I worked at another union factory also in Queens NY called Welbilt Stoves. My brother got me the job. $1.06 an hour. Do the math, that works out to $42.40 a week. After you're there a while, and you're lucky, you might get to do what they call "Piece Work" meaning you get paid by the piece instead of by the hour. The problem with this scheme though is the number of pieces per hour you have to produce in order to make the higher rate is virtually unattainable unless you work yourself to death. Another way they trick you when it looks like you might be reaching the high dollar rate is they slow down the conveyor belt on the assembly line. Or they drag their feet supplying you with critical parts. I quit that job after about a month when it dawned on me that the union was working more for the company than for the employees.
It sure would be nice if we could have an intelligent discussion about the economy or the job market or anything about life in general, without including the swamp creature in the WH. I guess it just isn't possible for Republicans to discuss anything without bringing Trump into the picture.
And the trump trolls think he'll be re-elected by a landslide. Now that's what I call Trump Derangement Syndrome. Can someone run for president when he's under investigation for multiple crimes?
FB is scary. I had a FB acct a while back, totally fake, name, age, location. I did it just to see what all the BS was about. I made the mistake of interacting with one person and before I knew it I was getting swamped with a hundred suggested connections to other people. I started deleting them 1 by 1 but i couldn't keep up with it so I had my son delete the acct for me.
My brother bobby would have been over there celebrating the anniversary but he passed away in 2010. He was one of the paratroopers who jumped behind enemy lines prior to the D Day landing. He joined the Army on Dec 8 1941 a day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. Ha said the line to join up went around the block.
Spanish Harlem, a neighborhood in NYC that out of towners never get to see. They're too busy looking at the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State bldg.
I've had 5 motorcycles in my life, none of them were Harleys. 1 Suzuki X6 Hustler 250 my first bike 1 Suzuki 380 Triple I rode from NJ to FL & back on that one. 1 Suzuki 550 GS bought brand new in 78 Getting married ended that chapter 1 Kawasaki 400 1 Suzuki 1000 That bike was just too tall for me.
I had intended to look at Harleys new sport bikes because they looked more like what a motorcycle is supposed to be, a fun machine you can lay over and ride on twisty roads instead of just going straight down the interstate with your feet pointing forward.
If you look on CL for motorcycles for sale 95% of them will be Harley Davidson.
When I lived in Queens in the 60's, this was one of my favorite places to go for a wild night out. It had the very misleading name "The Country Club" which probably attracted many out of town tourists who thought they were going to a normal sane place to dine and catch a little entertainment. Boy were they mistaken!
A lot of Brits are in Spain. My guess is they go there to get away from the dreary weather in the UK. Kind of how Canadians and Snowbird Yankees flock to Florida.
jlv, it says in your profile you're an investor. What type of investor are you, stocks, bonds, commodities, Forex, Day trader, buy & hold, or just let the broker manage your portfolio? Got any tips or horror stories?
We had a phone when I was a kid. It was one of those kind you see in old B/W movies with the rotary dial available in any color you want as long as it was black. I still remember our number RE4-7089. The RE stood for Regent. Back then all the exchanges were names and if you gave someone your phone number they probably knew where you lived. Regent was the Yorkville upper east side neighborhood of Manhattan.
I have a smart phone but the only time I remove it from the house is to charge it from the cigarette lighter in my car. I literally hate the thing. The only reason I have it is to get online ie Hotspot. Only 1 person on earth has my number for the smartphone and that's my son. I have a flip phone for calls.
Also it was when Republican president Gerald Ford was in office CA adopted much higher CAFE standards as a way to clean up the polluted air and smog which CA was infamous for. That was a good thing. Now your hero, "Crazy Trumpet", is trying to roll back fuel economy standards nationwide because he is in bed with big oil. his logic runs something like this: Kill fuel economy, sell more oil, make more money.
"The Babylon Bee is Your Trusted Source For Christian News Satire."
Jimnastic often posts satire from the "Borowitz Report" but he always identify's it as such. Maybe you should take a lesson from the other side of the isle? Aren't you the guys who constantly belly ache about Fake News?
It looks like an overhead welding job, good luck! Do you know what material the skeg is made of? Is the skeg welded to the hull? Is that where the break is? Sorry to be asking so many questions but this topic is right up my ally.
If you can take a picture of the completed weld. I'd like to critique this welder. BTW, which part of the underside had to be welded? I'm guessing the rudder.
