I suppose I can only compare your hosting of the World Cup to when Sydney staged the 2000 Olympics.
I don't live in Sydney but the feeling I got was that a lot of residents felt that the Games were a inconvenience and would only disrupt their precious day to day activities for the entire 2 weeks......... they only had 7 years notice they would be on.
The irony is that the infrastructure of the city ran like clockwork for the duration......... it was fairly ordinary before and has been an absolute shambles since!
It is all a distant memory now but it was fun while it lasted. So fly your flag, have fun and make the most of it.
Yeah........... I was raised a Catholic as well but it was more to do with "keeping up appearances". Small town, full of European migrants and, as with my family, Irish. You miss Mass on a Sunday and you were the talk of the town.
As for my First Confession........... I was way too young to recall what I blabbed about. I do remember that this particular Irish priest was a regular visitor to our place for a Sunday evening drinking session and I used to worry about those loose lips as the alcohol took effect.
Thankfully he didn't snitch on me. I reckon I learned a lot more from those Sunday evenings than I did in any church.
Why are we so concerned about nature? Nature doesn't give two hoots about us puny humans and she is more than capable of looking after herself. We evolved into existence and we will evolve out of existence and meanwhile Mother Nature will just keep rolling on.
RE: Lets not forget the meaning of Memorial Day
Hi John:The song you are referring to is called And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda written by Eric Bogle in 1971. Very moving.
My favourite version was recorded by the Bushwackers 5 years later.
