RE: Regression

Mind you it must sound ironic to describe an age of discipline as Trump and the people who like him. No, I think the coming age of discipline will be a cross between the way things are today in the same way that the 1950s was a cross between Weimar Germany and the Somme Generals. It won't be quite like Trump or the liberals today who are like Weimar.

RE: Regression

You can be right about climate change and still lose. Why? Because you'll lose to the fact that the world be a less hospitable place to live. You can be right about the causes but the result will work against you.

A minor example of this lockdown and the pandemic. Might be liberals who supported the lockdown but lockdown and the result will get LGBT folks beaten up. The cost of living crisis will itself go against you even though you did it. You would have given LGBT a better chance by protecting the economy, protecting the young, at the expense of old age security. It's an irony that by accident conservatives would serve LGBT folks better than the liberals did by design.

RE: More people with this mindset equals

And sometimes just to be different and oh so interesting when you know who could do with more of this? Russia. Vodka isn't the answer to all of life's problems and you couldn't be ordered to invade your neighbors if you had any of your own enthusiasm, enthusiasm and zest for life. Be a bit more like the nation of children that is America than your own old dead man country frozen in ice.

RE: Depressing and Judgmental.

First and foremost it's the not being where you want to be in life. People being mean to you is, well, it depends who is being mean to you. Tough love is supposed to be the spur for getting you where you want to be in your life although I know that's often not the reason why people are mean. Often the reason is that they too are not where they want to be in their life.

It depends. The deeper your relationships with other people, the more that the other cares about you, the more that tough love is cruel to be kind. A true friend stabs you in the front etc. And certain people will stab you in the front because they were raised this way. Would rather you dislike me and be happy than be miserable and in your favourites. But in a context of low trust people would rather see you dead in a ditch than have you see them as mean. You have to judge each case on its merits.

RE: Not Sure If I'm Confused

And actually this million little niches is one reason why I do this here. Everybody wants to date, and this website goes back to the early days of the internet, and I know you're all pretty old but this is still a relatively libertarian cross-section of society a comparatively random group where you can still encounter the unexpected.

The more modern internet is becoming much more streamlined, compartmentalized. Particularly when they're not looking for love. Reddit is a certain type of person to the exclusion of all others. Preselection is overriding the random chance of real life and real people and that's the answer to why people are becoming more extreme. Not to pick on reddit specifically, it's just an example.

RE: Thinking without deciding

Two lodgers before, both friends of mine or the family and now not friends. Not so bothered about the toilet paper, but an incredibly wasteful and long-winded way of making a bacon sandwich? I can't live with that, especially when they never go out for fun seemingly content to spend the rest of their life indoors making a bacon sandwich.

RE: Tucker Carlson releases Jan. 6 footage, politicians, media lied about Sicknick, 'QAnon Shaman'

And I feel sorry for the police and for BLM. Ultimately whose call was it to put all the innocent black people in jail? Yet they remain immune all of the media and the lawyers in politics deflect all blame away from those who persecuted black people more than anyone. Why is it that the judiciary are so overrespected like a 14th century Catholic church?

RE: Tucker Carlson releases Jan. 6 footage, politicians, media lied about Sicknick, 'QAnon Shaman'

And I always thought there was something off about the tyranny of the judiciary, in a system of checks and balances there isn't one to check against that authority. They make up their own rules and then may or may not follow them. Ultimately no one to answer to but themselves, calling them your honour is a reflection of us as an utterly ignorant, backward medieval people who don't say a word against these tyrants.

RE: Happy Birthday to ...............lindsyjones

Am I missing something or is this just thoughtless well-wishing?

RE: Tucker Carlson releases Jan. 6 footage, politicians, media lied about Sicknick, 'QAnon Shaman'

With that much data it's easy to make up any story that you, me or anybody else wants. This is an age of information nobody said anything about understanding any of it, the understanding would perhaps come later if we survive the next 30 years of what we now call the experience age.

RE: Americans that are not afraid of Truth... I SALUTE

And the empowered women amount to not a lot of resistance because it doesn't change anything. Whatever the law is, even if it's disgusting, law-abiding is more likely to be her, whatever the government is or does she's going to back it. Exactly the same here as it is in Russia.

RE: Americans that are not afraid of Truth... I SALUTE

And it's interesting to see how education changes through this period of 60/70 years good fortune. In the 1950s and 60s university taught baby boomers to rebel, but this is now inverted. You don't go to university to get a degree relevant to the real world, you go to university to protect you from real world conditions in a protracted childhood. University I suppose is more like welfarism now it does not make you fit for the job it makes the status quo harder to resist. It's not just makework for fake teachers, it's insurance for the posh spaz authorities.

RE: Americans that are not afraid of Truth... I SALUTE

My concern with the young blood is that it won't give youth a future it will encourage the youth to change gender so that real power rests elsewhere. The weirdry to deflect from something that hasn't happened in centuries - a worse life for the kids. Not many people in the western world know how anything works that's the outcome of not being able to lose for 70 years. Now is the time to learn the hard way.

RE: Americans that are not afraid of Truth... I SALUTE

Young blood would be itself divisive. What would a leader do to give youth a future? Slash pensions, raise the retirement age, and treat covid like a bad flu right from the start. Bulldoze every other university and replace them with a trade school, do away with the old ways where you take a degree in art for a job in accounts so as to provide work for fake teachers.

Why talk about politics on a dating site? Because it's the closest thing to the pub, the closest thing to the cross-section of society even if it is stupid and full of keyboard warriors

RE: Thinkers & Fighters

Yes and I think that's why things worked well after the world wars. Everybody that bit more rounded and the whole of society levelled. But that's not the way it is now that we are educated to pass an exam and get a job afterwards. Things have to be compartmentalized until we travel hundreds of miles to be around people precisely like ourselves, 50 hours a week. Less of the fighting and trying to sound like an intellectual that you get down the pub. The pub takes the edge off even when the thinkers just sit in the corner rating the alcopops. There's a lot to be said for sharing the same space with people you didn't pick

RE: MMMMM has atheist blog

In other words slow and steady wins the race as far as modernity and atheism are concerned. The stalinists and the neoliberals were both wrong to believe that if you copy an advanced society and paste it in the sticks this will create a modern world. Education, education, education... this is necessary but not sufficient. It does not happen within a generation it happens over the generations, the apple never falls far from the tree therefore the only way to get very far is slowly. One tree after another tree after another tree, it's the only way to evolve.

RE: MMMMM has atheist blog

And the environment. By sweating the east instead of equipping the west we have trashed the natural world all these developing countries developing too quickly whilst we stagnate. Even if we prove global warming scientifically and what could be done about it, the much more inhospitable environment will have people believing in a god anyway. Hyper-industrialisation damages so much that it will not lead to Star Trek at all

RE: MMMMM has atheist blog

Everybody suspects the atheists, even the other atheists.. apart from in our country. In one country and one country alone does the hope of someone thinking reasonably outweigh the fear of god. It must be because we were the first to industrialize and I think it proves that modernity works out a lot better when you give these things time. Actually second nature to trust an atheist more, to believe that reason is preferable to the fear of god. The militant atheist states, the hyper-industrializing states, these are well on their way to becoming a fascist cleric in the 21st century. You have to give these things time.

RE: mutual understanding in relationship

If you don't have anything nice to say, try saying nothing. But on the other hand try to avoid being patient when it's for a negative reason, the silent treatment is not what we want.

RE: Is gouging ending?

The pensioners might benefit from interest rates going through the roof because they're capitalists and not workers. But I contend that you would not enjoy this for very long. We are a society and people are human, we must resist the idea that if you punch a people very hard in the face this will turn them into a fully-functioning capitalist economy. That didn't work in Russia nor in eastern Europe. We need more imagination than this

RE: Is gouging ending?

Third option - hike interest rates through the roof and make it pay to keep money in the bank. I'd call that the nuclear option to have interest rates higher than the rate of inflation. So long as it's lower than inflation, saving money is for fools the logical thing to do in inflation is spend as fast as you can fuelling inflation until that money is gone.

RE: Is gouging ending?

And I don't think inflation will end anytime soon, but slowly reduce. Two things need to happen, firstly a good peace in Ukraine and secondly when the record rate of household savings acquired during the pandemic have been exhausted. Until this time people pay these funny prices with that funny money.

RE: Is gouging ending?

Greed but also uncertainty, and perhaps some greed is because of uncertainty if you don't think you'll be okay you will build a hedge against disaster in the form of higher profits/higher prices.

As for budget stores these will be the most impacted by inflation. Vanity doesn't suffer through inflation but if what you're selling is at cost, and costs go up, then prices will go up more with proportion.

RE: Vanishing Blogs

And although it be private the internet was successful because it treated like international waters.

And we're going to love this next bit. People who belong with an abacus trying to regulate cyberspace. A great new field of sheep trying to use an iPhone, a situation where anybody in authority with a shred of intelligence or integrity would resign knowing that they're a sheep trying to use an iPhone.

RE: Vanishing Blogs

I've heard the internet described as the new town square.. but it isn't public property, is it?

It's all private property and it's not the land, so what's the law of the land? Nothing. This industrial revolution comes with it's own ways which supercede the law of the land and the very idea of a government accountable to the public. Things that happen now just happen to us, like every industrial revolution that came before, it'll be decades until the human race understands what's happening to it with a governing class competent to govern. We go back to the days of Oliver Twist and Scrooge, everything is private and more than this it's beyond the comprehension of the average person. The state is now effectively privately owned and the new world understood by almost no one.

RE: Electric SUV's...

The bible reads like the ramblings of a drugged horse if you judge the lines as written. It contradicts itself endlessly to look at it logically. It can only be accepted as the word of god, god can do and say whatever he likes.

RE: Electric SUV's...

The connection is the type of person who concerns themselves with covid and electric vehicles. Whatever the mainstream believes is wrong. Particularly if you believe in a god because people who believe in god are authoritarian, and to be authoritarian is to trust the teller not the tale. You take it on good authority, or you reject it on bad authority, you do NOT judge case on its merits. You accept it on faith or not as the case may be. Is the authority deemed worthy or unworthy? Worthy superior right, unworthy superior wrong.
