On "Meet me" and "Likes"

There are things you know and others you suspect. I prefer double checking to make sure my suspicions are justified. And even then I may not write about it.

Something tells me that long ago you probably have found an efficient way to limit the number of messages in your Mail inbox. But again: unless you confirm that, I cannot turn it into a statement.

RE: More men than women...

I kind of came to the same conclusion across the pond.
In a blog on the breakdown of female CS members over EU countries + UK, women over 40 were my target group. While you make selections of less than 5000, you get exact numbers. It worked out perfectly.
In a later blog aimed to these ladies to check on the number of blokes in those same countries, several selections went over 5000. Eventually I restricted the age range, listing only the number of men in their forties. (Unlike you, I selected all members, not just the new ones.)

RE: America is great, is there any place better?

On the Nomad capitalist channel, quite a lot of arguments are listed to have at least a dual citizenship allowing to easily settle outside the US.

You can also find many channels of ordinary US citizens having settled elsewhere (and not regretting having done so). Furthermore 'digital nomads' tend to cluster in countries with a more laid back lifestyle.

RE: Your habits will kill you – eventually. HOW many smokers died over 100??

"There are more old smokers than old doctors"... is what some statistics reveal.
But since there are far more smokers than there are doctors, other statistics indicate that the former don't prove anything.

RE: Profile photos

CS even allows going one step further than photos. It is possible to upload a vlog, where you can tell anything you are passionate about. It is less visible (as a tag in your profile, the same way as are blogs, forum comments, videos and more).

Avid classical guitar players find an enthusiast audience (as an example).

Profiling 2.0

Blogs get comments shortly after being published. For a while I thought that older blogs were not read any longer. However that doesn't seem to be the case. Older blogs get nearly as much attention as the newer ones. I can check this only for my own blogs, but there is little reason to assume that it is not anything general.
You can sort your own blogs by last-view-date, which will most likely confirm this particular phenomenon.

CS market share in different EU countries

For the record: all browsers stopped supporting Adobe Flash Player by end December 2020. winkdoh
As a result, all games and puzzles are inoperative since early Jan 2021.

To all ex-gamers: your high scores will be there until CS disables the games ...

CS market share in different EU countries

... obviously true, but the same ratio (only 10% to 15% active) applies for all countries. Imagine what remains in a large country with only a few hundred CS members in the (wide) target age range. Besides, I don't expect this 'activity ratio' to be higher among men.

RE: The Temporary Girlfriend

Quote 'Where I am is considered by many nationalities as a state of passage - a temporary residence; temporary job; temporary relationships until they have saved enough money to start their lives elsewhere. And with this mindset coupled with every humans' need to interact with other humans and form attachments, men need "temporary girlfriends." '

You write about living in a place where most people are on assignment and have a temporary residence. This really shapes perspective. Your nationality only plays a secondary role, in as far as it influences the attitude of any potential dating partners. Most of dating partners only set up for temporary relationships because that is their time horizon in Saudi Arabia. It also affects the locals, who only expect foreigners to leave as their assignment expires (whatever project they may have been involved in).

Whether you are living in Geneva (flooded by UN officials), Luxembourg (EU institutions and EU Court of Justice) or Brussels (EU, EC and NATO), you will find similar attitudes among expats on assignment and their interaction with the local population.

RE: The Tax System, Explained in Beer!

There will never be a fair income tax system, since won't ever be any agreement on what is fair.

However it it possible to conceive an easy income tax system and keep it unchanged over decades.

When blending a social policy with an income tax system, that tax system will inevitably tend to become ever more complicated and be perceived as unfair, with everybody having his own specific objections.

They must be juvenile twins.

RE: The problem of fake profiles and copied photos and how to test them

When finding the same photo online, it can be the same person having enlisted on several dating platforms.
Checking some extra details on personal data and the content of the narrative is vital.

if nevertheless the profile is fake, it is at least consistent: all narrative and data have been copied.

RE: physics political humor

When invoking the Heisenberg principle on Trump, you need finding two variables which cannot be measured exactly at the same time. The product of the uncertainties then has a minimum value.
Example: the interval between two lies in a Trump speech and the fraction of people having noticed both.
If he repeats the same lie, people actually listening will notice. If in between two blatant lies, Trump slips in a less obvious one, that may remain unnoticed by more listeners.

RE: Meeting someone from abroad

Some stats, Llabar, just might change your opinion:
In Ireland with about 5 million of inhabitants, CS now counts 3255 female members 40 and above.
In Brazil with close to 210 million of inhabitants, CS only counts 289 female members 40 and above.
In Ireland the 'market share' of CS is near a global maximum, as far as I know second only to Malta.
So consider yourself lucky living in Ireland: you have a fair chance of meeting a local CS date.
People elsewhere generally have a hard time doing so. They will more often encounter some of the difficulties you are describing while trying to find a date abroad.

Commercial 'dating sites' multiply by cloning

'Management' not only knows what's happening, they are fostering fake profiles with generating revenues from paid messages being the only goal. Fake profile operators get a percentage on the web traffic they generate. So recruiting fake profile operators is vital and they may bring their fake profiles along.

RE: confused

Some people like to fantasize, taking the virtual world for a stage and themselves as the actors.
I very seldom enjoy the play though. Usually, dull people are not very much inspired in designing their fake identity.

The Mathematics of Love

The relationship equation actually is included in the presentation (near the end), when Hannah is discussing the odds for divorce.

The word 'ludicrous' was intentional, since Hannah is including seemingly nonsensical examples that are mere consequences of the theory of how long to wait for Mr. Perfect. For example: "Dear husband, you"re marginally less boring than the first 37% of men I dated".

That's why someone (not encumbered by prior knowledge and/or mathematical skill) might also take her for a mathematically talented stand-up comedian.

BTW, the 37% = exp(-1) struck me as very plausible without even bothering how the result is derived.

Thanks for the other links.

RE: The L word

There's no single 'good' answer to your question. Let's consider two extreme cases, anything in between being possible.

If a guy says he loves you, he might be inclined to declare this feeling rather lightly: if he feels attracted and is ready and inclined to start a relationship. Either he may be desperately in love with you and yet hopelessly waiting for the 'right circumstances' as to the how and when to declare his feelings.

In the former case, responding favourably to his 'L' word is an emotional trap, leading to a relation with little long term perspective. doh
In the latter your taking the lead may be a relief for your date and failing to do so might even jeopardize a relationship with life-time perspective. hug
