father's approaching blindness. Thomas's father was to pass away a year later and the poet himself succumbed to illness and died in 1953.

When Dylan Thomas was a child his father would read Shakespeare and nursery rhymes to him and the dreamy, sensitive Welsh boy absorbed the sounds and music of the texts at an early age.

Their relationship was complex but loving. Dylan Thomas respected his father, a senior master of English, but was no academic at school, and left without furthering his education at university. The young Dylan wanted to publish his poems and go one better than his father, himself a frustrated, never published poet.

So Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night is a poem that meant a lot to Dylan Thomas, who wanted to see his father face death in a blaze of defiance."

RE: Democrats Admit Their Welfare State Policies Have Been A Complete Failure

That's the longest blog post I've ever seen, it's got 3 pics, a cartoon and more words than I care to count.

RE: Yes, I'm in love !

RE: What’s Happening In The US Of A?

Hey Mic, if I had to have a weapon like that shotgun to protect my home, I would move!

RE: What’s Happening In The US Of A?

The country is being held hostage by the NRA and gun manufacturers who love the incredible wealth they get from a robust gun loving faction and people who are afraid their right to bear arms is in jeopardy of being removed. They believe that their guns are at risk of being seized like what occurred in Europe prior to World War 2 by a corrupt government and a mad man with a little tuft of hair under his nose.

Where is Trump the basketball star when you need him?

This reminds me of judges in this country who own stock in prisons that are run by for profit corporations. Talk about putting a fox in charge of the hen house. Is it any wonder our prisons are over crowded to the point of bursting at the seems.

RE: Thick...

What is the difference between reg yogurt and "Greek" style?

RE: Thick...

I make my own Yogurt, in fact I made my own Yogurt maker also. It uses no electricity. I make a gallon at a time, usually from whole milk although I used skim milk one time, the result wasn't quite as good. I even made a batch from raw, unpasteurized milk I got from a local dairy farm, I couldn't tell the difference from using whole milk from the store.

RE: Baked Baby...

This reminds me of the Chris Watts case only Watts killed his kids on purpose. Watts will die in prison one way or another.

This guy Rodriguez made at least 2 fatal errors, the first one was trying to be cool by tinting his windows. No doubt he had the windows rolled up and the AC on as he commuted from home to work. The kids probably fell asleep during the 30 mile ride and never made a peep when he got to his job.
So, his wife will lose not only 2 of her kids but also her husband when he goes to prison and she'll be faced with a $10,000 bill from the bail bondsman. She probably was an unemployed housewife who now has no source of income. I would be shocked if they had any savings with 3 kids and only 1 earner making probably around $10.00 to $12.00 an hour. The cost of living in that area is very high by national standards. On top of all that they are now facing very expensive funeral expenses.doh

I see in your profile, you are an investor, what are you into at the moment and do you have any tips you could share? Have you been at it for a while?

RE: === BREAKING === Huge Win For President Trump! Supreme Court Rules To Approve Border Wall Funding!!!

So bigjb, what you're saying is the cost of corporate tax is passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices for the goods and services the corporation provides?

RE: One Eyed singers...

There have been a few one eyed race car drivers too.

RE: Rain on me !

It's been brutal here the last few days too. Sat & Sun it was 79 at 7AM. This morning we got a light rain and it dropped the temp down to the 60's, boy that sure felt good, it's 68 outside right now at 10:30 PM on a Tuesday evening.

RE: Budget for the US!

Troy isn't that far from Albany, the NY state capital. Not that there's must exciting stuff to do in that area. If I were you, I would plan on spending at least a day in NYC. NYC is known for some great Pizza and if you're a coffee drinker you owe it to yourself to go to a Deli and get a coffee and a buttered roll. Spend a few hours in Central Park and rent a rowboat. Just ask any local New Yorker how to get to Rowboat Lake. Don't go north of 96th St in Manhattan.

What an average person can do to slow down out of control Global Warming

We're getting into Summer here and the days are getting hotter. My son came by the other day and looked at my thermostat. Jesus, it's 80 deg (27c) in here. I said "So?" It's Summertime, get used to it. "Why don't you turn the AC on?" "What for, it doesn't bother me, I'm acclimated to the heat, you're not cause you live in an air conditioned world."

I have a couple of indoor/outdoor Thermometers and when the Sun goes down and the outside temp falls below inside, I open all my windows. I do the opposite in the morning. I have a box fan if it gets hot and if it gets very hot I'll turn on the AC for about an hour to lower the temp inside. My electric bill runs around $35.00 a month. There was a woman behind me online as I paid my elect bill she observed my transaction and exclaimed "Man I wish my electric bill was 36.50 a month instead of $200." I just smiled as I walked past her on my way out.laugh

What an average person can do to slow down out of control Global Warming

Several years ago I bought a string of Christmas lights to run along the driveway. I even bought a photocell timer to tun them on when it gets dark. Now I can't find the light string.

My well water has a slight amber color due to a lot of Iron in the water. I doubt I will ever suffer from Iron deficiency anemia.

A blast from the past

Yeah, I came here when my GF's dad found religion and decided to meddle in his daughters private life. He "suggested" she should get married instead of living in sin. She wanted to please her father so she started putting pressure in me to tie the knot. This grew in intensity until one day she jumped on my lap and gave me half an ultimatum. She demanded we get married but never said the "or else". I had no desire to go down that road for a third time and said so. She started crying inconsolably and I felt the best thing was for me to leave til she calmed down. 3 days later I got an email that said "Don't come around anymore." Did I mention that she lived 65 miles away from me and didn't drive? I thought the best way to get over her was to meet someone else. That why I joined this site.
Eventually she met a macho Mexican guy from LA who lived nearby and he moved in with her.

The best way to combat height shaming is to say that Jackie Stewart is only 5' 4"
and Mario Andretti is only 5' 7".
Not act like a tough guy and risk getting your jaw broken.

RE: Americans - your money is weird!

You probably got new bills. We call them Crisp, they lose that roughness after they've been in circulation for a while.

RE: Checklist for USA.

Sales tax is calculated on the total cost of the items at checkout. I believe the tax is around 5%.

RE: Checklist for USA.

He's going to Newark airport, not Newark, big difference.

RE: It's finally happening!

The cost is for fuel but I haven't updated my program it's base on a vehicle that gets 17MPG city and 27MPG highway at $2.00 per Gallon. Gas is higher now especially where you'll be going. So you can figure the trip cost based on the distance. There are no tolls except if you use the GSP Garden State PKWY or the Jersey TPK through New Jersey. Gas in the Newark area is about $2.65 a gallon and up in Troy it's about the same. Don't even think about buying gas in NYC.

RE: It's finally happening!

I was born & raised in NYC, let me know if there's anything I can do to help you get by without getting ripped off.

RE: The part they don't want you to know

BTW Jim, thanks for the research you did, it saved me a lot of work.thumbs up

RE: SO,TOO SOON TO TALK ABOUT TRUMPS' E X T R A 12 Y e a r s?/FDR GOT4TERMS YNOT tRUMP?

Comparing FDR to DJT is like comparing a fine Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux to warm 3.2 beer served in a Mason Jar. FDR served as President during the worst time in American history. Had FDR lived, he would have served 5 terms. You could say that FDR was president for life because he died in office. Roosevelt was the father I never had and when he died, I vividly remember standing in my crib holding on to the railing, crying my eyes out because I lost my "father". crying

RE: What Is The Number One Threat To American Success Today? The Socialist Takeover Of Our Schools.

Trump is violating the Constitution every minute of every day. The framers of the Constitution warned about someone like trump, when they included a clause that forbade a president from acquiring wealth in his private business operations directly as a result of the power of the office of president. It's known as the Emoluments Clause. "The Emoluments clause states that, absent congressional consent, no one holding any office of profit or trust shall “accept of any present, emolument, office or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince or foreign state.”
Every time a foreign dignitary comes to the United States and stays at a Trump hotel or resort like Mara Lago or the Trump Tower in New York, or any other Trump properties, the Trump organization is making a huge profit. Naturally, they would want to curry favor from the President by staying at one of his hotels instead of an Econolodge or Budget Inn. It's just good business to spend the money where it will do the most good for them.

RE: DECLINE OF UNIONS IN AMERICA

I worked at another union factory also in Queens NY called Welbilt Stoves. My brother got me the job. $1.06 an hour. Do the math, that works out to $42.40 a week. After you're there a while, and you're lucky, you might get to do what they call "Piece Work" meaning you get paid by the piece instead of by the hour. The problem with this scheme though is the number of pieces per hour you have to produce in order to make the higher rate is virtually unattainable unless you work yourself to death. Another way they trick you when it looks like you might be reaching the high dollar rate is they slow down the conveyor belt on the assembly line. Or they drag their feet supplying you with critical parts. I quit that job after about a month when it dawned on me that the union was working more for the company than for the employees. super

RE: DECLINE OF UNIONS IN AMERICA

It sure would be nice if we could have an intelligent discussion about the economy or the job market or anything about life in general, without including the swamp creature in the WH. I guess it just isn't possible for Republicans to discuss anything without bringing Trump into the picture.dunno

RE: The Pressure to Impeach Trump grows every day.

And the trump trolls think he'll be re-elected by a landslide. Now that's what I call Trump Derangement Syndrome. Can someone run for president when he's under investigation for multiple crimes?
