Chemical soups like plastic can be unstable. I would guess after years and years of storage the plastic could break down and may even be toxic, but thats a reach, and my knowledge about this stuff is near zero. I bought brand name ground cover plastic sheet from a Hardware store and the stuff fell apart in my hands when I took it out of the box. The clerks were flabbergasted when I returned it.
