Words and phrases....."Falling" in love....Oh,

Well put, JN. Sort of what I was trying to get at. But I have met folks, together (more or less) for decades, who seem to have committed, at least emotionally, right away. Perhaps simpler times, and more inexperienced/innocent people. Some things seem much fster these days, and perhaps values evole some.

RE: A BIG Christmas Disappointment.

Great, K. But perhaps our JN is more a fire engine red, or Brtitish racing green sort, no?

Christmas on the crazy Maine coast....

Thanks, JN. Will try. Twins visiting for help if I need any.

RE: Ho, ho, ho !

Great work, as so often.

RE: The Christmas Truce of 1914

Thanks, W, for reminding us of this sign of humanity. But the whole story includes more subtlety and nuance. There were indeed fraternizations, after nervous starts,.and exchanges of gifts. But officers, typically higher brass than subalterns, most also quite as young as their charges, voiced threats of summary executions for the friendliness. More to the point, this was early in the conflict, and all these youth, still mostly glad to have eagerly volunteered for slaughter, were still under the illusion of a war ending quickly. No such repeated dramatics thereafter..History.

Home sweet home....

Thanks, HE. Point well taken. But they offered me permanent positions. sign on bonuses. and cushy no work admin title. Perhaps just to torture me.

RE: Hammond...

No BS, C. Here in Maine folks give out all sorts of stuff on either Uncle Henry's or Craig's List. Mostly junk. But once there was a scratched up B 3, sans Leslie, free to haul off. Haul is the operative word. He who hesitates is lost.

RE: Hammond...

You got me, C. I wanted so to show off by mentioning the Leslie box,---beat me to it.

Christmas gifts, for the discrete CS blogger crowd. The Steely Dan, all.....

Right on target, JN. As so often. In a display of my sheltered childhood, never knew what the term meant, Until I heard their music, and asked around. Best Jazz-rock guitar work, and lyrics. Sorely missed.

RE: I'm Mrs Scrooge

And mine to my zipper. Balkan girls.

RE: I'm Mrs Scrooge

Right on target, as usual, BA. I and a number of well heeled CS gents are thinking of sending you a new car as an un-PC, VERY un-PC, Christmas, Bah Humbug, gift. Let us know if it's somehow too far outside of your admirable sensibilities.

RE: The short & sweet of it

If any that vertically challenged and pretty actually seem otherwise real, sent them my way. A short guy's dream. Merry Christmas, and other season's greetings, to you and yours, my friend.

European women.....

All, thanks for the input. Well, things have probably changed over the past half dozen decades or so. Hygiene seems to follow changes in peoples' lives. Early last century, here in the USA, a sizable percentage of (rural) homes had neither electricity, nor indoor plumbing. Some of these changes may have come later elsewhere. But in the 60's here, during commune days, some pretty educated/well heeled young folks made the choice to live with few modern conveniences. And it seems to be happening again. Then there are the growing numbers of homeless.

European women.....

Thanks, Red. English girls certainly are different. Yum yum. And just BTW, I really haven't noticed any French females here blogging away with us irresistible CS caballeros.

RE: The Christmas walk

We used to spend some time in winter in the sunshine state. Loved it. Yep, some gators grow pretty big and mean. Some have taken lots of animals, including the smaller two legged sorts. But there's a video, I think on You Tube, of a domestic cat facing a big one down. Someone might have played it here, and when I figure THAT out, I may do so myself. Typical life on a bayou setting, and the gator decides to cautiously saunter up toward the house, from the shore. Cat comes right down to it, and gradually, in a series of daring back and forth moves, gets the gator to back down into the drink. Can't make this stuff up.

Another possible breakthrough in TD-HDS natural history...

OK, Thanks, M. Wish I could learn how to spend OPM as well as liberals and socialists. Communists are best at it. Except for high ranking party members, Nyet, Tovarish?

Another possible breakthrough in TD-HDS natural history...

AB, one thing at a time. C---Who?

RE: Going to California...

Yep, C. Do we do too much for our kids? Paying for their undergrad degrees. New car Grad present, to share as twins at first, till the other finishes license work. Just like our factory worker parents did for us. Doubt with the way the world's going, they'll will want, or be able to, do such things, if they even decide to have children, which is also an evolving issue.

RE: The Christmas walk

Good, HE, that you restrict the walks to flat lands. Keep them well under 500 meters, old man. If not, be sure a member has resuscitation training, and that you carry a working cell phone, and cardio-version portable unit. One that stores hundreds of joules.

RE: I Am In Jail

Well, Track, you seem to have made out OK. But I've only been on FB half a dozen times, over a decade ago, when our girls asked me to do so. They wanted friends' parents to be in touch, and I stopped after seeing through it right away. At the time I entered little about me in getting the account---now they want tons of stuff, I'm told. I just don't get it. I can do as much keeping in touch with the world as I like without it, and don't suffer (as much) shameless data mining as the lemmings trapped forever on FB. But whatever floats our boats.

RE: Mormon church stockpiles $ Billions to avoid taxes

JN, my friend. I agree with IW and many others. With your endless yellow dog media lifted yellow sheet, (LAT, NYT, WP fake news sources), you've almost single handedly turned this into a series of political rant sessions. Yes, you. Do you really want to do so for religion? Perhaps the LDS community, as with many other organized religious traditions, has some tax obligations excused. I worked in an LDS health center years ago, and got used to veggie burgers, and many nice, if perhaps John Smith misguided, folks. They talked of these supplies as preparations for catastrophe. And they said some are used for charity food pantries, before the term was cool. But soon (2020) you'll have more time to change your focus from syndromic led activities, to attacks on religion instead. Change for you, perhaps. But the Christian religion hating biased alt left media will be right there for you to copy and post in yellow. Decisions, decisions.

RE: We're having a party ! - Impeachment Day

Well, BS, you see. In my deep psychopathy, after I win the Nobel Prize for a cure for Tump Derangement-Hillary Deficit Syndrome, I'll be a shoe in for some scientific advisor do nothing government sinecure to the next 12 years at the White House. Serving our Brilliant Dazzling Awesome President Trump, and VP Ambassador Haley, or continuing VP Pence. But with the staff hirings and firings so far, I won't quit my day jobs. All will agree.

RE: We're having a party ! - Impeachment Day

This is serious medical science all you erudite CS posters.. I'm counting on you all to nominate me for the Nobel Prize. No slackers, what?

As with Chairman Mao's little red book....

Yes, CC. My friend. No shortage of up tight styles on both ends of the political spectrum. In my experience, the difference lies in the levels of awareness of such, and of how some allow the trait to dictate behaviors. As we all see here.

RE: Opening Your Eyes

Well, UF, of course you are correct. There are many reasons for this, and I think these evolve as we age from the slumber years of adolescence, to melatonin deficits of adulthood. But since having adopted big dogs for decades, and done my share of spoiling/enabling/codependency---I no longer have trouble being awaken quite early, even though I've been fortunate enough to have strategically avoided any more women for all night bed partners. It's not easy to remain, even in the deepest of delightful dreams, or indeed useful nightmares, asleep, with huge paws on the chest, and a big wet nose in the face. All one has to do is to adjust the timing of the pre bed walk. For more sleep, make it closer to midnight. Who needs an alarm clock?

RE: God is Good

Yes, the Goddess. She has always been much kinder to me than I deserve. The Priests in the Catholic Church, and many nuns, not so much. But for some, belief in a higher power provides comfort and strength. As long as the strength isn't military, in the form of Crusades, for example.

RE: If you already had a feeling that Greta Thunberg was a puppet… welp, look no further for validation

Yep, Micman, all. Having worked with a few of these kids and families, and possibly having one or two in my own kin group, ain't hard for me to feel sympathy for her. Yep, not a lot going for her, but many of these kids, if high on the spectrum, as she appears to be, can lead productive, happy and meaningful lives. But you are on target about her family intentions. And it's much worse with the Climate Change-Global Warming Syndrome (that would be CC-GWS) crowd, almost a form of abusive exploitation of the easily led. But who's surprised at pandering TIME magazine?

Beyond the three year which hunt....Failed, serial, hunts...

All good stuff, Micman. But why don't you just tell us all how you really feel?

RE: Before you are misled by some dimwit, who has been misled by someone with an agenda...

And just BTW, my good friend of marginal credentialed scientific training, mine are indeed multiple, valid, and include include words like "Emeritus", smack dab at the top of the paper. Down boy, down. A tiger by the tail, good buddy.

The British election....a cautionary tale....

Oops, forgot also to add, "Government is not the solution. Government is the problem." Who said that?
