It is very tiring and I don't do that. I only exchange short funny messages with people and if they want to know me better I give them my MSN. I don't have time for chat either, so I decided to arrange a few phone calls or video chats via MSN and 30 minutes of each will decide for us both do we want to continue our contact or not. I don't have time for letters and long messages and several-hours chats. I did that when I was younger and it was fun, but in reality none of those people weren't much fun and some of them I even never met. So, it was a waste of time in the end. But, as I said, it was fun then. Now, it isn't fun any more, so it's time to find a different approach.
You make the list of SPECIFIC criteria (not general ones like honesty, etc. because you never know if someone is really honest unless you spend some time with him) and choose 2-3 the most important if you're looking for a serious relationship. If a man has them - give it a try, if he doesn't - don't waste your time. If you're looking for fun - nothing matters, because it's only temporarily and unimportant.
I never read what people say about themselves in profiles. I only take a look at the right side - how old they are, what is their hight, do they want children... I think it's very hard to describe oneself in few sentences and do the same about the person you'd like to meet. So if I like the photos and the data, I decide to give my own judgement about the person through messages and chat.
