Its an incremental thing. Its only a few things each day so its like- maybe tomorrow. But then after 46 days its like- I'm not going in there I'll go out for a pizza instead.
If you want a really good rooting, particularly with the dicots, take extra care of the root apical meristem. Another thing to avoid, is J-rooting, a common consequence of involving volunteers especially schoolkids.
The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced there needs to be a royal commission into it, headed by a panel of high court judges, and then the Governor General should apologise to the Queen for the incident.
