RE: Poverty In America

That's not how he describes it.

Which why I have a hard time listening. That's why he's chosen to be where he's at. They have choices too. Maybe more so since they have at least two environments to choose from. Their tribe, or the country they choose to make a go of things in. Some choose both.

I'm aware of their governing system. My Great Grandfather was forced out of his tribe for marrying a white woman. Actually, she was an Irish immigrant then.

I could have learned a lot from him as far as nature, farming, customs, etc. I didn't get to spend much time with him. It would have been nice to listen to what he might have had to say.

My direction was taken away from the area(a by product of being a minor child). My decision was made before my adult years. A heritage left in the past so I could move forward.

RE: Poverty In America

Jenny, I work with a person from one of those tribes in Canada.

I avoid listening to him when he starts describing some of the conditions on the reservation. And some of the other places he used to frequent too.

I do listen to him when he's talking about tapping trees for sap to make syrup and such. He's pretty happy go lucky over all, but only visits Canada because he doesn't want to live there.

The U.S. educational system is another major issue. That system does need an over haul. Actually, it would better if it digressed back to the days when we had to carry a 1/2 dozen books or more to do our home work and prepare for class the next day. Year round is starting to catch on more but it's not there yet.

RE: "Trump has completely mishandled the coronavirus response and should resign"

No one will be able to address the question.

What happens for people that don't show symptoms?

Reports indicate up to 80% of people don't even require special treatments. How many people is that? We'll never know.

It's going to run a course. It will be fought with what is known and learn the rest along the way. Like every major health risk we've ever had.

With all they say about it. I'm in good health over all but even more susceptible than many. I'll take my chances. I still have to work and such, the same as many. We have people in and out from all over. All over the U.S. and even some that travel to other countries for business purposes.

RE: Poverty In America

It's not a Trump thread lou.

It's another you started a blog knowing so much with so little information....again.

Explain Canada's poverty rate. Less than 40 million population, roughly 9-10% poverty rate. With that difference in numbers, shouldn't it be more around 1-2%?

RE: "Trump has completely mishandled the coronavirus response and should resign"

I have been going out jim. Living my life almost every day for what ever is still open. There's not much on an actual long weekend off. Visiting, cook outs, etc.

I'm not the only one. One of a heck of a lot of people angry that the media and politics can cause more harm than good.

So what's gonna happen as the treatments continue? Success? Failure? they're working around the clock from what i gather.

How many aren't showing symptoms that it's all gonna start again?

RE: "Trump has completely mishandled the coronavirus response and should resign"

I'm already donated to science and the use of my organs to others should they still be useful, if I die. No one gets out of life alive.

Shutting down isn't going to stop a thing in the long run, except people's lives and lively hoods.

They will never have an accurate number. People might have already recovered and we'll never know. Too many sick people through the first few months all over.

I'm not buying into this as a reason to shut down. More political with the media spreading gloom and doom to help.

So many more panic stricken.

RE: "Trump has completely mishandled the coronavirus response and should resign"

Already looked at 'em jimmy.

It's still not news to me. Whats news to me is the fact that some of their testing is showing results. H1N1 was an outbreak. Research they didn't get to finish as it passed through. We didn't shut the nation down then.

It was all smooth sailing. No reason it should be shut down now since we actually might seem to more about it then originally thought.

RE: Poverty In America

Again, we have programs that have and do help those people.

Why does every one think the U.S. doesn't have ways in place to help when we've had them since the 70's. Laws have been refined even more since then. States did a better job than the feds until they decided to try taking it over.

Again, no one knows my yard but they complain about it a lot.

RE: "Trump has completely mishandled the coronavirus response and should resign"

Italy also has some of the oldest population. Italy reports many of the deaths had other illnesses. I'm not sure if they updated the the age factors and other demographics.

It could happen in the U.S. too. Cold, flu, pneumonia take lives every year in the hundreds of thousands or more. We don't shut down for them. We don't have cures for them either. Just medications and treatments to help fight them better.

RE: Poverty In America

The medical treatment is one of many things people don't grasp outside of the U.S.

No one is denied. It's unlawful. Extremely unlawful in the case of children.

A private practitioner can limit and/or select their clientele. Hospitals and clinics can not. No one can deny treatment for a serious injury.

As far as work, that's a choice. Many people choose to work as clerks, walmart greeters, etc. No one seems realize how many people do not actually want to work. If it's too much effort; lie, cry, and complain that you can't live but don't get off your duff to do any thing about it.

I paid and worked my way through college. Twice. It's not up to the government. The opportunities are there.

RE: Poverty In America

Poverty still exists in all regions.

The debt, and taxes, rise accordingly. Tax hikes might be delayed but governments are stretched.

The Scandinavians aren't as well set as many are made out to be.

Canada, U.K., Britain, the U.S., Sweden. No country or region is exempt.

They've started more towards Capitalism, but if any one might be able to fully boast putting a dent in poverty more then a few percentage points, it could be China.

They claim a market economy but they co-exist with Capitalism and entrepreneurs. The last claim I read was around 16 million plus in poverty. Down from around 750 million over the decades.

Then we're told we can't trust China's figures and numbers on any thing.

RE: Very good news regarding the Coronavirus

I don't think treatments are far off at all. We seem to already have some to at least fight with.

Maybe a vaccine after a while.

They need to stop the grinding halt they've caused and let things start getting back more to normal.

RE: Poverty In America

It's like watching "Christians" in church talk about how bad some children have it then instead adopt children from other countries instead of their own.

You have said or done a single thing to help where it could have.

RE: Poverty In America

If you don't know or care about the history, you should keep to your own house.

There's a reason why I don't complain about other countries and their choices or status. You should stick to your own home. You don't know enough about mine.

Ignoring the downtrends and the cause, then ignoring the up trends and the reason, doesn't make for any type of reasonable "talking point". In fact, it's not much of a point when you start looking at other countries around the globe.

You can still trace much of it back to government, population, and opportunity. Freedom of choice plays some roles too. Not every quite has that.

RE: Instant Karma ? YOU decide !

They can spend how they see fit into unreasonable debt when we shouldn't have, promise debt forgiveness, and freebies to get votes.

They can't even remotely come up with anything when they say things are dire and force people to lose as they close up shop around the country and globe.

RE: Instant Karma ? YOU decide !

There have already been a lot of sick people this year alone. Early on in the year to present.

Even My grandchildren.

There isn't any way to accurately measure for certain what the majority that have recovered already, were actually sick with. From the onset, most were treating and likely being diagnosed as the flu.

January and February were very harsh months for a large number in my area.

Even with actual testing available now, it's far too late for any type of accurate numbers of infection and recovery.

It would have been far too easy to pass it off as the flu or pneumonia.

I don't believe in karma, fate, destiny, or soul mates. I do believe that the human race has it's own types of natural selection. Some are self created and some are as natural as reproduction.

People will either be able to recover with the advancements we have today, and working on, or they won't. There isn't enough of an impact to justify the actions we're under now.

So some politicians start getting ill. I'm far from concerned as they need that to remind them that they aren't as elite or untouchable as many of them might think.

RE: Instant Karma ? YOU decide !

As far as people getting sick, it doesn't matter who. The person will be able to fight it off or they won't.

Odds are on the high side of being able to fight it off for most.

RE: Instant Karma ? YOU decide !

The better idea has been proposed. Instead of sending cash, up the unemployment benefits to match wages. Isn't that what unemployment insurance is for?

Some may not qualify. They're going to have to make exceptions for people that have been trying to work and now, aren't allowed to.

So far, I'm still working. Many are and many aren't. We've cut way back to essential work only. Like most, I lose income other wise. That means the people voluntarily or forced into temporary unemployment, are losing income.

The long term fix to raise unemployment benefits to match wages would serve better. In the event some businesses can't recover from the unjustified panic once things start back to normal, no penalties and all claims should be allowed as if new.

RE: Things probably would have been much better if someone else was elected

then they try to tell us it's for our own good.

RE: Things probably would have been much better if someone else was elected

So there's a quite a few reasons for any country to NOT keep open boarders.

Suppose some one wants to hurt another country on purpose silently and personally? There are many ways to do that with out proper security measures in place. We see some of it with security measures.

Nope. When it comes to taxes, economy, security, and more; you can only trust a demonrat to make them worse at tax payer expense.

RE: Things probably would have been much better if someone else was elected

So while Trump was starting to ban travel and such, why do the demonrats get a free pass as all they were worried about was impeachment?

That's been their only focus. It was then and who knows what they're concocting now. It's NEVER been the nation and citizens.

RE: Things probably would have been much better if someone else was elected

Can any one explain why the demonrats and media aren't screaming about having open borders now? Among other things.

RE: Things probably would have been much better if someone else was elected

Only media can spin to place blame. Can't actually stop an outbreak if there's going to be one. Population about 320 million plus. Can't just shut down until you know what's going on but they did any way. They should have let things continue normally. No actual impacts have been made except for the media and politics being used to force the current shut downs. Can't blame Trump for that.

Then people like you might have something useful to post jim. Most likely not, since it seems we've had something to fight it with since 1820, 1897, 1932, 1960's, some where in there. Apparently there's been research and refinements for discovery and treatment through the decades. 1897 might be the most significant.

Nothing was good under obozo and no one wants him back. Even in my "union" shop people are literally saying "OH GOD NO!!! NOT BIDEN!!". Of course they say more than that statement but that was a part among some of the first. Only about a 1/4 or so would be dumb enough to bother with sanders.

Trump actually had plans and has been able to primarily deliver. That takes a lot of lies and do nothings away from future campaign trails. We'd have been worse if any one else would have won. There would have been less jobs and ecomical standings to get back too just for starters. Reporst indicate it could quickly boom back bigger and brighter. That probably doesn't make your news sources though.

RE: maybe....could it happen you think

This isn't the big one. Certain government types can make it the big one.

It's evident by the panic that's already taken hold. There isn't anything remotely close to what's already known to justify any of it.

There will never actually be a "big one". It's fear and panic from the number of people afraid that the human race might also have a form of natural selection just like most other species on the planet.

Politicians will exploit this thinking they're primarily exempt. The truth will set in with them as well. These will be the cause of more damages then any thing else in the long run. Too many put more trust than should ever be given in them. Prisons being opened and such are bad decisions. As things settle, another danger and form of chaos stands to grip the people. Also government created.

We have great advances in travel and the amount of people that can be transported at once, all across the globe. That allows any thing to spread faster then ever. Except that it really hasn't hardly made any impacts at all, even before the alarms started ringing.

We also have great advances in the medical fields. We don't need any nanny governments telling us what we already know( a very large majority of us anyway). We do have to be patient and be allowed to live/function in our daily lives mostly uninterrupted.

All of these bad decisions with out any real justification even as a potential "cure", is already in sight. The people still suffer the most in the long run in all directions.

RE: Pandemic Schmandemic--EIS, CDC, WHO... Medico-schmos....the lot....

We still have a national economy and less independence on other countries..

We wouldn't be able to say that or brave much if we had any other person in charge right now. We would have been sold out deeper and harder with nothing to stand on.

So sad people can't think or see that simple truth.

So the demonrats get the pandemic started they wanted( in order to get rid of one person, they wanted every one else at brisk). The sheep all bleat not realizing the true dangers are themselves and the ones they support.

Not buying it. No telling how long the virus was truly active and how many have already beaten it. There isn't any way to know how many aren't going to see a doctor as they get better like any other flu. We'll never know any true numbers from the start. Only what they can record now and it still won't be accurate in any form.

RE: How the Coronavirus will hit... your wallet

Other than what I might need on a regular basis, unless I'm hospitalized from some serious accident or something, the virus isn't going to cost any more than I already spend.

RE: How the Coronavirus will hit... your wallet

That was the whole point of the the so-called "trade war".

We are far from dependent on China.

Though I never thought about it at the time I purchased many of my appliances and such, most of them are made in the U.S.A, Canada, and Japan. It's not just most of my appliances either.

Yes, there will be financial effects. China will feel the brunt of it. Forbes has been quite biased about jobs growth and such. Partially why I use them. You never know which way they'll sway from one topic to the next.

We're not in any type of rough economic shape if congress would stop spending what we don't have.

No. We won't feel too much of any thing over all(unless the wrong people are in charge to over regulate, tax, fine, and spend us warp speed faster, back into oblivion again). Besides, apparently google and amazon has every one's back. Every thing's available and cheaper on the net isn't it?

RE: Some might consider it poetic justice, Karma, or biblical

We already addressed the fact that Trump DIDN'T try to slash CDC funding and the press called your precious demonrats out on those lies too.

RE: Some might consider it poetic justice, Karma, or biblical

It's great to see how many would weaponize germ warfare. It's also extremely sickening. Especially in my own country where I shouldn't have to worry about war so much any more. It was a potentially real threat when I was in the service off on deployment. Better to have the truths out now than for them to blindly hit later.

The very reasons why I can never vote demonrat because their supporters are direct examples of what the party is still, truly about. Hate, money, power, control. There isn't a single thing about them by the people, for the people, or of the people any more.

It's also very sad how the demonrat party and their supporters over play the actual threat. The standard annual viruses have and do close to 20x the damage that the latest virus has done to date.

RE: Ode to the Donald

Science can't seem to determine how much actual impact we have on the planetary cycles.

Most of the climate change people are crying from man made models.

As for OG's "poetry"; who cares?

I think each individual might make up some rhymes or nicknames for many things liked, hated, preferred, admired, and other personal actions or re-actions.

At least he was honest about Shakespeare not having to worry.

Better still, he had the courage to post it for play, criticism..etc.

I agree with some of the comments and such made(maybe from both sides to a degree). I'm just not going to divulge which ones.grin
