RE: Zoom

Yep, UF. I had trouble with Zoom as well, and similar story with sometimes no audio or video. Got out my trusty old tiny camera, which haven't had to use with newer computers, which have cameras built in. Because this machine is old, got it from one of my twins, when I got her a new apple machine. this old one with no built in camera. I'm so cheap, I should just cough up a couple hundred bucks at a big box, but Zoom really not worth much to me, at least for now. I feel your pain.

RE: Name ONE positive that has come out of the stay at home.

Point well taken uv. The large one, just on top of the head. cheering

RE: Name ONE positive that has come out of the stay at home.

Into cash just before C-19 market selloff, now slowly buying on dips, somewhat intrepidly, as worse economy maybe yet to come. Lots of sloth delayed home projects/etc. completed. New kitchen walls and trim in one rental unit. Tune ups/other maintenance on Honda and Mitsu. Swapped motors on lawn mower from junked unit.. More amateur radio foreign contacts. Work on fake book tunes on Guitar. Clean up old URL's and PW's. Practice more Portuguese on Duolingo. Work on parents' estate as executor. Search for auto for other twin, after got nice one for first twin.Still waiting on Maine frost to in garden, but ground prepped. Sight in rifle scope. Other stuff, as well. Oh, more time on CS blogs to tease CS detractors and vet likes/emails. Esp. the lower class ueber angry ones.

RE: Obama, Schiff, You got a lotta 'splainin' to do

W, and M---thanks for expanding on my admittedly skinny treatment of all these Obama and Hilary (FBI) libs who will soon be standing on the bloody platform of Esquires Barr and Durham's indictment Guillotine. Gotta get a huge bucket for so many heads. Not a few with nappy/curly hair. We in the great unwashed Les Miserables crowds will cheer at every drop of the blade. VIVE le MAGA! Au front, les citoyens.Clinging, onto our guns and our Bibles.

The Wizard of Oz, as metaphor for the corrupt...

Yes, uv. There are also the so called "idiots savant", a terrible term. Remarkable ability to calculate and recon future/past calendar dates, etc. Or the Polynesian ocean sailor, who can stay on course for hundreds of miles, using the stars, movements of birds and fish, odors of the sea, and God knows what else. And the "primitive", living off the bounty of the Jungle, and avoiding being killed off by the countless number of mortal threats there. Yep, it's easy to be too limited in our understanding of what's called intelligence. And we've not even begun to discuss the "paranormal".

RE: Immune Booster Not.

Hey Usha. Yep, while there may be some nutraceuticals and other supplements that are in general healthful, and therefore could have effects on "boosting" the human immune system a bit, evidence for such specific effects is typically lacking. There is evidence that hunger and dietary deficits of sorts can hamper general health, and thereby immune function. The same seems to hold for various types of shock and stress. The immune system is complex, and composed of many sub systems, many of which interact in exquisite and still poorly understood fashions.
There are parallels here with the concept of "a cure for cancer". While certain characteristics of cancer are shared with all such illnesses, the various "types" of the crab are legion. So it is with our immune systems. And there's a frustrating "whack a mole" Jones going in all such research/therapy.
Modern genetics and molecular biology has allowed us to sniff about under the tent here a bit. But these factors make researchers nervous about proposing new therapies, as apparently beneficial interventions in one part of these systems, soon turns up problems elsewhere, often much later. For example, radiation and chemotherapies have "cured" some cancers, most notably those of the blood in kids. But as a group, these survivors now are at increased risk for repeat cancers, of the same or other sorts. Intensive watchful surveillance does help in many cases.
Over the past 20 years, there's been a flood of newer "biological" agents to treat all sorts of illnesses. Some work quite well over the long haul, but for many, typically those targeting one cellular component of the immune response, whack a mole sets in. It seems as if the immune system cops an attitude about being fussed with, and compensatory actions, usually with cellular receptors, or intracellular modulators (second and third messengers) occur, raining down on everyone's day. But the problem isn't nearly as bad as with effective preventive agents, such as vaccines.
In the past, any of the many types of lung cancer usually meant a life expectancy in terms of months. Some now survive for years. Not too shabby.
All of this is evidence of living in exciting and promising times, you brilliant SL hottie heart throb. And by the way, a few here just might be medical experts. But I digress.

RE: Anybody Seen Captain Demento Recently? He's MIA.

D-man. Yep, even when some of this is made up, it turns out to be true. And as to the linguistic (and other) ignorance emanating from the swamp, Madame Antoinette said something quite dufferent, but probably with similar intent. Pathetic. Probably a product of the highly successful ueber liberal government schools. Success at indoctrination, that would be.

RE: Never Say You Can't

Great Blog, W. Whenever I feel a desire to wallow in my incredibly privileged, self absorbed, whine of self pity, this helps. How about that girl, and her parents!

More boring epidemiology.

Thanks, Pat. Great help. Always needed, especially under circumstances of vast super human knowlegde.. Where do I send the check for the consult?

More dreadful/dreary lecturing on Epidemiology.

Thanks, Luke. She and her sister were great animals. Died within a month of each other.

RE: Way forward.

Usha. Your beauty is exceeded only by your patience, and erudition. I know how eager you are to spend a little time in the Vierk tree top passion pit, and let's be frank, what woman wouldn't? So in spite of the long list of desirees, you go right to the top, of the list, and the spruce tree. BTW, I have posted a number of placards on the branches, displaying my favorite Tantric G spot multiple pleasing tactics/positions. But this will probably only be old hat to you. Stay safe, my treasure.

RE: cytokine storm... don't call the weatherman about this one!

Good blog, C. Yes, some long available drugs are proving helpful, and their mechanisms are seemingly unrelated to viral load, location or action. And they have long records of use, so are relatively well known, in terms of side effects, etc. H-chloroquine is an example. Most clinicians reach for the ventilator/respirator in a picture of what is seen as a lung oxygenation issue, in the face of falling oxygen saturation, respiratory muscle fatigue, lack of help from nasal oxygen, and the cascade of organ failure (heart, kidneys), that worries them most. It's a case of things appearing as a nail, when a hammer is available. All hospitals have ICU beds with machines to assist breathing, but the act of breathing isn't so important for ECMO. In most cases, these more rarely available machines are thought of as more than what is needed, and access to blood for them to do their thing isn't without it's own risks. Treating viral lung infections is pretty well understood, for the usual viral lung infections. C-19 is proving different in many ways. Everyone's learning on the job. When we have Star Trek medicine, much less of this will be needed. Beam me up, Scottie.

Cardinal Georgie Boy Pell.

Thanks. Matie. My broader readership, who all should learn how better to spend their time, will be thankful as well.

Striking changes in the natural history of the Syndromes. As in writing, "if Trump is reelected".

Love it. Falling right into a trap that has borne brushing away results more than once. Falling on their own sword. Hanging on their own petard. Giving just enough rope to tie their own noose. Don't change and please do not stop.

Striking changes in the natural history of the Syndromes. As in writing, "if Trump is reelected".

Much there is spot on, D. Thanks.

RE: "Me Too" & "Believe The Woman" Are Dead As Caesar

PF. What, girl? Single forever? Even with totally irresistible catches like le moi on the loose? Surely you jest.

RE: BCG (the TB inoculation) could be an answer

Bloody awful, V? Not if you had a little squeezebox like me there with you.

RE: I Don't Get The Gold Thing

I, and all of the staff at the Vierk Institutes, thankfully mostly have been in cash from shortly before our financial good friend, Madame C-19, arrived on the scene. She's the best friend of us intrepid market timers. But when to jump back into the fray? Nuff said.

RE: BCG (the TB inoculation) could be an answer

All. An inexpensive and efficacious vaccine has existed for some time. George Bush and Mr. Trump have entered into an agreement with the Israeli laboratory that developed it. The brilliant strategy plans to corner the market, and to reap huge profits. At the Vierk Institutes, we have managed to secure our share as well---all staff and families get it for free.

Striking changes in the natural history of the Syndromes. As in writing, "if Trump is reelected".

Thanks, SL. Such sweet compliments come all the time, but the more the merrier.

RE: Comet Atlas

JS. Yep, I was listening to all night AM radio, and by one of the less grounded show hosts, this comet was mentioned, as was a possibly also incoming exoplanet, several times the size of our own Jupiter. Both said to have been detected this year. So glad there's a marijuana store not far away. I'll surely get nicely less grounded if either of these things are really headed our way.

Planned, but random, periodic fasting---CS or otherwise.

Just minutes until my 2 day fasting from Blogging here on CS expires. Can't wait. Neither can so many hotties.

Planned, but random, periodic fasting---CS or otherwise.

CC, easily the broadest thinker here on CS Blogs/posts. I only come close because I'm always thinking about the BROADS here.

Planned, but random, periodic fasting---CS or otherwise.

Thanks, all. Yes, V, that would be the fasting plan I find best. And as usual, CC, right on target.

Finally, the new syndrome for liberals.

Trump Derangement-Hilary Deficit Syndrome. Now subsumed by the more general LH4S variant. Just watch long enough here, and don't take my word for it.

Planned, but random, periodic fasting---CS or otherwise.

M. Enfermedad, por seguro. Dentro de la cabeza, no?

Planned, but random, periodic fasting---CS or otherwise.

Well, of course one always makes exceptions for certain classy ladies, no? Y hablando de mujeres sin educacion, donde esta nuestra cholita pequenya de Australia?

Comrade three residences fiddler on the roof drops out.

Yep, Conrad, my friend. Of course, this aging brain got the yabba didyes mixed up a bit, but hey, I take pride in such resemblance to Sleepy Joe. Stay safe.

Finally, the new syndrome for liberals.

Who could blame you, PF? When I can't sleep, I read something that I've written.

President Trump is immune, Usha. This virus only infects human cells.
