Most of the meat that humans eat are not from wild animals. They are farm raised cows, pigs chickens, turkeys, and such.

RE: Trevor Noah on non-scientists denying global warming & the idiots who mislead or believe them.

Thank you for correcting me, as I said, I wasn't sure about Nitrogen. Methane is the gas I was searching for.handshake

RE: Trevor Noah on non-scientists denying global warming & the idiots who mislead or believe them.

I've known about the "Greenhouse Effect" for at least 50 years. Back then it was little more than a curiosity. It was believed it could eventually lead to a warming of the planet but nobody worried about it much because it was just an interesting theory.
The way it works is, visible light passes uninhibited through the atmosphere, strikes solid objects, cars, people, grass, pavement, buildings, trees, etc. these objects absorb that energy and convert it to infra red or heat energy. If you ever got a sunburn or got into a car that was parked out in the Sun in mid Summer you've experienced the effect of Solar heating. The problem comes from the fact that CO2 and other gases in the atmosphere, I believe Nitrogen if I remember correctly, don't readily allow the passage of the longer wavelengths, those toward the infra red end of the spectrum to pass freely through. Glass has the same properties BTW which is why greenhouses are made of glass hence the name "Greenhouse Effect". For years it was known that the earth it getting warmer but the big question has been, is mankind having an impact on the RATE that this is happening? Anything that increases the % of CO2 in the atmosphere will exacerbate (intensify) this effect. Mankind, by his actions in almost every facet of his life, converts Carbon and Oxygen to CO2 by burning oil, coal, wood, Natural gas, or anything else which is rich in Carbon. The very existence of 12 Billion people on the planet contribute to the production of CO2 by simply breathing. The question is not whether mankind is exaggerating the process but by how much. It is no longer a question of IF, the question has become, can he stop it or at least slow it down enough until he can stop it? It's either that or kiss the human race goodbye.

"While President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that the spate of deadly wildfires across the state are due to "gross mismanagement of the forests," a USA TODAY Network review shows many of the worst fires in California have burned largely on federal land.

The largest blaze in state history, the 410,200-acre Ranch Fire, this past summer burned on large swaths of land managed by the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management in Mendocino and nearby counties north of San Francisco.

In fact, six of California's 16 most destructive wildfires in the past 25 years — in terms of structures destroyed — occurred on federal lands, according to Cal Fire records.

In Shasta County, last summer's 229,650-acre Carr Fire started on National Park Service lands before spreading to private property and eventually into the city of Redding."

RE: Trump Schooled....

Trump exhibits the pattern and behavior of a Micro-manager. He's inherited an army of experts who routinely do difficult and complex tasks that he doesn't even understand and is incapable of doing himself. Then he opens his mouth and sticks his foot in it.

I had a boss like that years ago and during my annual Performance Review which was about an hour of boredom, the boss at the end of the interview, in a gesture of magnanimous generosity asks, "What can I do to make your job easier?" I almost laughed because it sounded like a question that came out of a book titled "The Beginners Guide On How To Conduct a Performance Review"

My answer was "John, this company brought me in at great expense for my knowledge, skills and experience. A high rate of pay, including absorbing the cost of an interstate move and 2 months at a Holiday Inn while I looked for a house, Then you go out of your way, almost daily, to tell me how to do every little thing that I've been doing for over 10 years. You ask "What can I do to make your job easier?"
Let me do my job!

RE: It Ain't Paradise any longer

Speaking of Paradise, I think the official who ordered the whole town to evacuate immediately bears some of the responsibility for the horrifying deaths that occurred as a result of the gridlock that caused. If you look at a google map of the area you can see there's only one, two lane road heading south out of town State route 191. You can't go north because that way kind of dead ends. So for the whole town to evacuate on only 1 lane of traffic is asking for a disaster. All it would take is for 1 car to run out of gas or have a crash and everybody on the road would be is serious trouble.

I drove through a fire once because I was in a big rig that was too long to make a U turn and the cops who were turning all the cars around waved us through. The fire was on both sides of the road and we had to close the windows to keep the heat and the flames out of the cab. I wasn't obeying any speed limits on that stretch. My biggest fear was the fire would use up all the oxygen in the air and my engine would shut down. That would be a death sentence.

RE: It Ain't Paradise any longer

There's a fellow from another site I frequent that put out a plea for a place for him and his family to stay. He was from 1000 Oaks. He has no idea if he still has a house to go back to. Fortunately he was offered a place to stay almost immediately by another member who was about 75 miles away.applause

"so,Ooby,to you SCOTUS is just another Branch of the Legislative?"

That seems to be what it is becoming thanks to the former talk show host who only picks hard right judges like Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, and the barefaced enabling of that Turkeyneck from Kentucky, Mitch McConnell who shamelessly blocked Obama's appointment of Merrick Garland to the SCOTUS

You are so in love with Donald Trump you can't see it, or you can but would never admit it. Or are you afraid you might get fired too?confused

So by that I take it as a yes? You like for the country to be controlled by one party right? As long as it's your party is that what you think? Look what happened in Germany in the late 30's when the National Socialist Party gained total control. They sure got a lot done I'll give you that!

"Trump won with a landslide, he 's the most popular president we ever had."
I'll agree with you about trump being popular because he seems to dominate the news cycle day in and day out. A person can be popular but not in a favorable way. There was a girl in my neighborhood when I was a teen who was extremely popular because she would ....well I think you know where I'm going with this.

I must disagree with you about trump winning by a landslide though, because his opponent got a lot more votes from the American people than he did. So I don't see how you can say he won by a landslide.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity of reminding everybody that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.lips

RE: Credit Card Skimmers...

I was a gas station owner years ago and as I recall the key to open the pump was like a house key and it was guarded very carefully. This is the first time I heard of a master gas pump key and it can be got online. I'm having a hard time believing that. I think if I was still in the business I would open my pumps every morning before I opened up and check for skimmers. If I found one I would remove it and leave a love note for the thieves saying your prints are all over these things. Give them something to worry about.

RE: Like... you know?

This is one of my pet peeves. How about Ya know what I mean? Or ya know what I'm talkin about? I feel like saying Aren't you in the process of telling me what you're talking about? If I knew what you're talking about I wouldn't be standing here listening.
Lately when I'm listening to the radio and someone's trying to explain something or answer a complex question I've started to count the number of times they say, uh, umm, like.

RE: Trump's disapproval rating hits all time high & 1/2 of the USA urges impeachment.

BW, you're not the only person to notice how trump supporters can't stop themselves from calling people names like POS or haters, they've even invented a new phrase for the Urban Dictionary "Trump Derangement Syndrome" or TDS. Meaning anyone who isn't in love with Donald Trump is deranged. they seem incapable of resisting the urge to mock on peoples names like calling Obama Obozo or Hillary Clinton "Killery"

Here is a very interesting story no trump lover would dare read lest they see the truth of exactly what kind of people trump associates with. They just might have their blinders ripped from their eyes for the first time.

RE: Worst India flood storms in over century kill several hundred people and leave over 800,000 homeless

There was a rather in depth discussion on another site a few years ago about building pipelines from areas with lots of water to drought prone areas to irrigate crops and fight fires. It's the kind of thing a planet conscious species would do but Humans are anything but I guess. People are just selfish me first and FU pigs driving around in jacked up V8 powered pick up trucks and SUV's with zero regard for Mother Earth or even their future descendants. Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a human.

RE: Worst India flood storms in over century kill several hundred people and leave over 800,000 homeless

I don't know, maybe it's me but they are up to their eyebrows in water and the Indian Gov sends them 400,000 gallons of water?

RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST RECIPE IN YOUR STATE?

OP, I am honored that you would try my spaghetti sauce. You wont be disappointed. My Italian Grandma, who couldn't even speak English, she used to make her own spaghetti, she would roll out the dough with a rolling pin and cut it with a knife. You can't buy spaghetti like that.
