I don't trust the grocery stores "organic" labels since it drives up the price. I do however trust my own garden where I use soapy water or vinegar to fight bugs and disease and make my own fertilizer.
I'm not sure if I would like Hagis or not. I've never tried a liver spread but I like liver and onions fried.
Smarter cars are coming Jim. I don't think the caddy has DRL a feature but I wouldn't be surprised if it does and I am not aware. I never touch a switch as the lights come on when I start and shut them selves off when I stop.
Absolutely paradise in Central Florida right now. May be a bit chilly in the early morning but the today time will be sunny and warm. I'm loving every minute of it.
I'm growing my first garden of many years away from planting in the earth. I'm getting tomatoes now, kale, collards, bok choy, parsley and other plants that haven't come to fruit yet. Silly me I forgot to tag what I planted so I had to wait for it to bloom to know what I have. I ate all my radishes already. The tomatoes are so much better than store bought. Also I planted in the wrong season. Now it's time to plant for the summer crop.
I'm learning as I go and by trial and error.
I'm making my compost from left over veggie matter. I also save coffee grinds and crushed egg shells that I just throw on top of soil for fertilizer. The plants seem to love it.
I used the home I live in now as a vacation home when I lived in Orlando, I ended up with two of everything as well. Two coffee makers, two vacumns, two set of dishes, pots & pans, etc. The place is so big, having two of everything makes for convenience.
When I lived in Orlando it was awesome to decide to come to Tampa on a minute's notice and not have to pack anything. All I had to do is throw the little dog in my purse and drive, the Tampa home was good to go for the weekends. Loved it! Still feels a bit sur-real to finally be living in my Tampa home.
At 68 I am thinking differently now that I get to see the longevity of my folks and their siblings who have passed. Every decade seems to take it's toll on the body, something we don't think about when we are young. I'm not sure I want to live into my 90's if my body or mind is going to fail me like it is my parents.
I don't see a quality of life for my Dad. Sure he is in a nice house and has worn out his spot on a comfortable couch where he seems to live and only gets up to eat or go to a doctor's appointment. That is too sad on my heart. I watch his mind shrink every day making me want to make sure my children don't get to see me in that condition.
I would like to be able to vote to die with dignity if I get diagnosed with a debilitating disease.
It's hard to complain about the cold in Florida. I think we are on a 4th day in a row of it being cold enough to wear a light jacket. If I go to complain about the cold I then see what cold really is on the news or blogs and realize I have nothing to complain about.
Don't move to Florida because there is already enough snowbirds here. That's in my bucket list, I want to become a snow bird someday.
I haven't come across boredom since I've retired. I have slowed my pace a bit, stopping to smell my roses but I keep finding things or activities to do. Some of the new activities surprises me because my age caught up with me and I can't do all that I thought I could as well. But boredom...not at all.
I can't wait for the finished picture! What a DiY guy you are, very impressive. Is your wife working at your side just as hard?
My daughter-in-law is fixing up a mini mansion (looks like it in the pics). She took a video of her tearing up a tile floor. What a horrendous job. I can see the open studs without drywall. At least she isn't going to hang her own drywall - she contracted it out.
Having second thoughts about Condo living? Your committed to at least a year and that flies by.
Great blog. I remember drinking water out of the hose in the yard long before bottled water. Giant black and white tvs with tiny screens and only 3 channels that went off the air at midnight.
Chat when I lived in an apartment, it was near the staircase and inevitably I would hear people coming home when the bars closed to stomp up and down the stairs. Living next to the stairs was very annoying.
When you get a chance call me and let me tell you about another option you might want to research too.
RE: The Condo...
Isn't this the year of the pig? Oh that just made me want some pork belly. See I can always ask for more.
