RE: In the year 2525.

Indeed 1984 was a warning, but Wisconsin seems to be ahead of St. Louis. Tickets are not paid at the time given and most are reduced by lawyers to non-moving violations. There are more banks than 10 years ago and that seems odd due to the depression. The stores (those that remain) carry more nonsense and less of what you want so Amazon is making a fortune.

RE: The land grab is on.

Yes,feudalism is on its way back. Democracy is its anthem.
What the Founding Fathers set up was a democratic republic (a term now defiled by many Communist states). That was a government where representatives were elected by the people to make decisions on the basis of their character.
There's never been a Democracy. Athens had an unvoting population 50% slave and 50% female, so at best 25% could vote. A true Democracy would have everybody voting on things they know nothing about, since getting such knowledge is a full-time job.
In our case the majority is controlled by the mercenary Media.

RE: True crime is not healthy for my mental health..

It sometime seems like true crime is the only thing on TV, now that it's mostly (cheap to make) "reality" TV.

RE: Russians begin to notice China reclaiming what is China's

I don't even know where in Russia or in China you're talking about. The title conflict with what seems to be the content.

RE: Is Covid making a comeback?

I don't think it's a hoax anymore than I think our Flood on '93 was a hoax. It was certainly a 100-year event bigger than seasonal. However, I do think that something like Omicron was already in China at the time and that the old academics gathered around Wuhan gave it a chance to go back to an earlier more virulent form. Something the other academics have had a field day with regarding papers and their general influence. The damage that they've done outweighs the disease.

RE: Ukraine warns of blockade

rasPutin tried to increase his legacy to the Russian people. He attacked while the US President was a weak person. He forgot how that plays. Europe responded and weak Democratic presidents always support Western Europe. He has done a major disservice to his country and is lucky it hasn't gone to WW III. It would be a short war and the end of Russia, a large part of which would end up Chinese.

"Just one shot to my estranged husband's knee cap was all it took." Shawn, your post lacks coherence.

RE: What habits can lead to significant increase in lifespan?

I happen to agree with you about the smoking, though I only tried cigarettes once . I smoke an occasional pipe (black Cavendish called Captain Black). The quality of life is far more important than the quantity.
Thing is, science already made time a dimension (if not more than one). That means we're all immortal, like it or not. The quality of the days we add to the conglomerate we already have is more important that the expanse we create.

RE: DARK WATERS

Sorry, I only watched your Trailer as posted; and, you're right, it's not my type of movie. Movies are entertainment. Propaganda is not that, it's the other WMD of WWII. Doesn't matter who puts it out, now that the Mass Media dictate but it isn't worth watching.

RE: DARK WATERS

The system is not rigged, it's chaotic and dysfunctional. The academics are, however, rigged by their group think. I guess I shouldn't bother, but I do get bored.

RE: Is there a God?

Given that time is a dimension of time-space (or more than one), there is no creator. That does not mean that time-space can't be dependent on God as Catholic theologians say. After all, what does it mean that a certain rock exists and no one is observing it?
Yes, that means I don't believe in the Big Bang. Neither did the guy that named it that. Local space as far as we can observe is expanding. That doesn't mean there was a time when it was all in one place. We can't see all or even much of it or we could see the past.
Having admitted there is a God, I will also state he doesn't play favorites. Nor does He enjoy hymns of praise. How vain and human.

RE: "The Matrix"

I did say I have to realize it's a dream. I expect you've at least terminated a dream on that basis. And then there are all those dreams you didn't wake up from and therefore forgot. We really remember very few of our dreams.

RE: "The Matrix"

Phillip Jose Farmer also wrote a short story about traveling sideways in time. It describe a farmer turning into a lizard man. Wish I could remember the name of that one. It's not accurate but explains the idea quite well.

RE: "The Matrix"

I can sometimes redirect my dreams, can't you.

RE: "The Matrix"

It's not much use saying it that way. Time is a "dimension," so things do exist at different times (locations).
To return to the OP, Could there be an illusion so real it could be considered real--I suppose so. Our computers aren't even close. Dreams do not qualify; if the question occurs while I'm dreaming, I always recognize it's a dream and adjust it.

RE: Its Bad Driving Where I Live

You have to be kidding. They stopped making the original beetle because it didn't have air conditioning.

RE: Making plans for the USA! (part 9!)

After a long crew duty days (ours often ran 24 hours in C-5a's out of Travis AFB on the trip back from Yakota), there was a snag. Leaving the base to go home I had to drive into the sun. That resets the biological clock big time. Try to avoid the rising sun if you expect to sleep.

RE: Bakhmut has fallen.

So Putin has come out openly in favor of the "People's Republic of Donetsk." The tin-plated dictator is now openly back to Communist.
This directly reflects on who you are, too.

RE: Finding a date is hard - so I am giving up.

AgentBob doesn't bother to make sense. I suspect druggies mix topics less freely. He is talking only to himself.

RE: Extra terrestrial communication.

I think the Fermi Paradox is a false dilemma. There is a Godilocks Zone for solar systems, there may be one for the galaxy. In which case it's not billions of planets spawning intelligence in all directions, but only right and left along our orbit of the galaxy at our distance. And civilizations rise and fall. The more advanced the fewer traces they leave (the Roman roads are still there, the ones in New York won't be in 100 years). A solar flare like the one in 1859 could remove this satellite and computer based culture in the time it takes people to starve. How may times could that be happening out there?

RE: Speaking lies for power!

Thanks for the example.

RE: Speaking lies for power!

Emoticons are even a poorer means of communications than Chinese glyphs, except to the Chinese.
On the other hand, Agent Bob rarely makes sense, or even a close approach to it.

RE: Targeted ads.

Interesting point. The ads love themselves so much they forget to say who they're for. I've seen several TV ads that I have no idea what company they were supposed to be selling for--missed the beginning.

RE: Targeted ads.

I have ads blocked as well as cookies. It causes problems of it's own.
I will eventually find out how to block the sites that require cookies being selectable from my computer.
I also keep track of the idiots with me and names that never lived here on their mailing lists. I'll never do business with them.
Business admin and salesmen rule the world. What you want is that world where at least the idea was to take pride in what you make and where traders tried to transport and provide useful things. Even the idea is long gone.

RE: Pillsbury Doughboy Is Dead

I thought Mrs Butterworth and Aunt Jemima predeceased him.

RE: You wanna remake a network, you gotta break a few eggs…CNN fires Brian Stelter

Agreed. It's doubtful the damage to this nation can be fixed.

RE: Has technology played a role in the dissolution of the traditional family...

Your points are valid but I don't think they're the main problem. The nuclear family was maintained by the expanded family. Physical mobility (as opposed to upward mobility) has destroyed the role of grandparents and cousins in most cases.

RE: What would you like written on your gravestone?

It's been a long time since I existed on Taiwan or in Vietnam or Thailand or England. Now I don't exist here in this space-time. No big deal.

RE: Missing a 44 mph pitch

" to pitch the frame" in baseball? And a change-up was not unusual in the old days.

RE: A Big Thank you to Donald Trump and his Government for Keep in The Peace In The World

Democrats and dictators often need a war to stay in power.
