RE: My Best Motorhomes

It appears most of the above replies have no clue or idea of what one can do with these special-built 4x4 small RVs.
First, you don't need an additional car, these vehicles are designed to go everywhere and fit in small spaces. Most are outfitted with 'cassette' type toilets which allow easy, clean dumping of waste. Hookups to water and electric aren't needed - the campers are self-sufficient with battery storage and often solar charging. Fill the large water tank when somewhere you can refill. Mileage, 15-25 mpg.
I've done 400,000 miles of camping in smaller-platform 4x4 campers, VW Syncro Westfalias. The beauty and serenity, and yes, romanticism of being away from it all (and hordes of people) in a forest, beach, or top of a mountain is amazing. Sitting in a paid RV 'campground' is NOT. Nor is it necessary with most of the above campers. I've paid for camp spots less than 5% of the time, there are so many places to go. Very easy to set up a hot shower in the wilderness if one thinks ahead, but some of the above campers have self-contained shower rooms with hot water. In short, don't poo-poo a concept you know nothing about!

Just in case anyone here reads and comprehends - here is a good editorial.

I DARE you to read the whole thing and come back with the same lunatic emotions most of you have spouted here. Shameful.

RE: half man walking

I know this feeling firsthand as well...it's like being run over by a truck. Nothing we dreamed of feels quite the same now, even the mundane day to day stuff is difficult to face most of the time. I lost my best friend and the woman I was planning to ask to marry me, four months ago. She lived in Inishowen, drowned at the young age of 40. I was three weeks too late in arriving. Hang in there...everyone tells me time is the only healer when we lose someone so important to our hearts and dreams...
