RE: Watered down Characters

One can take the bed pan changing job away from the girl, but the bed pan changing graceless style lingers on. I'll skip the classless comments on obvious features of physiognomy, spelling errors, education and such. These fit so much better from whence they come. But more will surely come. Indelible features of personal style. Class is destiny. Rare exceptions.

Mid 90's matriarch soon to leave us.

Thanks, all. Headed down there again today. Sibs all home, except youngest sis, who arrives soon from the UK. New sore prevention beds are wonderful.

Mid 90's matriarch soon to leave us.

Thanks, Biff.

RE: Animal Farm...The Trump Era

Yep, self loathing white privilege guilt is never far away from our, thankfully minority, CS lefties. Every now and again it gets stirred up even more than usual, often in response to a brilliant and visionary POTUS. The proximate infectious agent is now the deadly Trumpococcus, but recall there was a time when derangement syndrome du jour was caused by the sepsis gifting gram negative Reganiella. He'll make everyone poorer, and get us into a nuclear war with the Reds. Remember, and just how'd those predictions work out? Booming economy, tax reductions, lower regulatory burdens, and a huge reduction in Nuclear arms. Plus, the end of the evil empire.True to form, the gist of Orwell goes quite over America hating alt leftie heads. Big Brother and cohorts formed a cautionary tale not of right wing sorts, but of the lefties supreme, the Communists. All animals are equal---but some are more equal than others. All lefties are clueless, but some-------.

RE: So you think you can judge

America hating libs, all. Laugh heartily, as this talented judge will be seated soon. And after November, with demented Ginsburg soon to leave, and after our brilliant President's remaining 6 years, President Pence will seat a few more. Trump keeps promises, continued success on several fronts, in spite of his admittedly atypical style, and the core support grows. With people of color unemployment at all time lows, some growth even there. Hohohohohohohohoho.

RE: The swamp that Trump is draining

And, LJ, chase away all the true SNAKES!

RE: Interacting

Yes, Biff, social connectedness, variously defined, does have evidence based support as a part of overall health and less so, longevity. I have not looked at the original research papers on this topic, but have done so for the other factors on this non-medically trained lassie psychologist's list. Given these disclaimers, those items such as diet, exercise, substance use, etc., along with genetic and cultural background, are important factors in health and longevity, and the paper trail for this is decades old. The social factor research is much less long in the tooth, which is for me a cautionary item. I'd also want to know to what extent this lady could variously profit from what may more be strident and enthusiastic self promotion, rather than seasoned scientific evaluation. BYU, a Mormon institution, is certainly not a hotbed of even handed views on lifestyle items. Parenthetically, their party line of non drinking/smoking vegetarianism has validly likely contributed to their, as a group, living almost a decade longer, and in better health, then other groups. Yet I've known for some time that relatively significant percentages of LDS followers do indulge in many less healthful life styles. Also, the John Smith tablet story has always seemed suspicious to me, as has the early trends toward polygamy in the followers of this very recent new faith. Any reading of the Book of Mormon shows great similarity to the Bible's New Testament, replete with similar themes, and phantasmical actors/places. I suspect plagiarism, perhaps under the influence of substances, or even less than firm holds on reality. Finally, the emphasis on a relatively easy life style component (social interaction) over those much harder to manage, could influence many to avoid really significant commitments to healthful lifestyles, which would be ethically inappropriate, especially if based merely on much younger evidence.

RE: Kids taking there lives, sucide.

DM. Our twins were bullied in middle and high school. One recovered well, and is finishing university soon. But the other is still recovering, very slowly, and ve hope she can finish high school on line, and join her sister as two university students in their apartment. We almost lost the girl who now seems on better ground. Some kids do fade away.

RE: Travel companion

With rare exceptions, the sort of female who would join you brings along baggage big enough to fill several land yachts. The trick is to find someone who doesn't need to depend on such offers. Women who can stand on thier own two feet, rather than see the world on knees or back. Rare on CS.

RE: Guilt feelings about ageism.

Have taken some of my younger GF's sailing, MC riding, and alpine backpacking. Often the struggle to keep up. But more mature women for my sensibilities at least, are much better. As long as they are healthy and active. And smoke cigars.

RE: Watching out for motorcycles...

All, Yeo, no helmet law here in Maine as well. Stupidity. I keep lights on (Old '83 Wing does this automatically, and wear a loud helmet and bright red anorak. Stop and look X3 at each intersection, where applicable. But they still fail to see us. The ultimate defensive motoring, ---ride a touring motorcycle.

RE: I HATE THAT MOMENT WHEN MY ANGER TURNS TO TEARS

Far better than fire going to the head, followed by loud angry words or worse---I should know, in days long past.

RE: Gardening for Beginners

Quite, ITCS. And those fresh tomats and snap beans. But best of all is just that minty aroma of the tomat plants themselves.

RE: Gardening for Beginners

Like much of our culture, there's an app, and a course, for everyting. Sure, some of it has it's place, and these courses are terrific venues for meeting a partner. But I just cover my plot with the free lumber wrapping s (20X15 feet) from lumberyards each spring, (I know, someone will raise fears of toxin residuals ---I wash thoroughly, and let set in sun), cut small holes for seeds/seedlings, fertilize and turn dirt, and plant. Water now and again. WireSticks with ties for tomats and other high growers. With small holes, weeding is a cinch, and one bag of fertilizer does the trick. So much growth each season, I give lots away. Watch the zucchinis--if you blink, they double in size! Then mostly good only for breads. At end of season, leave tarp there to keep weeds at bay till remove it with dead stuff in one convenient bundle in spring.

RE: How can you mend a broken heart

As in much of life, LJ, an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. To mend a broken heart, avoid it in the first place. Sure, easier said than done, but if we strive to have love of selves and self respect, reduce dependency and image problems, watch what drives our thoughts and motives ( the deadly love at first sight, etc.), exercise PATIENCE in seaches for committed love, and work to have sound minds in sound bodies----we will tend to avoid broken hearts. Still, in spite of it all, it does happen. The tincture of time almost always does the trick, along with support from loved ones and clued counselors, if we work to avoid impatient rebound reentry into self made repeat misery. Not rocket science.

RE: Worst India flood storms in over century kill several hundred people and leave over 800,000 homeless

George Bush did it.

RE: Worst India flood storms in over century kill several hundred people and leave over 800,000 homeless

George Bush did it.

RE: Trump is proving America’s power through economic warfare

The tarrifs are widely misunderstood. Of course, on balance, they fly in the face of what many economists claim they know. But asside from pandering to his base, as almost all pols, our Brilliant Presidemt's related actions are purely tactical, hardly strategic. He's already begun negotiations back from the alleged abyss with EU-ers and Canadians. And Chinese trade negotiators are visiting in a few weeks. Yep folks, he's dumb, VERY dumb. Like a fox.

RE: It's official. Australians are the best men to meet.

Thanks, Biff. Will check out BC. Yes, sound advice in many places. When I lived in the BIg Easy, one Mardi Gras was plenty for similar reasons. Farm boys from Alabama who rarely left town would show up and make things interesting, VERY interesting.

Women and men....Females in traditional male roles....

Typical grounded, fair and clued comments Ladies. Thanks. In many respects, a farm life is most of what one needs to get on in life, and often a lot more, than those not so fortunate. And yes, women can do it well, but I'd agree that the gender learning curve might still be a bit steep. Yet I watched a lady mechanic while taking a friends's car for it's yearly inspection, and she didn't miss a single trick. And I just changed the timing belts on my vintage road machine, and retimed the engine, so I know what to look for. Dr. G., my octogenerian male Prostate expert, is better for my squeamish sensibilities than a female might be, but perhaps for the wrong reasons. We are in the same philosophy monthly discussion group, and early on I warned him about my preference for yearly prostate exams. Specifically, I don't want the type where the nurse or doctor has hands on both shoulders, and a big smile going, during the delightful proceedure.

RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST RECIPE IN YOUR STATE?

Thanks, Y. How could I forget to say one must boil the pasta till al dente as well. Getting old and forgetful.

RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST RECIPE IN YOUR STATE?

BTW, here on the cold ocean in Maine, many of us harvest our own fresh mussels when the tide is out. Right off the rocks and seaweed. No sand, few pearls, and fresh, fresh, fresh. Charity lobster bake today at noon by the bay.

RE: Pence's one man parade in honor of Trump (Satire from Andy Borowitz)

Well, JN. Of course you are correct. I agree that the money would be better spent directly on our wonderful vets. Alas, all pols pander and waste some money. But I like how our Brilliant Ivy League Grad President Trump donates his $400large each year salary. I think it's to vets and such, but I could be wrong.

RE: Serious Conversation

I know you religiously read and worship my rants, pK. Appreciate all the love and attention, Tovarish. So you will surely know I do criticize the United Snakes regularly where fair and appropriate. But if any plans for the tar and feather treatment exist, better rally forces more competent/equipped, and less corrupt, than those there. Even Spetsnaz had to return with tails between legs from their treatment by poor irregular farmers in Afghanistan. Much less so with our SEALS and other commandos. But don't just take my word for these things.

RE: Serious Conversation

BS. I agree with pK, who sounds like she is loosing hope. If I were a female, and lived there, I might as well. Brutal, drunken, east European men. Most with enabling mamacitas, one hears. But admitting honesty, or lack there of, to the world, is hardly enough for real change. For this, one needs self awarenes, and a real examination of our motives for our thoughts and actions. MOTIVES. And in the special case of women, a big dose of self esteem, where it's often at low levels. Fathers often contribute to this latter sad state of affairs.

RE: To the owners of this site: I am most grateful

Couldn't agree more, LJ. I've briefly tried a few pay sites, and a few that claim "free", but really aren't. This CS site really is free, and the adverts are not intrusive. The features are wonderful and fun. Easy to navigate and use. Very few suggestions for improvement, and they continuously do so on their own. Pics fromprofiles on Forums, as on Plogs, would help. I send them my thanks as well. Wish they would consider hiring me as a consultant. I'd do it for little. We'd bury other sites.

RE: Yet another Trump presidential campaign worker, working on behalf of the Russians

Yep, JN. Presidential Pardons. After another 6 years of our Briliant President Trump's MANDATE (220 districts, 30 states), and 8 of the much more grounded, admittedly, VP Pence, let's compare pardons with those of Hussein O. But a pardon for this crumb Mannafort only after some real time in the Big house, no?

Men or women...Belief in the deadly "love at first sight"...

Kiwi wisdom, KS. Almost as good as the lamb and white wines. Rotarua hot baths, Hiking in Franz Joseph Park, same fiords, 80 + miles of the world's best beaches. And much more. Should have applied for landed immigrant status when I was still desirable.

RE: "If you wish upon a star, doesn't matter who you are..."

JN. Eight inch reflector and binoculars on back deck provide this family and freinds tons of fun. Unpolluted, dark Maine coast. Our galaxy and other treats jump right out at ya. Prof. Alex Filippenko's course on astronomy in the teaching Company's -Great Courses set Is helpful. My second viewing now. Tends to place lot's of daily life (politics) in a bigger perspective. Not to be purchased---most libraries can get these on loan.

RE: Murder Rate Finally Plateaus In Chicago As Even Murderers Too Scared To Go Out At Night

Democrat run place, a wreck, as so many others. Whole democrat state nearly bankrupt. Corruption at every level, and unsustainable government worker pensions. Corupt unions. And aweful schools. Yep, democrat social welfare policies rock.
