RE: For the zappa fans- Adrian belew still rocks out.

King Crimson....

Hi Piers, just to give you a bit of background...
King Grimson was formed way back in 1969 by Bournemouth (England)guitarist and composer Robert Fripp...Also in the band were Mike and Pete Giles...KC was formed out of the ashes of a group / album called "the cherefull insanities of giles, giles and fripp...of which only a handfull of albums exist...(now commanding huge sums of money between collectors)...
Through various "versions" of the band, there have been, Greg Lake, Peter(Pete)Sinfield, Boz Burrell, Keith Tippett, Marc Charrig, Mel Collins, Jamie Muir and the legendary John Wetton...
The incarnation of Crimson that featured Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and old time "crimso" Bill Bruford didn't come into being untill 1981 with the album "Discipline"...
Adrian has remained with KC from that time onward...

Not being picky, but hoping this info is of interest...

All the best...Lard...thumbs up

RE: sequels really sequels

Hi SF...

Money, and a lack of immagination!...
Im sitting here dreading the next Avatar movie...Writer/Director James Cameron has said there are no less than 2 sequals on the wayfrustrated ...
Good films are about, and there little independant efforts with tight budgets and smart scripts...So, fear not, Give the hollywood machine a wide birth and seek out the real reason why movies are still worth making...
As a film lover of more than 35 years, there are some films that simply should not be messed with...
So, lets hope they dont remake....

12 Angry men...(lumet)
Whatever happened to baby jane...(aldrich)
Night of the demon...(tournier)
The train...(frankenhimer)
The night of the hunter...(laughton)

Just my five...All black and white classics...
Hollywood, leave well alone.....PLEASE!...

RE: the truth of our existence

...Hi SF...

I have never read the bible or for that matter any religious text, similarly, i have not read Darwins theory of evolution, or carl sagen or steven hawkings books on space / time physics...But ive been convinced enough by what ive heard of the scientists to go along with the big bang and the following evolution offerings...
Sorry to have to say, I really cant believe (a, your, there, someones)"god" created the heavens and earth...where is the "empirical evidance"?...We have museums all over the world with geological and biological evidence to "tangibly" support the science arguement...
As for the "Little green men ", lets just say "IF" they did create humankind, why again have we no "proof" of anything?, UFO/alien theory is fancyfull at best, and advocates of such theories tend to be non scientific and pedaling a personal agenda, (book sales, tv/ film rights, seminars etc)...
Im not here to debunk anybodys right to believe in there god, but if you want to convince me otherwise, im going to need solid incontovertable proof and evidence of the sort that stands up under scrutiny, and not just faith and belief that is personal and subjective, however well intentioned it may be...

hope im not annoying anyone here, but im sure you can see a balanced view is worth qualifying...

All the best and with much respect...Lard...handshake

RE: Is anyone out there serious about using this site?

...In reply...

Hello a66...You have asked the question that i have asked of myself on more than one occasion...
Lets look at a couple of points, purely unscientificly...
We approach "dating sites" (and i do mean plural) with a view to finding that "significant other", and in the initial stages were bouyed up with the favourable "call back" rate that is part of being a "newbee"...Now, this is the time to cash in on the response,s because it tails off after a while( thats my experience anyway)...
You have noticed that people contact you from all over the world, that again is par for the course, and by itself is no bad thing...However, its been my experience (8 months!), that the site opens up interest based upon your (and my own) input...
In my case, I have a handfull of "regulars" who i keep up with in the video postings, (it was the way things drifted after the initial interest tailed off)...Again, not in a bad way...
But the fact is, I have had just a couple of dates in Ireland which have'nt developed due mainly to different tastes and the consideration of distance...
The "real" connections thus far have been with people who i never expect to meet, sad but true...So, whats the answer...I'd have to say 1/. finding someone who lives no more than an hours drive away from you here on site, or 2/. its back to good old fashioned "organic" methods, Ya know, getting out and meeting people, not as easy as going on the computer i know, but these people are in the zone and who knows when a conversation will spark up?...
Really, Im not pushing platitudes, but if im honest with myself, thats the way i see things running eventually...that said, i love the interaction here on CS and dont expect to leave anytime soon...
And in closing, I sincerely hope you find that special person...
Its said there is someone out there for each of us, hopefully just not half a world away...

All the best...Lard...hug...

RE: Ah tis nice to be nice

...Pay it forward..

There is a film by that name...unsolicited acts of random kindness, not to people you know, but to total strangers...
I have tried it a few times telling the recipients, "Its Ok, help out someone else, not for profit or reward"...

I wonder if they did?, and more to the point, did they enjoy the feeling afterwards...As you say, "Its nice to be nice", and everybody wins...grin

All the best...Lard...thumbs up

RE: How do we get hurt ?

...Wise words, well spoken...

In truth, I have nothing to add that would improve on what you have said...Its only a shame more people hav'nt read this post...
Communication is THE stumbing block for so many people / relationships...And as for "knowing what we want" from a relationship, well, Ill just say, thats still a "work in progress" for me and many others if the truth were but known...
When time comes, as it will, and the lessons of the past are braught to account (usually with the benefit of age and hindsight) there is a good chance hurt will just become another four letter word...Well, thats the hope anyway...laugh

All the best...Lard...thumbs up

RE: Destination You

...hi there...wave

Interesting post, I do enjoy reading about peoples exploits in finding themselves...Sure, dont we all find ourselves with time and the right motivator / motivation...
As a young lad with more questions than answers, and no religious convictions, I was fortunate enough to work with a guy back in the 80s who was a forward thinking "individual"...
I use that discriptive term as John (who i hav'nt seen in 28 years) set me on what was to be my path...Not to commercial success or material fortune, but an ability to question my actions or in-actions, accept responsibility for my failures and mistakes and to treat all life as valuable...
Seems obvious, does'nt it?, but its suprising how many people dump there failures at somebody elses door...
John was not a religious man,(though he had leanings toward buddhism, as do I) he did'nt believe in God as a construct, but did carry the cases for good and evil with measured and intellegent response...He believed in the power of "self worth",and while not preaching his beliefs, made more sense to me than any form of religion before or since...
He pre-dated motivational coaching by many years...I will forever be in his debt for giving me a valuable lesson that has been and continues to be the cornerstone to how i live my life....
Life IS complicated and more than just a little scarey sometimes, but with confidance and reconing, just about anything can be acheieved....
Ok, all the best...
Lard...thumbs up

RE: Facebook

I dont know that F/B ruins relationships, i think its the other way round...i cant post what id like to for fear my ex would "cop on" to things...funny thing is, she hardly ever used it when we were an item saying she didnt like it...draw your own conclusions!...
but after all that, im sorry to read of your misfortune...I hope you find happiness else where...comfort ...Zepp...
