RE: Will you take the Corona Virus Vaccine?

Nope! Mr. Gates can go first, then we can watch to see if it works. I have to get a flu shot every year due to my job and every year, I feel the effects of the shot for about a week and a half, which sucks some serious swamp water. mumbling Nope, no vaccine for me, thank you very much.

RE: Have you any scars...?

I have too many to count anymore. laugh A lifetime of riding horses and playing sports, plus one scar that ended up saving my life. I looks at scars this way: they tell better stories. wine

RE: My New Kitten

Do you have a name for the little fellow? He looks like he should have a name like "Sweet Face" or something similar. :-) I have the same situation going on at my house- Open the mud room door to do laundry and four cats plus a small dog or two go in. Go out of the mud room and the whole clan follow me out. laugh Open the front door and the big lummox-y dogs just have to go out. Come back from doing barn chores and again, the entire clan has to follow me inside. laugh

Over the years I've gotten quite used to having a little cat pride follow me all around.laugh

I, too, have lost pets that I still miss to this very day. blues

On the bright side- it's so nice to have such sweet animals look at me like I'm their "mom" but the one sided conversations of meows and woofs is quite entertaining. Just wait until this little one brings you a "gift" for making him a part of his family. laugh I can't tell you how many times I've awoken in the morning to have been gifted with a cat whisker or toy mouse on my pillow. laugh

RE: My New Kitten

He's so adorable! He's going to be a real handsome fellow when he's an adult. I have some Maine Coon type male cats and they are *H-U-G-E and just so laid back. I just adopted two 6 week old tail-less Manx brothers. I'm thinking of naming one Lorc (a shortened version of my Irish Gaelic maiden name) and the other either Murphy or a Isle of Man type name.

Your little fellow is definitely a cutie! cowboy

RE: Farmer

I was born and raised on a ranch. My folks raised horses, cattle, some sheep and some chickens. My folks liked to grow some corn, squash, tomatoes and strawberries. They also had some pecan trees, a couple of apple trees, and a peach tree. I remember canning the apples and peaches with my mom and grandmother each year. Great memories. I have a small ranch with horses sheep and chickens. I like to plant a flower garden every year too. I *LOVE* living in the country. :)

RE: Have you ever had an Eating Disorder

I have. Used to starve myself at lunch time because some bullying boys would literally chase me into the bathroom so that I couldn't eat. Because of work I have to remind myself to eat otherwise I stay so busy. I'm a bit overweight now and working to get a nice, healthy weight.

I've always found it difficult to "hate" someone I don't know, whether they be a public or political figure-past or present.

RE: If you see a homeless person asking for handouts

I NEVER *EVER* fail to give some money to a homeless or out of work person. I also offer to buy them a good meal at a restaurant or buy them some clothes or shoes-their choice.

I work in law enforcement and have seen the seamier underside of the belly of society. No matter what- these are people who, through perhaps bad decisions or life situations ended up on the streets. I was raised by ranch raised parents to always look out for my fellow man and to lend a helping hand whenever possible.

Twenty one years ago, I returned from serving in the first Gulf War, recovering from a stroke that saw me medically retired. I was almost homeless due to difficulties with my mother at the time, ending up sleeping on the couch, then living in the family RV with no running water. My grandparents learned of this and stepped in. I lived with them for two years while I recovered and got back on my feet. That's the closest I've ever come to being homeless and I hope I never have to go through that again. I truly thank my grandparents for their love and care as well. It was a truly humbling experience and one learns a great deal about humanity as well.

I'd rather help someone out with the shirt off my own back then to ever ignore someone in need.

RE: cats or dogs?

BOTH. I have 5 cats that sleep with me and when it comes down to it, they would lay their lives down for me.I like their independent nature and their purr is purely hypnotic. They're quieter too. A bowl of food, some fresh water and a litterbox is all they need so you can go on a weekend trip without worry. :) My cats are friendly with everyone until there's a reason for them not to be. I also have 7 dogs. While loyal, they can be quite rowdy and noisy at times. They're good friends and comforting souls. So I like both equally. :)

RE: Well, I never....and did you know that....?

Hi Venere

Just a quick link to my Elementary/Jr.High School and a pic of it as well so it gives you a good idea of the designs my great-grandfather did. The color scheme is very similar to UTEP's. :)

RE: Well, I never....and did you know that....?

Getting a degree in Accounting is a long stretch from Architecture. laugh Believe it or not, the tiled roofs aren't that much different from what we see on houses in the area. :) Southwestern/Pueblo architecture, 1920's (Houses were just built to last and were well made in that time period) and 1930's architecture can be seen all over town and surrounding area. :) I competed in band competitions there in Jr.High and ROTC competitions in High School. :)

My great-grandfather designed houses in the design people wanted. :-) Southwestern, Pueblo, 60's Modern, etc... He even designed the plans for my Elementary/Jr.High School which my grandmother attended as a girl. They just lived down the road from it at the time in the mid 1930's and the family lived there until the early 1970's and my great-grandfather's death.

A good example of his work can be seen on the Cadwallader Elementary website (Just Google it and it should come right up). :)

P.S. My parents didn't acknowledge the "phallus" symbols on the architecture most likely because they didn't want to have answer the curiosity of six very inquisitive youngsters and they probably just didn't know what they symbolized. laugh

RE: Well, I never....and did you know that....?

You bet! :) He was busy getting an education and really didn't study the architecture that much. laugh Our great-grandfather was an architect though and designed the plans for many churches, schools, and private homes in the area and southern New Mexico. :)

RE: Well, I never....and did you know that....?

I was raised in El Paso, Texas. My mother was born and raised there as well as my grandparents. My older brother graduated from UTEP in 1988. The architecture is indeed beautiful. :) Coach Dan Haskins was way ahead of his time with those great basketball players. :)

RE: September 11th 2001

I was in New York on a layover to visit family in Ireland. I decided to. go to the WTC to take some photos for a friend who has an interest in buildings and architecture. Being a nice day, I asked the taxi driver to let me out a couple of blocks away so that I could walk and enjoy the city and people. I looked up just in time to see the first plane hit.

Confusion soon gave way to action. I'd been in the Army previously and always carried a medical kit with me in my bag. I started taking care of the walking wounded and rounded up some healthier looking individuals to help me and to help alleviate their shock.

One of the first responders was a young man that I had served with we were best friends from the moment we had met. He went up into the tower to help and never made it out. Another man I had served with worked at the Pentagon. He lost his life that day as well.

Using up the supplies in my medical kit, I tore my shirt into strips to serve as bandages and slings. I encouraged my little band of helpers to do the same, helping as many as we could. Instinct told me not to go into the building, but to stay outside and do what I could. We were covered in dust. I had them cover their mouths and noses with makeshift masks to protect their lungs. I may well have saved their lives that day.

Watching people jump to their deaths, knowing that I could not save them will always live with me.When I finally got home, my husband did not let me go for a long time. I had nightmares for years. They've lessened now over time. I lost two best friends that day and a part of my soul that will never be recovered. The haunting strains of "Amazing Grace" never fails to bring me to my knees.

It is a day that will live forever in infamy. *Sobbing* sad flower

RE: What is your point of view on marihuana

Exactly. sigh There's no right or wrong answer, hon and the best we can do is just take it a day at a time. :-) hug

You know, come to think of it, my siblings and I were practically weaned on whiskey. Growing up, we'd grab slugs of dad's and grandfather's Jack and coke on a hot day after running around playing. We all did the drinking thing while on freedom from the parents at college/university but we never did develop a hard core taste for the stuff on a regular basis.I was in athletics in school and drug testing was just getting started up. Work, school and trying to get good grades took to the fore. Looking back, after all of that, I'm amazed none of my siblings and I turned into raging alcoholics. I guess life, college, marriage and young families with small children kind of took over and drinking went on the very far back burner.

I learned that I couldn't be a drug taker anyway because my body simply cannot handle narcotics in any form as it makes me deathly ill to the point that I have to be hospitalized.. I have to be on a special pain killer after having surgery. While one person's cup of tea is another one's cup of coffee, it's what makes the world go 'round. :-)

I won't be able to answer any more this evening as I'm on duty, filling in for a sick colleague, but I'll be back as soon as I can. :-) handshake

RE: What is your point of view on marihuana

You're very fortunate, cynical orange. A lot of folks use it as a gateway to other drugs. Many of those folks started with cannabis and moved on to other hard core drugs.

That wasn't propaganda. It's a site that tells the stories of criminals, how they got started into a life of crime, their life stories, etc... It's quite informative if one takes the time to sit down and read them. The sad thing is there's a lot of sick folks out there, and these are just the ones that have come to light.

The folks who use cannabis recreationaly and aren't affected by it are very fortunate. Many aren't. I can't judge those who use it, but do wonder at the wisdom in which one uses to get started with it. handshake

RE: What is your point of view on marihuana

I'm a Detective with the local Sheriff's Department and I see people who started out smoking pot and the effects it has had on their lives. It nearly destroyed my brother-in-law. He risked jail time of 11 years or had the choice of going through rehabilitation for a YEAR to get clean and get his life back on track. He wisely chose the rehabilitation and is now doing very well and is very successful in his new career 5 years later. :-)

This link should be enough to make someone think twice about smoking it and the effects it has. It's something to think about in all seriousness. I cannot judge someone who smokes it, but definitely do question the "wisdom" of it all.

RE: Why would you want to date or marry a soldier?

Wore the Captain's uniform myself, married a young Army Officer, still married nearly 20 years later and accepted that there would be times we could have been separated. We've actually been separated more times since we've been working as civilians than ever while in the Army.

All in all, there isn't one thing that I'd change and I've never regretted marrying him. heart beating teddybear heart wings
