Hi John. What you´ve written here is truly unbelievable to me, and I´ve worked in a number of countries. Mostly European, but even in Russia there does not appear to be such discrimination in the companies I´ve worked for.
In addition, the OP has just said that Iowa is not so backward as many other States, but I stand corrected if this is not the case in your opinion.
It always makes me feel uneasy when a thread such as this is posted singling out a specific ailment.
We have a long standing member here who is not around at the moment, but a real gentleman, intelligent, respected, and extremely well thought of who suffers from this.
Well you are very fortunate, and reading your other threads, can´t you really see why these young women you communicate with throw "I love you" to the wind so carelessly. It´s simply not true, just as you admit your identical responses are.
I think you are less sure and confident about your penchant for young Asian women than you like to portray here, hence the endless indirect requests for affirmation.
Most of those options are fine depending on my mood, but in reality, I think boredom has set in because the regulars don´t spend so much time here, or have disappeared completely.
My threads usually go down like a lead balloon anyway.
I did like the old cafe and pub scene we had going here, but Lago was the King of those.
Thanks Elley, that´s what I thought basically, the banks here are awful.
I do have a Nationwide building society account which I keep open for payment for work I do in the UK in the Summer, but there isn´t much in it at the moment. I think I´ll take my euros there.
Anyway give me some advice, (sorry for hijacking your thread Imma, but Elley is hard to pin down!) I´m going to Liverpool with some students next weekend and I don´t know whether to take euros and change them in the UK or change them to pounds here.
Hi Imma. I´ve suffered from nightmares since I was a child, though they are much less frequent now.
I think I may have written this before, but my mum was so concerned about my night terrors she took me to the doctor. He was our old family doctor and had been for years, and he told mum there was nothing wrong with me other than over-active imagination.
There may have been some truth in that as my nose was constantly in a book from the time I started reading, but why I still have them occasionally I really don´t know. They are not recurring themes either, but I´ve been absolutely terrified and woken with a pounding heart!
A glass or two of red wine in the evening as Elley mentioned does help though....or maybe that´s all in my mind.
I´ve already commented on this thread, but I would like to respond to your post.
Intelligence and eloquence has no bearing whatsoever in our relationship choices generally speaking, but they do play a big part in deciding whether or not to prolong them.
You do realise that there is a small group of people here who "collect" friends and fans and compete with each other. They are not really interested in communicating with their "friends". These same people vote 10 on profile pics, even if it is faceless or shows an animal, in order to gain yet another friend or fan.
Why they do this, I have no idea, but it probably makes them feel loved and needed.
Although it´s not "fashionable" to blame parents for anything, I do believe that acceptance of difference, such as race, are often defined by how we have been brought up.
Of course other influences come into play during our lives, but they usually do not have any permanent influence regarding our decision making.
Ambrose, sometimes two people become involved without any real planning or aforethought you know.
Often out of loneliness, the most unlikely couples attract and cling on to each other. Then reality sets in, though I´m not suggesting that´s the case here, and I´ve never experienced such a relationship, so I´m probably not best equipped to give an opinion truth be told.
Oy! Stop criticising English women. English women are lovely, fair of face etc etc....
Seriously, beautiful women, and good looking men, can be found in every country in the world. People are often attracted to other nationalities by virtue of that difference, it doesn´t necessarily mean that people of their own nationality are lacking in any way.
Hi Nina. I´m sure inequality of pay still exists in perhaps a handful of private companies, (I´m speaking of Europe again) but I can honestly say that in all my working years in a number of countries, I´ve always been paid the same as my male colleagues.
Many of my classes today are based in a very well known, international company originally founded in Sweden, and there is absolutely no discrimination in so far as pay is concerned, now or in the fifties when it began, so I´m not entirely convinced about your reference to Nordic companies. However, as I´ve already said there is undoubtedly some pay discrimination lingering, mostly in small private companies.
The "glass ceiling" is another debate and still exists all over the world.
RE: What are you doing right now?
I´ve just finished packing for a few days in Liverpool with some of my Spanish students. We leave on Thursday and I´ve just realised that there are two derby games that weekend, Liverpool vs Everton, and Barca Madrid!
