RE: Songs I don't get tired of hearing...

... but of course the first version I heard was that of Lead Belly ... his timing is a bit weird, often gets ahead of himself, same in Jean Harlow!

RE: Songs I don't get tired of hearing...

Of course it was pete seeger, but I'd much rather listen to Durham's cover anytime!Don't worry, I won't be posting Little Boxes (which wasn't his song anyway) or anything else ticky tacky. Here's a song associated with Seeger, The Weavers, and Johnny Cash: Rock Island Line performed by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee

RE: 1 more obscure blog...about the number of the beast

On the other hand 6 in mathematics is one of the very few known 'perfect numbers' where the sum of the divisors is twice the number, 1+2+3+6 = 2*6, 1+2+4+7+14+28=56=2*28
Don't forget 42, the answer from Hitchhiker's Guide, and 22 from Catch 22

4 has the same sound as 'death' si

RE: Songs I don't get tired of hearing...

Here's a favourite Chinese poem and musical arrangement - Ouran: By Chance
Studied by millions of Chinese high school students, but that in no way makes it less moving or meaningful.

I am a cloud in the sky,
By chance casting a shadow on the ripples of your heart!
You should not/Don’t be surprised,
Nor should you be overjoyed.
I will soon vanish without a trace.
You and I met in the dark sea;
You have your direction and I have mine.
Remember if you will,
Better yet if you forget
The spark we exchanged in our encounter.

The pinyin probably won't come out, given the text limitations here:
Wo shì tiankong li de yipiàn yún,
ou'er tóuying zài ni de bo xin!——
Ni bùbì yà yì,
gèng wúxu huanxi
zài zhuan shùnjian xiaomièle zongying.
Ni wo xiangféng zài heiyè dì haishàng,
ni you ni de, wo you wo de fangxiàng
ni jìdé ye hao
zuì hao ni wàngdiào
zài zhè jiaohuì shí hù fàng de guangliàng!

RE: here is one that is a bit obscure

I like the Chinese for 'night owl', ye maozi (night cat), and the words for owl, maotouying (cat head eagle). I too am a yemaozi

RE: Why Liberals (And not-so liberals) are against President Trump.

Bite you? Nah! You'd probably smell and taste of marmite! It's a curious fact that Kiwis eat marmite and aussies eat vegemite. Milo however is popular in both NZ and AUS but most popular of all in Malaysia. Who can account for market tastes.

RE: Is COVID on the rise...

a dome? Hemisphere? How would one account for Summer in Australia and Winter in Canada with such a model, I wonder. Or polarity and gravitational fields. No doubt flat-earthers have workarounds, but I am definitely never going to ask, just as I never ask about the logistics and administration of heaven or hell.

The hunstman spider - every master bedroom in Sydney will have one upside down on the ceiling directly over the bed at one time or amother. Somewhat off-putting when amorous things are afoot.
Despite nightmares, never has one fallen in my bed at least.

but if you speak fair Spanish, as you probably do (though jumbled into spantaglish) you can perhaps get away with claiming European

RE: Is COVID on the rise...

... moreover, were I to hear a practising doctor express such opinions, I would consider reporting them to the Medical Association for unprofessional practice.

RE: Is COVID on the rise...

The sentences are ambiguous since the pronoun can refer either to doctors or those in the front line but I read it correctly, and the implication is 'at least a substantial number, none of whom had an opposing opinion'. It is possible 2 may have had such non-scientific biassed views but beyond that beggars belief. Doctors read the journals and know the statistics. Perhaps they were quacks, unqualified, or homeopathists self-titled as doctors, she doesn't specify that either. I believe qualified practitioners would not make make such absurd claims.

RE: Chris Christie... He's dropping out.

Division is the way of democracy worldwide, just more pronounced in US

RE: Is COVID on the rise...

Someone here, no need for names, claims that doctors stated more died from treatment (presumably vaccination) than died from covid-19 itself. Of course that is totally absurd. Moreover it is outright dangerous to say so, and where it causes someone to reject vaccination, may result in death.
There have been about 25000 deaths here, and apparently according to these amazing coal-face specialists 14 > 25000. The CS member swallows her own nonsense hook-line and sinker, and seems to encourage non-vaccination. I wonder if her house or car are insured, because 'the insurance is sure to cause accidents and fires' would seem to be her logic.
In referring to treatment one might consider the consequences of isolation, and that may well have resulted in many deaths amongst the elderly, lack of attention, isolation from family and society, depression and suicide. At a guess I'd suppose such causes outweigh negative vaccine events 1000-fold.

RE: Name that classic TV Show.

This discusses the impact it had in Australia, and in Australia alone! Note the Shakuhachi

RE: Name that classic TV Show.

Shintaro was a big star here in Australia, but I never saw it in colour.

RE: Name that classic TV Show.

Coronation Street has played for 63 years - it's well over 50 since I last saw it round about 1969

Ah, along with the emerging of new covid variant waves, a certainty is that the anti-vaxxers anti-science will come crawling out. Heads in sand? In fact numbers statistics and irrefutable evidence.

RE: Is COVID on the rise...

What you say of every single doctor is simply unbelievable, What you think you heard are your truth, but your opinions on covid treatment and vaccination are just nonsense, whether you actually believe what you write or not. I do not believe you, and don't believe you are so misguided as to believe your own words either.

If your version of what ALL doctors say has an ounce of truth (very dubious) then I claim, yes I do. Basically I totally disbelieve your claims.
