RE: Hundreds of Dead People In My County Voted By Mail: What A Coincidence! All Democrats!

At least the comments got rid of the putrid pidgin English on your profile, that was really sticking in my craw.

I suppose you forget, since you change description and location quite often, that your location comes up as ultimately Australia / Oceania? God knows of course where you really are, and at least you enjoyed your moment of delight thinking someone had made a mistake.

You saying the pot calling the kettle black was interesting. That idiom is not one a native English-speaker would have used in that context. It would only be relevant if I was pretending to be something I wasn't living somewhere I wasn't and consistently and permanently fake. Like yourself.

RE: Flu season...

Many countries do adopt masks and precautions every year against flu anyway, especially for commuters. They're the ones doing better now, as it happens. There are several strains of flu and every year the doctors have to estimate, on earliest indications, which is going to be the most virulent for the coming winter, and that's the shot they give. When they're wrong, and another strain takes hold, it is a bad flu year. The shots do offer a degree of protection against the others.

Flu is debilitating and can turn into pneumonia but is treatable, Covid19 is a problem because it can turn into viral pneumonia, which doesn't respond to modern medicines. So those calling it nothing more than flu are both right and wrong. Flu with killer teeth.

It has taken 6 months to finally catch up with a person I know who has had a real bout. She's a friend since childhood, felt ill, was tested, was completely bedridden at the height of it but never bad enough to need hospitalisation. She's said the worst part was the hammering to her system, way beyond normal flu ennui, five weeks later she's finally starting to feel normal instead of dragging herself around like an exhausted sack of cement.

Do you know that scares me more than the tiny statistical chance of needing a ventilator? I'm not a crackling powerhouse of energy at the best of times but my life is quite demanding. uh oh

RE: Bans on alcohol and tobacco products lifted in SA

RE: Robert Trump... RIP

I'm guessing that his brother either forgot to add cause of death or is hoping against hope that some reporters will start trumping up the story that it was covid, then he can shout fake news. I have to say I am personally at saturation point and could cope with the news the entire family AND anyone sharing the same surname had mysteriously and permanently disappeared off the face of the planet.

However, my sympathies to anyone who is distressed by the news, grief is never easy. sad flower

RE: That new car smell...

You can buy a spray called 'New Car Smell' and it does smell like new leather laugh

But reading the comments, I see your car's problem was way, way beyond a spray comfort

Letting off steam and poking at the media

Last comment - I saw a video on FB of a black woman dashing about with a bucket of black paint spilling it on the road. Oh good, another vandal. yawn

Next

Then I noticed the FB contact who posted it was a known T man, very right-wing. The post seemed approving. WTH?

I guess any Americans reading this will know what it is about, something to do with a sign painted in front of Trump Towers and this black lass taking issue and getting a lot of support from the approving right.

I realized then an important fact. You can be any colour you like. You can do any amount of vandalism. The important thing is the way the media presents your case.

Well that's nicely straightforward anyway. Rules can be broken if the cause is right. Wait, and lo, the media will point unto you the right Path of Thought.

THAT's a timesaver.

Letting off steam and poking at the media

The blog wasn't really about Truth versus Absence Of Truth - that's why I started with the word porkies. Little lies, often just for effect. To please a friend. To attract a following. Say what people want to hear, and those people may listen the next time you speak. But uh oh they are listening to others as well. So you have to ensure that what you're saying is more - dramatic.

Before long, if you're public, you'll find your drama pleases lots of people. Ironically the more of a show you put on, the more likely you are to lose the first listeners. Doesn't matter. More where they came from. Our media, world over, have identified their core audiences down to the last button, and a bigger audience which will tune in if there's a good show.

I personally think it a pity nobody agrees that a little straight reporting, where we the recipients are given all the facts and allowed to decide what we think of it, would be amazing. I'm not surprised, of course. The media has it right and will do all your thinking for you, and entertain you in the process, what a BARGAIN.

Never seen the movie, Mick, do you recommend it?

Letting off steam and poking at the media

Mick, if there isn't a movie where the media get their noses rubbed in their lies like unhousetrained puppies, plus a whack with a newspaper (nice topical touch there) THAT's the movie we have to write.

typing

Letting off steam and poking at the media

Zman, why check what you type? The newspapers don't bother ... very mad

Maybe we should set up a CS team, one person spots an out-and-out porky, we all in the task force complain. Ten or so of us - yeah probably won't help much.

sigh

Letting off steam and poking at the media

Fargo can't help you out there, mate. The only tethered weather balloon I know of is otherwise bonza. snooty

Chat smitten I do like a man with a bit of upholstery laugh

OldeGuy visiting a comic convention online sounds a brilliant idea yay don't tell anyone but I'd go to a star trek convention if ever one was near me. I wouldn't dress up but I'd go. Trekkies is trekkies.
Well - I maybe wouldn't dress up. Green bodypaint, tops. uh oh

Merc that was such a very diplomatic comment rolling on the floor laughing wine

RE: I want to hear from other introverts

There are few true introverts and few true extroverts. You're a mix of both like most of us because a true introvert couldn't have even thought of writing this blog.

Go forth and enjoy yourself laugh

RE: Alcohol...

Eish, I hope this stage passes and the bans lifted before you get to that rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Alcohol...

Two good friends - both smokers and one does enjoy a glass of wine now and again. So they are not happy campers laugh

RE: Alcohol...

Lafonda you never have so much as a glass of wine? wow

I do with friends, and the occasional shandy, even had a beer a week or so back (I have no minor vices grin) but I would very much object to being told that because of the virus I was not allowed to drink at all. I see absolutely no connection between the two.

RE: Alcohol...

I heard about that comfort so unfair, the move back to stopping sales of alcohol, slapping on a curfew, no beers for you bro go fret about the future while you have a nice cup of tea. Jawellnofine.

The screams of rage if it happened in the US or UK would reach space ...

There's hoarding and hoarding - I hope you had a few emergency six-packs stacked away, or a bottle or two of wine, and don't start eyeing the santizer uh oh

RE: What Happened To Waterbeds?

The weight, mainly, I think, and the fuss of changing the water.

Plus, for me, I wasn't that keen on sleeping on the things. It gets silly when you need a bed to play on and then another bed to sleep on laugh

RE: I can't breathe...

Red would normally have been able to comment knowledgeably on this blog but she's I think still in hooky.

How are you coping with masks in public? In Spain, strict as they are here, you can avoid wearing a mask if you are asthmatic and can produce proof from your doctor.

Honest profiles, and meeting the right person online

Genuine profiles do happen. I know a bloke, George, widowed about a year earlier, who joined a dating website because all the women he knew were friends of his late wife. Met about 5 women who were nice but just wanted to be pals. #6 was the charm – widow, nice, and thought he was hot to trot smitten

Both their families were horrified the lost loved one could be replaced so instead they spent alternating weekends at each other’s homes (about 2 hours drive apart), went on holidays together, and that worked out so well they've still an item 10 years down the line. They're older now, of course, late 70s and both living in retirement homes near their respective families.

That's another thing about meeting online, the relationships are often unconventional. But it was knowing George had persisted until he found a working relationship that made me even try a webste laugh

RE: Displaying Tolerance

Gingers are definitely scary Mic uh oh however I am 100% behind OldeGuy in one thing, I don't think teachers should dish it out but I really don't think mouthy kids should either because every time authority gets chipped away we shuffle a little closer to "the loudest shouter wins the bout" and anarchy and mob rule. dunno

So I guess in your example he started it and therefore yes he had to take it - but I bet he wish he hadn't started it. If she didn't backchat every teacher she ever had, then I am as proud of her as you must have been tip hat if she did, eish. uh oh

Honest profiles, and meeting the right person online

Soon - um, ok. She'll probably send one if you ask but you'll understand she doesn't want too many people knowing what she looks like now. 23 different families, for starters ...

Inthecountrysideonline - oh how charming. Some seriously sick or stupid types out there, eh?

Luke, whoof wow

She's turned over a new leaf, though. So no problems grin

RE: New COVID-19 cases on the rise...

Almera, no, I don't think so. We are only now in phase 3, moving slowly out of lockdown. 3 months incarcerated, and our worst spikes started more than 2 weeks into the period. The only effective lockdown would have been no contact at all with the outside world. Once there is any contact at all, once germs are brought indoors, they breed furiously in enclosed spaces. Ask the prisons and nursing homes which account for most of the cases.

Figures started improving within days of people being allowed out for an hour's exercise a day. Fresh air and exercise seems to be better than staying within 4 walls, now who would ever have guessed ...

laugh

Honest profiles, and meeting the right person online

Almera, the one eye open bit, actually you'd be okay there, I gather she slept with guys to get information about each fella she then went on to kill, but doesn't seem to have murdered any of the pillow-talkers.

Just an old-fashioned romantic at heart, eh?

Honest profiles, and meeting the right person online

Luke, you read the second bit, right? wow

But sure, contact her through the Red Cross, she's right here in sunny Spain laugh

BN, you were told that in strictest confidence!! very mad
