RE: Political Interference

It apears that it's only Pyrite who has any understanding of what the charges are and what they mean.

How can anyone support, or refute the charges without knowing what they are, what they mean, or what evidence there is to support, or refute the charges?

RE: Political Interference

How should I go about researching your opinion, Rob?

RE: Political Interference

Could you explain the charges to me, please, and how your opinion above relates to them?

RE: Political Interference

There is contradictory information in this comment, so I'm guessing some of it is a quote and some of it is your opinion.

Without appropriate punctuation, or spacing I'm confused, Rob.

RE: Political Interference

The First Amendment isn't an excuse for a free-for-all with no consequences. The right to freedom of speech doesn't include speech which violates other laws, or result in illegal actions. For example, you can't pubicly call for, nor plan a murder, regardless of your personal opinions about that murder, or murder in general. It never ceases to amaze me how many US citizens can't grasp that concept.

As for the protections of the presidential position, you might find this interesting:

Any practical protections Trump might have had as a sitting president no longer apply now he's an ex-president.

RE: Political Interference

Having heard the charges, I'm not sure Trump knowing he had lost is relevant.

Even if he whole-heartedly believed that he had won, insurrection wasn't the legal protocol for challenging the election outcome.

If someone thinks they've paid too much tax, robbing the Inland Revenue rather than applying for a rebate will lead to prosecution.

I'd be very surprised if the case against Trump is based on superfical evidence, or flippant reasoning. The more high profile a case, the more confident the prosecution will want to be before indicting.

Of course there is a political element because no one in their right mind would think a perfidious person with minimal self-restraint a reasonable candidate for the presidency. It's lazy, or delusional, however, to think that politics is the only basis for the various charges.

RE: That's a lot of BULL...

This one is harder to watch.

RE: That's a lot of BULL...

This is difficult to watch, but it explains the cruelty and, if you watch the matadors, gives an insight into the machiavellian culture it is steeped in.

RE: That's a lot of BULL...

The bulls are 'angry' because they are tormented and tortured both before and during the 'game'. They are trapped in a small, dark space away from their herd, stabbed and then let lose into the brightness of the arena.

Making the bulls confused, dazed, painful, fearful and fighting for their lives creates a 'good show'.

Complaining does make a difference as fewer countries practise bullfighting. It it banned in some Spanish cities.

We complained about fox hunting here in the UK and it is now banned in Scotland, England and Wales. It just takes time for politicians to catch up with the will of the people and realise they can gain, or lose votes by taking one side, or the other.

RE: The Twitter bird is gone...

Yeah, I've noticed how open powerful men in the US are to equal rights and the social nuances of systemic discrimination.

I'm sure volunteering my unpaid service as a woman will be highly valued and not dismissed at all. laugh

RE: What's up with all the scammers and money hungry women?

For many people scamming in whatever shape, or form, is a means of survival.

We criminalise those who will do anything to put food in their children's mouths, yet revere those who are obscenely wealthy and are equally expoitative.

Which one is taking the easiest path? hmmm

RE: The Twitter bird is gone...

I've worked out why it's bugging me, even though I think it's a clever design in some ways.

It's very straight edged and masculine, but presumably the ideal is to appeal across gender. If it has been a chi-shaped X it could have been a less obscure bird imae as well as having masculine and feminine elements.

A more mascuine presentation kinda says, "Freedom of speech for all men; everyone else not so much."

A bit like, "Freedom of speech for all those who can pay for a check mark and ten times the character count; everyone else not s much."

I think Musk is missing social nuance on his social platform to the extent that it's not really living up to it's unique selling point.

RE: What's up with all the scammers and money hungry women?

The gender of the profile isn't necessarily the gender of the person who created it, nor are they necessarily in the location they state.

These profiles are specifcally created as a scam. As obnoxious as it is to prey on the lonely and naive, these scammers are often poor.

Is it really any different from being scammed by any business, like large food, or pharmaceutical corporations? Most business rely on extorting our vulnerabilities.

It's a matter of being discerning...and not taking it personally.

RE: The Twitter bird is gone...

I saw it as a bird with it's wings spread out.

It's kinda clever and fails miserably at the same time.

His cars are a bit like that, aren't they? dunno

Greenhouse Gases

I don't think we have to compare ourselves with others. If we have an idea of our share, or what is sustainable, we can compare ourselves in the present with our goals.

It is a numbers game in as much as our contribution to unsustainability, or sustainability adds up, but if we are going to manipuate statastics it needs to be meaningful and fair. Comparing ourselves as individuals to whole nations in a bid to justify our personal unsustainability is madness, especially when there are undertones of discrimination.

As for the food industry, the most immediate action we can take is withdrawing our financial support from factory farming and mono-agricullture, especially those of us in the West who can afford to seek out alternatives.

Yes, it would be fantastic if governments stopped subsidising unsustainable farming practises and were no longer in the pockets of big food corporations who fund them to create bad policies, but ultimately our consumer choices fund it all.

RE: Record heat

It was hammering it down with rain all day yesterday here in Wales. It was more like February than July, but a bit warmer and muggier..

Today is cloudy, but again we still have a strong breeze that is drying everything up fairly quickly.

RE: Book Banning in America

Have read the link in your op, Lovely, I've just ordered a copy of Gender Queer: A Memoir by Maia Kobabe.

I'll let you know what all the fuss is about.

RE: The crowd booed her for protesting a questionable call...

"...Tóth walked over to the spot and wiped away the mark with her foot and giggled."

Well, that's simply not cricket, as we Brits say.

RE: Possession of stolen Israeli artifacts...

How do, Riz. wave

Yes, that's how I see it. Biden was very much a vote against Trump, rather than a vote for Biden. He's acceptable for being white and male, even with a s*xual assault allegation hanging over him and all sorts of touchy-feely gossip flying about.

Now all we have to d is work out why we've got that immigrant-prejudiced. second generation immigrant, Rishi Sunak in office. That was a seriously twatish mistake..

RE: I am beginning to become a pretty decent cook!

I get the impression from your blogs that at work you have learned your job requirements. You work swiftly, accurately efficiently and with a certain amount of joy.

Those are just the traits required for cooking.

Omlettes are best if you don't over-fill them and try to be neat. The art of scrambed eggs is not too much milk and take them off the heat before they are fully cooked - they will cook to perfection in the time it takes you to take the pan to the plate and serve.

A beef wellington may seems ambitious, but the different parts are maybe not so difficult. Maybe just try one part at a time. Make pastry for simple pies, make paté for toast, etc., before bringing it together in a wellington.

I once knew a chef who liked boring, traditional British food like sausages and mash, but made delicious plant based food that he didn't like himself. I don't know how he did that, but he was very neat, efficient, quick and he was very emotionaly involved in customer satisfaction.

I think you will become a very good chef.

RE: Technical Difficulties...

You have time to count alll of Chat's many blogs and you have time to monitor my propensity for lengthy debate, but you don't have time to have a wee chat about your stalking behaviour. hmmm

Is there a digging emoji...? laugh

RE: Technical Difficulties...

You're counting his blogs, the number per day, or week, you're averaging and tracking. hmmm

Are you the type of guy that will always be the perpetrator...? giggle

RE: Technical Difficulties...

A street is a public footpath, but following someone excessively and with a certain intent may be considered stalking behaviour.

RE: Possession of stolen Israeli artifacts...

What do you mean by 'throw under a bus', Butcher?

RE: Possession of stolen Israeli artifacts...

Can we run a book on whether he drains the oil out of the lamps before giving them back?

RE: Possession of stolen Israeli artifacts...

If you want to see objectivity with respect to allegations against Trump, why muddy the water with allegations against Biden?

Bringing Biden's faults, failures, or alleged crimes into the discussion is a Trump era Republican diversion technique.

Maybe when Biden is no longer a sitting president, some things might catch up with him, too. dunno

RE: Record heat

So, slow torture basically.

Imagine what our grandchildren will experience if we don't pull our finger out with respect to living sustainably.

RE: Record heat

Yes, it was very humid early this morning.

Now at midday it's gone up to 17C, but a light wind has dried everything up a bit and it feels cooler, fresher and hardly like a heat wave at all. hmmm

This is ideal weather for me, only surpassed by a dry, frosty winter day with light sunshine.

My oven's lowest temperature setting is less than your highest ever weather recording. wow

RE: Record heat

For some reason beyond my ken, we're having a typical Welsh summer of changeable weather, but mostly light rain.

It's predicted to remain as such through to mid August, according to the Met Office's long range forecast. The academic year ends today, so hopefully we'll be able to the grandkids out and about for most of the holidays without risking heat stroke.

It's currently 14C, muggy enough to need a fan on full blast, but I can't quite believe our good fortune compared with the awful conditions elsewhere.

RE: Possession of stolen Israeli artifacts...

That would be feckin' hilarious if it wasn't so tragic in context.

Nothing is sacred, or safe, is it? Not women, not religious artifacts, not top secret documents, nothing.

It's a trifling thing compared with describing his first drone target authorisation as a 'win' when 22 civilians including 10 children under the age of 12 were killed, but it does add to an overall picture of his psychological state.
