Your neighbor's Kelpie sounds like one of my house cats. Always finding things that don't belong to them. The remaining slipper met an unfortunate death by one of the ranch dogs. A jillion fuzzy pink pieces all over the yard. Took me two hours to pick up all the pieces. Needless to say, I learned my lesson to never wear slippers out to the heifer lot again.
These Shaolin monks have definitely piqued my interest and I'd like to learn more. It's good that they have found a way to keep fit and to make money to help themselves and others.
I'm glad that you liked it. :-) Europe seems to be fascinated by the Cowboy way of life and there are individuals in different countries who seem to be born cowboys/cowgirls. They dress and live it and it is so heart warming. :-) Europe is beautiful and has so much history. My mother is half Spanish and has family outside of Madrid that I plan to go visit next summer. I've always been taken with the beautiful Andalusian and Lusitano horses. :-)
Yes, family and communal get togethers are truly priceless.
Billy,
I made a crawfish creole dish for lunch today that came out pretty good. I like to cook and it's relaxing and fun. Some days it does seem like many don't know how to cook anymore. Your sandwich sounded wonderful. :-)
gotitall,
Let's see.. It does work because it brings people together. I've held several such get togethers in my yard which is what most people call a county. People are drawn by kindness, good food, a chance to talk to other folks, get to know one another and a chance to get away from the stresses of work and home life for awhile, not to mention share recipes and let the kids play together.Everyone is welcome. I was born in Dublin to an Irish father and a Spanish/Cherokee mother. I spend my vacations visiting my father's family in Eire and love it there. Wonderful people.
Thank you for the kind words. Whatever words you are having trouble with, feel free to ask and I will do my best to explain them. :-) If you can, do be sure to watch "Last American Cowboy" on Animal Planet. :-)
gotitall,
We prefer the term "gentling" as it goes much further in trust than force ever will. This applies not only to animals, but to our fellow man, woman and child as well. :-)
Billy,
I am very well acquainted with the Stockmen of your lovely country. Some have become sucessful bull riders here in the US. One even spoke of cracking his kangaroo bull whip while driving down Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. I was thinking, "Dang, there's my kind of guy!".
Some blogs will have been years in the making and some will be humorous. Some will be serious, all will be from the observation deck while a' horseback.
Too funny about the cane toads not being able to climb trees. If they could, would they qualify as tree frogs?
The only coffee I like is Irish coffee with a dash of Bailey's and some whipped cream. Problem is, I want it first thing in the morning. Riding a horse while enebriated is NOT a good idea.
I'm a big drinker of Bewley's tea and love it hot with some sugar. It's wonderful to curl up with a hot cuppa and some scones and a good novel.
Horse manure always helps make the soil better (Mom and Mamaw swore that when they blended it with some coffee grounds and leftover egg shells that made for the best fertilizer around) and you're right about the corn- MMMMMMMMMM Yummy!!
We have Kildeer here that are very aggressive defending their young ones. They nest in the grasses on the ground here and the young are tiny models of the adults. Some of those adults are downright mean!
There's nothing like the bonding of human and animal. :-)
Love me, love my animals.Like a mother knows her children's voices, I know and recognize each one of theirs. They are the best judges of human character and while conversation is one-sided, they still make great conversationalists.
I wouldn't dream of telling someone I don't like their pets as it's the furthest thing from the truth. I'm an animal magnet!
I play the chanter (self taught)and still tear up at "Amazing Grace". The people of the Appalachians are of Scots-Irish ancestry. Of people who suffered hundreds of years of oppression.Good, hard working, strong people with an indomitable will and an independent spirit not often seen.
Being Irish born and raised in America, I understand what the OP is saying. It's weird though because I treat the men in my life like kings. I go out of my way to spoil them on their birthdays and Christmas and "just because" days too. I leave them cards and letters to brighten their days and it makes my heart glad to do so.
What a beautiful mountain! :-) I, too, love the countryside and was raised on a 3,000 acre ranch in El Paso,Texas with horses, cattle and sheep. :-) I miss my childhood home and now have a small ranch of my own. I used to live in the city and always felt so cooped up in my apartment there.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday and do take your boy out to the countryside. He will love being outside and seeing all the glory of Mother Nature. :-)
Naturelover,
I'm envious that you live so close to the woods! When I lived in Minnesota the woods were just a five minute walk outside my door. Here I live on the prairie now and trees are few and far between, but it has it's own beauty with the buffalo grass and all sorts of wildflowers. :-)
I have a Queensland Blue Heeler named "Jigme" and a menagerie as well. I also have horses on my small ranch and was raised on a ranch here in Texas. I was riding before I could walk. I've always wanted to visit Australia and love the name and meaning of your town. :-)
May you have a blessed birthday and pleased to meet you.
I'd read this story several years ago and it brought a tear to my eye then, as it does now. It's amazing how one voice can affect another, especially that of a young child.
My uncle, too, was a preacher man to the Eskimos up in Alaska in a tiny fishing village. He inspired me to listen to God's Word and to hear God's call and I, too, became a Preacher Woman.
Dusty Springfield's "Son Of A Preacher Man" has always resonated with me.
Runs With Wings
Same here, Calliopesgirl. Same here. If this is what flight is like in heaven, I'd like to be there NOW.
