RE: What can I learn from this?

Not possible Robert, at least here on CS. The damage is done unfortunately, people never forget, and your words are printed and saved for all to see. Mine and everybody else´s too for that matter. Your anger is not abating, but it is more sporadic. That is something in your favour perhaps.

RE: I am happy / sad because......

I´m happy because I told somewhere to go in less polite tones than I would normally use...a great adventure for me! AND, I am in no way beholden to what I say, or post here,, as I am no longer looking to score points. Not that I ever was, but if one is looking for a partner one has to be a little careful of what one says!As an eternal observer rather than a poster, I can recall a mountain of threads and posts which are quite frankly, telling, to be politr.

Not that people do that on CS of course. wink

I just wish people would be more honest here and cut out the crap which one hears on bad talkshow television.

RE: I couldn't stand him...now I want him back!

Oh I´m very observant. I don´t post much, but I read and remember. You good man have never posted anything remotely offensive so no need to hide. laugh

RE: LADIES!!!!! Come Give Your Opinion On..............................Men In Uniform

doh I feel embarrassed on your behalf by your idiotic ramblings about Western European, and in the past, solely American women...I hope nobody has forgotten when you first arrived on CS.

I wonder why you hate real women so much?

RE: What can I learn from this?

Recently I am trying to make changes in my life. However, I think it may have something to do with getting older. Young people never feel they need to change anything! laugh

The changes are minor, a little more exercise, I´ve taken up swimming again, something I did regularly in the past. I have always walked a lot as I don´t drive, so there wasn´t really a need to up my exercise to any great extent, but I thought swimming would exercise the parts that walking doesn´t reach, and I love it!

The major thing in my life now is that I have accepted what I have,(less than what I had financially when I was a Tax Inspector and married in the UK) what I am unlikely to ever have in the future if Ihad stayed married in the UK, and I am happier than I have ever been.

I look out of my window each day and see the orange groves, olive trees, my phone rings, family, friends or students, I am Spanish now, I am busy busy, and have been, in reality, for five years. Now I realise that, and it makes me content.

RE: I couldn't stand him...now I want him back!

When one is alone it´s very easy to think about accepting and taking back in our lives somebody´from the past who may not be ideal.

I have had those feelings on and off about my ex husband who I was married to for over twenty years and met at 16. We remain friends, but I know now that despite his apparent love for me we could never work things out.

However, I love him, albeit in a different way than when were were together, and he loves me. We remain friends, we have children together, that´s the way it should be, don´t look back, look forward as I have done.

RE: Faithful

I believe that if one is not satisfied with the intimate side of the relationship, then yes, one may go looking for satisfaction elsewhere, it´s a fact of life and happens every day. However, this is not really the answer to happiness in my opinion. If ones partner is not fulfilling a need, which please remember is different for different folks, then there could be a huge problem which should be resolved by talking about if first, seeking medical help if required, or if all else fails, ending the relationship.

We all have our individual needs, and cheating is not the best, nor the most sensible way to fulfill them if there is something lacking in the relationship.

RE: Illegal immigration

Well Elly my mate, as you know Spain is divided into regions and each region has its own rules and is governed by said rules. Here in Murcia I can honestly say that I have never faced such discrimination. If I want to sit oposiciones to secure a government job, I can, and would probably win, as friends of mine have done here and in Cordoba and Huelva.

I don´t want to, I´m happy working for the Academy I do, and teaching my private students. I can live quite comfortably without it. My friends do think I´m crazy though, they think I should be self-employed or employed by the Government, why? Why do I want to pay a horrendously high amount of social security for being self-employed only to struggle when my students do not attend classes regularly, albeit for valid reasons. That is the problem for self-employed teachers in Spain.

I have found a happy and comfortable medium.

RE: Illegal immigration

Perish the thought, I would never have a go at you, unless I was provoked.

wine

Spain is diverse as you now, and depending on where one lives, the experiences are different.

When are you going to show us that wet suit again by the way? so many ladies here haven´t had the pleasure of seeing the real Elley.

laugh hug

RE: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" what do you think?

Not at all, but I don´t need to apologise, I´ve already posted to Elley what I was confused about.

Some of us who have been here for a long, long time understand what is being said without rancour. If you stay with us, and I hope you do, you will know what I mean in time.

wave

RE: When last did someone else cook for you......?

No Elley. Long distance turned out too scary for me.

How about you? Are you courting? rolling on the floor laughing I´m laughing about the old fashioned word...courting...not the fact that you may or may not be..oh you know what I mean!

RE: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" what do you think?

rolling on the floor laughing I luv you too! rolling on the floor laughing

I was just querying which post you were responding to. I try not to lump anybody with experiences I´ve had in the past, but fortunately for me, they haven´t been too bad so I don´t have to try too hard!

Kiss and hugs to you.

RE: I'm baking a chicken

I know, you are very kind to your chickens.

Still, lay off the canned stuff ok? And the juices are not so good either..full of sugar and salt.

hug

RE: Illegal immigration

No Elley, I don´t feel as you do. However, like you I speak the language, and most of my friends are Spanish and I feel different it´s true, that is normal, but I also feel accepted and wanted by this wonderful community I live in.

I´ve never been happier since I decided to live in this country.

Maybe you should look at the company you keep.

RE: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" what do you think?

Who are you referring to Elley?

I spoke the truth, but I did not refer to money. That is not something which is of great importance to me personally, I´m a working woman and I rely on myself in that department.

If I met a lazy SOB who didn´t want to work, then if would be an issue.

Stop lumping all of us with your experience of women Elley...please.

RE: Off-subject-"Vanity" Chair -vs- hamper for same?

Just go to IKEA, you´ll find exactly waht you´re looking for. Cheap, functional and quite good quality.

Do you have IKEA in the US? hmmm

RE: LADIES!!!!! Come Give Your Opinion On..............................Men In Uniform

Uniforms do have a powerful effect.

I teach English to adults and have one student who is a military pilot. I saw a photo of him recently in his uniform, and I have to say my perception of him changed in a second! Superficial I know, but I´m just trying to show how a uniform can change a man from average to yummy!

My partner is a doctor, and I´m quite partial to his look in his white coat. blushing

RE: When last did someone else cook for you......?

Last night.

I was treated to a wonderful vegetable paella, and some fruity, red Spanish wine.

Mind you, then I had to listen to some sad stories about prostate problems. My fella is a doctor specialising in these nasty things, so if anybody needs any advice....

RE: I'm baking a chicken

Eat it when it´s ready!

And stop using those canned vegetables, or canned anything for that matter.

RE: Some Practical Everyday Useful Hints .....

Cotton wool balls soaked in vanilla extract placed in the fridge will keep it smelling lovely!

Mind you, you have to keep it clean with bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice in the meantime...oh and remove all the mouldy old food.

RE: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" what do you think?

I disagree, good looks and intelligence very often, and can go hand in hand. Intelligence has nothing whatsoever to do with looks, unless you think about how people with half a brain know how to present or dress themselves attractively and appropriately according to their figure or the circumstances, therefore I do agree with Sojourner when she states that intelligence can override any shortcomings in the "traditional good looks" department.

Intelligence is more powerful in the game of attraction than mere appearance.

RE: Not Feeling very European right now !!

quote=Englishman55]Hi Jan,
No, it was not a backhanded apology at all, but just an acceptance of your opinion, and Kids.

Did I make a "crass" statement.... or did I just make an observation...... Call it "crass" if you wish. We will just have to differ on the true definition of "crass"

Should I contribute more to the EU forums ?..... Definately not....
I will contribute to the forum that has something constructive to say.... I don't care where in the world it's coming from.

I live in Europe, born in the UK now living in Italy, been to many other European countries and bearing in mind there are a whole lot of other countries in Europe, I can honestly say, my view is not balanced...... can you say the same and can you level such a crass comment at me.... ?
JMHO

Hi. Well actually I can say I believe my view is balanced, as I too have lived in many European and non European countries. Though always away from the ex-pat zones which perhaps makes a difference.

Incidentally, your previous post states that your view is NOT balanced, was that a typo?

Your thread was, you have to admit, based on a snapshot view of the forums and not on any actual experience of participating on the EU forum, in fact it seemed to be a criticism, which was why I responded in the manner I did being a regular participant on the EU forum.

If you have anything interesting to say then the EU forum will welcome you with open arms, but if you are only interested in the thread topics you mentioned then you are right in your assumption that the Inters are more suited to your personality, though we do have fun often, contrary to popular belief.

Horses for courses Englishman.

RE: Not Feeling very European right now !!

I don´t think it was your type of thread Tom. laugh

RE: Not Feeling very European right now !!

Was that a back-handed apology? If so, accepted. You certainly made a very crass statement based on a second or two of groundless observations.

Maybe you should contribute a little more to the EU forum to get a more balanced view of what goes on there. However, if fixing toilets and the person above me floats your boat, then you will be sorely disappointed.

Are you an Englishman abroad or a European?

RE: Would you date or marry someone who didn't know your language?

Of course! And as a travelling teacher, I have done so on many occasions. I can speak a little of many languages!

To have a partner in a foreign country is the best way way to learn a new language.

My home now is in Spain, and I learned Spanish at University, but only became fluent after having a relationship with a Spanish man for two years, and having Spanish friends.

RE: Not Feeling very European right now !!

Thank you kid, that´s exactly what I was trying to say,but you said it much nicer than me!

The EU forum is fantastic, and the only reason I log in to CS, though I do float occasionally as you do.

wave

RE: Not Feeling very European right now !!

Not fair at all.

Somebody asked today for meatier threads and a particular long-standing member has gone all out to provide them.

If you read the EU forum regularly instead of just taking a snapshot viewpoint you will get a true feel of what it is all about.

Much more fun and laughs in my opinion.

RE: does anybody feel like life is passing them by because they've still not done things they want to do

I don´t like talking about myself Gilly, but I do not feel that life is passing me by, because I am living my dreams, and have been doing so since I separated from my ex. Not because my life was particularly awful with him, it wasn´t, but I realised that I needed to start afresh when we split up, so I changed career and decided to see the world. I had to work though to fund my travels, so I became an English teacher.

I´ve travelled and worked in many countries during the past eight years, and ultimately discovered my soul in Spain.

And I started all this when I was 40, so you´re never too old!
