Farm September

I give up on the blue tarps. They are just as much junk as plastic. Only good to them is the Baltimore orioles think those strings are the greatest fibers to weave their nests. It is funny..man's pollution is seen by critters has found goodies sometimes. I find bird nests with pieces of plastic bags, strings, tarp strings, aluminum foil and whatever. The amazing thing is how birds build nests. The chick hatches out of an egg in its nest. It grows up and flies off. The next spring it builds a perfect nest of fibers, grasses, weeds, mud, twigs or what ever is its species requirement. No lessons, no patterns, no instructions. I can take a bird nest, try to duplicate it and create..a MESS!
I am trying to feed kittens and tame them. Indigo moved hers out of the hay and no idea where they are. So will be so wild cant touch! I have batches all tangled up. Fortunately when nursing time comes, the ma's feed whomever is in the pile. I have one that has hair like a hedgehog. And bent ear tips like some vampire bat. Be neat if it lasts but know it wont. 3 have disappeared below and no idea where those are. And I swear Squiggles is PG. What!? Winter is almost here and you decide to breed?!!
Here is a fave recipe. Late husband told me this form. I am not a chili fan. But, this one I like.
TEXAS CHILI:
Dice up two pounds of meat..roast of some kind. Beef, venison..(can use hamburger)
Brown the meat in frying pan til cooked. Add one pkg of Texas Red Chili seasoning. If you dont use the Texas Red kind, it will be different. Mom added more chili powder when I brought it to her. I dont like hot chili. Texas Red packets give flavor without burn.
Stir til all the meat is seasoned. then combine in one can of tomato paste. Then add one can of tomato soup. Add the can of stewed tomatos. Add a can of seasoned tomato sauce. then one can of kidney beans. Or skip the beans if you dislike. My brother in law said he didnt want june bugs in his chili!
I just finished a wooden 2D owl. Joined 3 pieces of wood, cut into owl outline. Added eyes feather surround of round wood pieces, painted eyes in them. Added wing shapes glued on. And beak, eyebrows and feet. Now did a row up middle with five petal flowers I hot glued on. The centers are flat round beads and the petals are glued pistachio shell halves. I glued a turkey barred wing feather to each wing too.
No place to put it, but..oh well..MUST CREATE!
Stir it thoroughly and then simmer til the meat is tender, stir occasionally.
I cast a concrete skull. Put cardboard rolled to make a hole in center. Painted it, glues bits of bear hairs on, stuck it on the fence metal pipe by flowerbed. Thinking of hanging a sign. last guy who trespassed.
Joe and I went to Dollar Tree. I dont know if writing a crab letter to them did any good, but there was a ton of stuff new. I got two skull and crossbones, 3 water globes, some flowers, 3 pair of MOSSY OAK thermal socks! Found some off my list.
I need to get sewing. I want to make a wimple for the Renaissance fair coming up the 9-10th. They are advertising so it is for sure. They are at Circus World Museum, in the grounds. I want to wear an N96 mask. Figure if I make a silk wimple and change it a bit, I can pull the neck part up to hide the mask and look in medieval style. I bought a silk saree used, off ebay. 5 yards of silk for $10 at auction. It will be thin enough should be able to fit my crown over it. I do Queen Elizabeth the 1st at the beginning of her reign.

Pfizer is after a booster. Idea..no money except for materials and the shots will be donated. No money to them. Watch..suddenly..OH one shot is enough.

The data changes all the time. First, vaccine only good against 67% from Israel. Now Pfizer is saying it. Of course they have the money thing going. 70% of hospital cases are non vaccinated. Now today 99%.
Side effects are rare. Then why are more being talked about? A couple was just on the news. They both got both shots. Waited months..or did they wait a year after. Anyway..to go on vacation. They are now warning people..wear masks. Cause they came home and both have covid. Headaches, pain, etc. She says she had pneumonia years back and credits shots with staying free of it this time. Just had bad cold symptoms.
What they say is rare might not be so rare. And what will happen when under 12s are sneezing on each other. Any person who had both shots could be a Typhoid Mary. Symptom free and spreading as they go about without masks. To non and fully.
What will the future bring. And how come nothing is said in regards to Moderna or J&J shots?

The facts as I have heard them:
If you get BOTH shots you cant get the virus. If you get one shot you can. If you get one or both, you CAN get covid.
The shots protect against Delta. They only protect 56 % against Delta.
You wont need a booster. You may need a booster. Or yearly or monthly. The shots protect 6 month. Or a year. Or indefinitely.
It is safe to mingle if you have both shots. But, wear a mask cause you may have it and not know it. You wont end up in hospital if you catch it and had both shots. But, you might get sick. And might get sick from the shots.
Kids cant catch it. Kids can catch it. Kids shrug it off. Kids can die from it. Kids can spread it.
Covid can make long haulers. The shots can make long haulers.
You can catch it from surfaces. You cant catch it from surfaces. It spreads by sneezing or coughing. It spreads from breathing. You need to be 6 feet apart. You need to be exposed for 15 minutes in a closed room. Open the window and it is OK. Delta can spread passing someone only.
Masks dont work. Masks do work. The surgical ones are worthless. Wear two masks. Better yet, a cloth over a surgical. Wear a mask. Dont bother with a mask.
You are immune if you had covid. You are not immune and need the vaccine. Donate plasma if you had covid. Dont donate if you had the shots because it destroys the antibodies.
Covid hates heat. Covid hates cold. Covid likes both.
Covid will fade away if we all get the shots. Covid will not because the whole world isnt vaccinated.
Covid will run its course. Covid will just be another winter flu forever.
Covid kills more than flues. Flues kill more people.
There you have the facts as I have heard them. But, dont count any of them because they will be changed tomorrow.

That is how my ex was. We loved each other, just weren't IN love anymore. There is a difference. And it matters when two people have to share home and life. It was the case that living together, pursuing goals together was not in the cards.
My late tenant said to me once, he could change. I told him no you cant. He was around 40. I said how you are, who you are and what you are is set. A gal has to accept that and take you as you are. Not some dream of what could be.
An ex is an ex for many reasons. And even if they realize their mistakes, it doesnt change their true nature or character. Like the saying, you cant go back.
My ex and I lived out of state for his army years. When it came time to come home, he said we should stay. Away from parents, siblings, friends...the stuff that caused issues. I said no..it is not them. It is you. I saw he was starting to follow his same path, causing the same issues. I said you cant run away. If you start, you will never stop running away. One needs to change the problems or they will catch up sooner or later. When you look at her, dont just remember the good times, remember the bad. And she is still whom she was.

It depends on how it is taught. My experience is the kids blushed, laughed, made jokes and fun of the classes and learned little. The problem now is the schools are supposed to do everything parent should. If a parent has a problem, then buy the kid a book to read.

I saw how life had been with him. Not that bad..but also not that good. And I know to return to it was not what I wanted. He never changed.
It turned out his wife bought another house...told him she never planned to spend her entire life in the trailer. She said move with me whenever you want. He never did. Ended up they found him dead of a heart attack at 53. In the trailer, surrounded with LPs, car parts and what he deemed worthwhile. He left behind 150 VWs of various condition and 1000 junk tires.
I thank HIM for leaving. Could I have saved him? Probably not, she couldnt either.

I had two nights of 28. I think now I am safe to set pots out that spend winter inside. I started some peas in pots in the house. Until the ground is 60, pointless to plant outside cause they won't sprout.. Shade is my problem. I do 5 gallon pails on the deck, over there, over here and anywhere. I am thinking of poisoning off the old garden of grass and wild berry vines and resurrect it. But, buckets are so much easier. I can do fill with barnyard, move them where I want and weeds are minimal and easy to yank out. Only issues with planters is keeping cats out. I pulled the sheet off the cherry tree and actually saw some little pollinators. Tiny fly guys...think bees, could be flies? And today saw one bumble bee. So maybe hope for fruit and veggies.

No apologies. I am not elderly nor a senior citizen. I am an old woman. And glad to have made it to old age. Every birthday, dad said to me, remember..no pig gets that old. I have had high 60s days. It is the middle of April. No more birds around than in winter. No spring songs. A few geese are here. Cranes were and seem to be gone. I see eagles and hear an owl in the pine plantation. I have rhododendrons in bloom. And a little cherry. Sat today at 63 F and saw ONE little bug around it. A fly? A tiny bee? What happened to them being covered with bees. Not even a bumble this spring.
It is just here? Do my chickens eat all the bugs? No bugs, no birds? What is happening?
Rachel Carson wrote a bird long ago...Silent Spring. Things were better later. Are we at risk once more? Take a long look around where you are at? Bugs? Birds?

I have heard a few Robins. But, where is the mass push north of birds. Too cold? Too stormy? Too early? Or are we heading to another Silent Spring. One issue might be the fact that I don't see insects anymore. I thought it due to hens eating around the farm. But, then someone pointed out what happened to the windshield splatters of the past. I started to notice when driving to town. Now a rarity to hit a bug with windshield. No bugs no birds no crops. Getting scary.

Color of shell makes no difference. Neither does breed of hen. What counts is food. My hens are free range all over the farm. And beside what they find to eat as to bugs, weeds, grass, frogs and mule manure...all they get is shell corn. So the yolks are orange, not that pale yellow and full of flavor. Commercial hens are fed laying mash. It is soy bean meal, fish meal, corn meal, wheat or oat meal and nutrients. All with the intent to make them pop out an egg every day. A feral hen can live to 15 although most average under 7. A commercial hybrid hen dies at age 3. Mine chickens average at least 5.
My dad liked goose eggs. Mom and I didn't. They are very tight and tough, same as ducks. I guess taste is similar to hen. But it is texture I dislike.
My hens are crosses of ferals, and hybrids and pure hybrids. Some eggs are white, most browns. They range in size from bird egg to small to medium to large and once in a while..YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME..OW size.
There are chickens referred to as Easter eggers. They are Araconas.(sp) I had some. Lay green or blue or yellow eggs shells. I waited eagerly. THAT is IT? So pale? I thought like dyed eggs. So much for that. And the hen lays only the one color she picks, forever.
Shell color is genetic to birds for their need to hide and keep safe from predators. Altho..what is up with Robins?
