So Putin was very friendly after 9/11. Why wasnt he angry about the NATO bases then? His whole objective was to gradually recover all the lost Soviet Empire ! Even east Berlin. A lot of past Communist Russians agreed with him. But Russia needed to rise from its ashes. After seizing the Crimea ports with little effort-When Trump first took office putin thought he would eventually get the Ukraine handed to him on a silver platter. But Trump lost his majority in congress and then he lost his second term. Putin's invasion was a last ditch, desperate move.
