KN it sounds as though in UK and Ireland (and Europe) it was like the summers of childhood - good to have a belter to tuck under the belt for the youngsters to grow old and look back on
Imp, the person you're talking about isn't like Poms (Keepers to us, yeah?) - not quite, not yet.
But a lot of people have left as a result, even so.
So yeah, CS could be destroyed soon, because few bloggers want to draw fire onto themselves, or want to be bored to catatonia by the politics, many just shrug and go.
Crest, I agree with Korn. One determined troll can destroy a site eventually. CS blogging membership is dropping like a boulder right now due to one determined clique which insists they have dibs and the right of free speech and anyone who doesn't like it should leave.
One thing - the tradition of dressing up and knocking on doors comes directly from Scotland, where the guisers ('kids in disguise') have been knocking on doors for centuries.
The Americans brought pumpkins to the table, so to speak - original lanterns were carved out of neeps (turnips)
Sky-watching - I heard somewhere, I think on QI, that the ancient Greeks didn't have a word for the colour blue. So not a lot of daytime skywatching there, since Greek skies usually are blue
Apparently when they did refer to the sky they said it was bronze.
Daniela have you looked at Quora? it is mainly topical issues and HUGE and there you CAN filter by interests (and filter out the topics that are of no interest whatsoever, like most of the top 20 here) I've been on it a few years, it used to be quite complicated to use so I didn't bother much but it seems more user-friendly now.
Could you list the name in a way where the political insanity squad won't see it?
I went looking for another general blogging site last night because this is far beyond a joke now. I understand midterms are coming up in the US and don't think I can face being on here much longer. The only thing we could hope is that the trumpery sweep to overwhelming victory and explode with satisfaction so they never post again and sadly I don't think that is going to happen.
And yes that is a political comment and yes delete it by all means but perhaps you could pm me the other site so I can have a look. I like their thinking.
ouch, 3 YEARS? I'd sort of promised this rain to Fay but I'm sure she won't mind if I send some to you as well.
When I came here for a weekend in March 2016 Molly and I were accused of bringing our weather with us because it was not the warmest weekend (well, so the locals said, we found it pretty warm)
Empiezo a temer que he traído dioses escoceses de la lluvia conmigo.
See, I found a Jay Leno clip showing American schoolkids being quizzed on geography. One was asked which countries made up Great Britain. Not a clue. So he asked 'what language do they speak there?'
Er - British?
Can you say anything in British?
Er - no?
So they'd be asking you if you can face learning to speak Australian ...
Bogey, mid-dance the camera tripod fell in a puddle up to its middle and the camera isn't working very well now. Pity, because we were all dancing for you, there's a lass who wears leopardskin trousers and a tight t-shirt who was looking quite dramatic.
I seized the opportunity to teach a traditional gumboot dance (African dancing translated by goldmine workers) should have seen the local faces when I started the complicated slapping-the-boot bits -
Eks, when I got to Scotland I was blown away by how green and beautiful it was. Like you, it hadn't occurred to me how much rain that needed. Here is more of a khaki colour most of the time (although the flowers are gobsmackingly bright)
Choices, choices. Lush greenery or deep blue skies. Hmmmmmm.
Raining again
