RE: Things I Don’t Do Anymore

It's all DIY here. Well, apart from the car. And some of the work on the house. grin

The god of Christmas shopping

Yup I won't go into debt for Christmas either. Just back from the shops and a little annoyed at how the prices of some items have shot up mumbling

RE: Why can't I lose weight

Oh man are you going to be revving your engine over Christmas laugh

The god of Christmas shopping

Hmmm, Red, given the choice between a jolly old man and a scaly reptile from the depths of Loch Ness, I'd rather Nessie brought Santa to my room than the other way round blushing

The god of Christmas shopping

Red, I did notice on your blog you said you buy small gifts picked with thought and care for individuals, now that's not very in the spirit of Santa worship, you should be spending wayyyy more than you can afford on totally unsuitable stuff, you know scold

(But you are very in the spirit of Christmas, so that counts in your favour grin)

The god of Christmas shopping

Red you believe in Nessie too, you're a hopeless case laugh hug

The god of Christmas shopping

Bloody I bloody love you, you are the only one so far to stick to the point of the blog hug

The god of Christmas shopping

1to1to1 I think the santas would be top blokes to go drinking with rolling on the floor laughing no-one denies they are jolly christmas cool

The god of Christmas shopping

String, I think it's lovely that you see it as a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have.

It can seem to some that it's a fantastically expensive time of year when there is a lot of pressure to spend more money than usual on goods priced higher than usual, and all in the name of a rather ridiculous figure in a costume of pagan origin.

Exchanging presents when I was a kid was you gave and you got one each from parents and siblings, and lucky the child who had aunts, uncles and grandparents close enough to arrive bearing gifts.

The last family Christmas I went to (and I swore never again) included two flushed and over-excited kids ripping their way through close on forty presents, paper flying and their voices getting shriller and shriller until one went into complete hysterics. SANTA HADN'T BROUGHT THE BIKE WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Bad Santa.

gift

The god of Christmas shopping

Z, that's partly what puzzles me. How in blazes can he be running a workshop when he's dangling off balconies? And if he's got everything ready and closed the workshop, why do we still have to wait a couple of weeks? confused

The god of Christmas shopping

Mimi, I think the red envelope is a GREAT system! is it always money? do kids also get birthday and festive gifts? Do adults?

The god of Christmas shopping

Crest, I like Santa. I just don't think he exists.

I honestly suspect those prezzies under the tree came from my family and only stopped because I stopped being a good girl dunno

RE: The Bush Funeral Train...

Looking at that row of presidents in the service, I did think the train might be in use again fairly soon. uh oh

He's being very highly spoken of, was that eulogy-speak or was he really a highly-respected president?

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Red - gee, you move a lot? I never knew that rolling on the floor laughing I do know you like to do a place up when you move in so guessing you're a good tenant!

Merc, know you're talking to Molly but there's spotless and spotless, you don't come across as the type who jumps forward to plump up my cushion the minute I stand up, whisks away my glass to wash up when it's empty - I feel guiltily that I'm making the place untidy just by being there. uh oh I love my own place when it is spotless and immaculate, I just wish it would stay that way without so much work from me. Wish my relationships would, too.

Bogart I would have guessed wrong with you, then, I would have put you down as one who likes being unfettered smile

Molly, know you're responding to Merc, just sticking in my opinion (because I can grin) I personally relish blogs with as many points of view as possible which is exactly why the extreme political ones become so boring - agree agree agree disagree bash bash bash agree agree agree - blog dies from lack of input - sigh

And now I am off to write Christmas cards although I think I have left it too late to post to UK anyway. Tchah.

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Blue, are you one now looking for marriage or just having a nice low-maintenance guy in your life? I suspect most of us are by now emotional tenants rather than looking to buy into commitment laugh

RE: Mr. Trump.

Sorry Ample was still writing my comment when you posted yours. Charming, yes, all politicians are, I think. I have (briefly!) met Tony Blair (UK PM) Nelson Mandela (SA State President) and Bill Clinton (POTUS) and was dazzled by their incredible charisma. It sort of goes with the territory.

And giving away millions is very nice. Overshadowed unfortunately by things like charging very high prices for Trump venues to be used for charity events even when organized by one of his own sons. blues when that sort of detail gets out it completely destroys the good effect. Would be awful if it came to light that Bill Gates, for example, far from being a massive philanthropist, was in fact charging gigantic fees behind the scenes.

RE: Mr. Trump.

"Do you like him as a human being, a nice person, a good person, an honest person?"

Interesting that the replies so far from overt fans are
"how's Hillery (sic) doing"
"some quirks"
"better than hillary"
a political video
and a political comment.

So that's a no. But it also doesn't seem to matter. We've all long since given up on high-ranking politicians, right or left, having basic integrity and he is simply the most blatant and flamboyant example of what we now accept as normal - promoting cronies, abusing privileges, finger-pointing at others to distract from criticism, massaging data / statistics, and spin spin spin. They think we are too stupid to notice or matter, and I agree, we are. Or they wouldn't be in the positions they are.

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Daniela, RUN RUN RUN yikes

rolling on the floor laughing

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Molly, I am now going to nip off and make my house visitor ready laugh

There's usually a slightly panicky 'just a minute just a minute' shout to the door while I kick things out of sight ... uh oh and I do not like the kind of visitor who follows me uninvited into the kitchen help

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Molly, factually accurate as always, I was more trying to work out if there's any link between how one thinks of property as how one thinks of relationships. E.g. If you are a slob living in a rented wreck and planning to move on if the landlord complains, are you a good longterm romantic prospect

Having said that one of my best friends owns a house in semi-permanent chaos always needing patching and maintenance and my own house seems comparatively serene when I get back from a visit and yet she's absolutely brilliant at long-term happy relationships and I am not. So my own argument just shot itself in the foot laugh

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Mimi - I know you're a stayer, not a flitter. You'd be like, like, um, an estate agent, love looking at houses but your own place is well-looked after laugh

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Whoops ta you just did. Thanks!

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Daniela, ouch. Not met that type. My ex-husband moved back in with his parents when they were getting doddery and felt it gave his mother something to do to look after him laugh BUT he stayed put to the bitter end and had to take on more and more - including cooking, laundry, etc. So that was why my opinion.

I'm not sure whether a mommy's boy is better or worse than a man who hated his mother.

confused

Please give the benefit of your experience on the fixer-upper-who-didn't laugh

tenant or home-owner? does it make a difference?

Daniela, good comments!! handshake

Yup, those living at home will certainly be faithful partners, they don't like change. I think they'd expect a fair bit of looking after but at the same time, if they are staying with now-elderly parents, they'd be caring, seems to me.

As for your last bf, you can fill in a vital bit of data here! Did he maintain the relationship better than he maintained his fixer-upper?

RE: The best things in life are free

I love robins, had one in Scotland which would tap politely on the kitchen window when the birdfeeder was empty. I've never quite forgiven the cat for killing it, when I saw the corpse it was like being punched in the gut.

RE: Yesterday

Only me, or did your first paycheck feel like riches?

RE: A Secular Hymn

Harbal, I hadn't realized it was wet and perhaps even cold in your part of the world.

No wonder you are out of sorts. One forgets so quickly. comfort

grin cool dancing

RE: A Secular Hymn

A soft answer turneth away wrath debate sigh

I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want - it will even lend itself to Mimi's pie laugh reword this and then only Spice girl fans will have to smile weakly? smile

RE: Climate Change Is NOT The Problem.

I don't think we can fix climate change - the planet has gone through cycles for millenia. I think we could have fixed pollution and stopped fouling up our oceans and our air but hey - the governments we have nowadays aren't about to put people and futures ahead of profits. Not while people remain stupid enough to vote for and support the looters, and it seems the world is collectively stupid enough to do that.

RE: A Secular Hymn

Don't get too upset with me. I too sing 'while shepherds washed their socks by night' nearer Christmas.
