RE: "THE DEADLIEST PLAGUE"

Just a comment - it is scary, but another issue is possible long term effects. Recall the movie "Awakenings" ? Think it was a flue that appeared shortly after the Spanish Flue.

RE: Ready to get mooned ?

@Bearwoman: "Since the Gregorian calendar is the system that many in North America use today, that is how we have presented the list of Moon names, as a frame of reference." - not sure I understood, can you give an example ? of names...

RE: Ready to get mooned ?

RE: Ready to get mooned ?

Not sure about this, but ......I think I once heard that there was a linkage...there were more electrostatic charge in the air during moonshine, which affect the serotonin production. So there was some factual basis for those old sayings of people's emotions. Yup, pretty sure.

Thanks for your hug ;) - well, the questions have occupied me all day, so ...I did burn a some calories, but that may not have done much to the polar cap, I hope wine

"author has disabled comments"

Apologies accepted - it was quite okay, because I was probably wrong again grin

You really gave me a problem. I know Methane was in question, but somehow that contribute to more ozone - there are some paradoxes here, as well as the NOx seem to have some paradoxes - I feel like bend into a question mark all the time confused

RE: put your phone away, Donald

It is sad really, there were so much made in USA and people were proud of what they produced. There is a certain satisfaction in that. A sense of self-worth, of taking part, and all that. So, there are a lot that get lost when factories close, move out, or perhaps get too automated.

RE: The trouble with chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine...

@chancer_returns - sorry, but as you stated - "he did so after extremely promising results from abroad by specialists who used the drug(s) on people with coronavirus" - so, why the heck did he not reference those working on it ? Why did he not mention that WHO was working on it ? Why did he not bring on some qualified people in his administration to explain it ? We have all seen this before, like when the weather service tried to correct him on hurricanes hitting Alabama. When a President speaks to the nation, then he better do it in a correct manner. You said - "Trump looks for solutions, tries to be positive." Yeah, we have seen that - too many times - there is a difference between private opinion and head of state.

RE: Legal Ramifications to Trump for Malfeasance in COVID-19 Crisis

Jim, I like your expression - "so-called" president. Many of us did not view him as fit for the office, but .. anyway, those that voted him in, carries responsibility as well. He is what he is. Some hoped that he would step up to the situation, but I guess that was too much to hope for. All he had to do was to take a step back, hold his tongue, and let qualified people speak. Every nation have ready made guide plans for this type of emergency. To totally disregard it is astonishing, but very much in line with his personality. We are experiencing some strange times......dunno

RE: The trouble with chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine...

I am not certain that what I say here is 100% correct - but the testing will take several months, and people will not know if they get the medication or not, you know, standard way of testing against a control group. It will take time, but it is very important to get correct data. That is because these meds may be a base to build on for a hopefully more tailored medication down the road. Also very important is to collect data on possible side-effects. Normally all this takes "years", but with many teams participating they hope to get as much data to speed the process up. There are always huge risks involved, for example - there could be severe side-effects for certain people having other health issues. So WHO is conducting this in a very controlled fashion.

3D covid19 protective gear

Yes, people are amazing - in this case there are groups that have organized the whole operation themselves from their homes. Did see some ladies the other day sewing protective clothing in the same fashion. Home industry.

Saw this story earlier today, of a 5 year old girl - pretty remarkable.

RE: No, it's not just like the flu

Well, this is only the first wave - we have little idea how this will continue, and even among those that has experienced mild flue symptoms, show damage of fibrosis on their lungs they have to live with. So, when the World Health Organization has been taking this serious, they probably have their reasons.

RE: U.S.A.....making it great again

The alarming issue with Trump, is that he clearly favors those that show appreciation of him, like he bluntly expressed in the press statement. That is absurd. You cannot even view it from a business point. And every Nation has an emergency plan and guide as how to handle Pandemics, which he totally disregard -

What he says in his Coronavirus Task Force Brief, looks more like what you would expect from a "Banana Republic", not a leading nation in the world. He should step back and let the experts do the presentation instead. It is pathetic. Luckily there are some governors that show better judgment and seem to have a handle on this.

RE: U.S.A.....making it great again

RE: No, it's not just like the flu

Trump team failed to follow NSC’s pandemic playbook - The 69-page document, finished in 2016, provided a step by step list of priorities – which were then ignored by the administration.

RE: No, it's not just like the flu

Norway will conduct scientific tests of malaria and Ebola medication on patients, in co-ordination with WHO, to evaluate the effects. The start-up will begin tomorrow. Some reports from China have indicated a possible effect. 22 hospitals will take part in the study.

RE: No, it's not just like the flu

Orson Welles - War Of The Worlds - comes to mind. It is very strange that some tiny "organism" may land on some of your cells and invade it. There seems to be a debate what to make of them, if they are alive or not. May wonder if they have intelligence ? Looks like we are embarking on a nano universe we know very little about. Remarkable that we mostly stay alive in this soup of alien lifeforms - or how to classify them.

RE: The flu, world war one peace, and world war two war....

@FargoFan: was it my comment you meant ? sorry about the "wishy-washy nonsense" - it was a reaction to what Freedman said in that video. Have read some material from the German General Staff and the political thinking of the time. After a few sentences, it was apparent that the topic was too large to fit in a comment.

Time for a break.

Thank you all, - back at the old place for another haul. Not having internet yet at my new location.

RE: Poverty In America

Embedded image from another site

It is made in Denmark by the same same company, same product, sold in Canada and in USA. Americans pay $422 in USA, but can drive over the border and by it for $31.70 in Canada. But if you don't live close to the border, what then ? And who pocket the profit ? Right, American companies.

I have worked with blue collar workers with broken collar bone and other medical issues that went untreathed because they could not afford medical help. Could not continue their work, and ...well, it did not end that well. Oh, there are too many stories. I don't understand why so many don't seem to figure out that this is "only in America".

RE: Prestigious medical journal concludes that

This discussion is the typical American stupidity and BS. I would like to say something nice about communism and socialism, because everybody seem to think of it as the worst evil of all. But in fact, the idea is very American. It was the foundation of what made America great. It is simply common sense. You help each other. In the old west, people had to help each other. To do the harvest, to build a house, to make a civil society. Sure, if you think of how the word and meaning has been distorted by totalitarian states, then you are right. However social democrats is different. But it is viewed as evil by "capitalists". You should wonder why. If you really want to rip off people, if you really want to make a lot of money for your self, then - what is the very best markets for investments ?
Right, every commodity people really need. Food, clothes, drinking water, sanitation, infrastructure, housing, health-care, transportation, education. This is the prime sectors that every capitalist focus upon. If they can tap into any of these sectors, they can make a fortune. However, any vibrant society need all this to be productive. Without you harm and kill productivity. People are so worried about taxes, but it is simply stupid. If you pay 30% tax on $20 an hour, you would actually come out better then earning $15 an hour. Those $5 you pay, will give you health-care coverage, pensions, the whole infrastructure you need for a productive and vibrant living. Why is that so hard to grasp ? ( you should check out what the rich pay, what industries pay, etc. Now why is that ? )
Now, let us look at some benefits - for a business, they don't have to worry about huge insurance policies. If a worker have an accident, they do not have to worry that much. For the worker, he never have to worry that much. His family does not have to worry. You do not have to battle with insurance companies, and you do not have to worry about not having payed your premium. Crime will drop, as people are not forces to do something criminal in order to survive. I really do not understand the huge scare about government. All officials are democratic selected. Their salary is controlled. Most countries have universal health-care, and it works. But United States and their economic ideas are very dominating in the world. They preach their gospel and they lobby everywhere. Huge corporation do their best to get a foot in the door everywhere, investing in infrastructure, health industries, all of the above I mentioned earlier. And not to mention weapon industry so there will be a lot more victims and casualties to make money on. Why not produce something that make life better for people ? This is what America used to do, remember ? Made in USA was a quality stamp, it was what the whole world looked up to, what everyone wanted. But Wall Street and capitalism has abandoned the country. It is produced in China and elsewhere. It is not only because of lower wages. It is also because others support the infrastructure. There is something fundamentally wrong when you sacrifice your own people, just to enrich lawyers, bankers, doctors, and the like. It is all very simple, you need to review everything, have a healthy vibrant workforce, ingenuity and possibilities, a thriving society. The crazy thing about America, is that the world still talks about the glory days, still believe it exist, and that is feeding back making you still believe it is the center of the world. And how many of you believe in P.T.Barnum in the White House is absolutely incredible. It can only happen in America.

Senate impeachment rules

No, without documents and witnesses, they did not - and it has never been done this way in the complete history of cases. A court may dismiss a case - but that is different. Here they did not do that, but despite better knowing, they choose to disregard witnesses and documents, which have been blocked from their oversight as well. But as you argue, I see that we will not arrive to any common understanding.

Senate impeachment rules

@chancer_returns: No.

"The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments."

To "try all Impeachments" is quite different from "to shut down" - they failed their duty.

What could you do with 240 billion $

@Frontnine35 - it does not matter what the US spend, as the other nations have decided it. Sure, the US has to pay for their wars and expenses and you cannot expect others to pay for that. It is concerning that NATO does no longer stand together as it have done earlier. Trump has already expressed that he may not be reliable. He seem to prefer to listen to Putin over his own people and allies. He is also breaking with other international agreements and goes his own ways.

America vs. America

@Frontnine35 - I don't have words for the like of you....
