She screams out mainly in English - but throws in some Maltese she's picked up and even some Swahili...... the nice Gozitan carers (who taught her some Maltese) now speak better English and also some Swahili too!
My mother rang me up at 3.30 a.m. (an hour ago now) to warm her tea.... it feels like I am being punished for not staying up until at least 11.30 to run around at her every command.
In the UK I am more than happy NOT to have the right to bear arms; in fact I am pleased not to have been tempted to 'blow away' a few people who got right up my nose!
I was a soldier for 13.5 years - in the British Army we have things called 'armouries' where all weapons are safely locked up when not in use.
Different strokes for different folks.
I note one post saying as a gun bearer he was a citizen and not a subject.............. in this particular case I prefer to be a British subject.
It's a good way of reducing the world population - and a fantastic excuse for responsible citizens to burn their kids in the back yard at the slightest hint of a sniffle!
My dad was born in 1919. There was a flu pandemic in western europe in 1918 that killed off more people than WW1.......... we often have short memories about these things and if a virus takes a few days to incumbate it can travel all round most of the globe before we can stop people flying etc.
I thought the New York City public announcements were EXCELLENT; keeping people informed WITHOUT causing panic!
It's no big deal; there are lots of people who do a far better job in worse situations than myself...... I just hate Sundays as I don't get out at all - when you CAN go out but don't want to go out it's different to being unable to go out because you can't leave a paralysed person on their own!
Of course I explored all the options and gave my mother a choice - she would be unhappy in a home as she expects constant attention.
Trouble is if I go away for 10 days whoever I employ to look after my mother never wants to do it ever again for love nor money...... running out of people who haven't emmigrated on the used illegal immigrant boats back to Libya or wherever rather than ever set foot here again!
My dad died a few months ago - I'd looked after them both for 30 months and had had enough.......... now I've been back since September (left in June) and I'm getting older every day.... of course I love my mother, but I really hate Sundays... the carers come in early and leave early and I feel totally trapped.
I know I am doing this voluntarily, but sometimes I feel like screaming too!
I bought it from the local petrol station in Xaghra in Gozo, Malta............ they are from about 300 euros upwards in price and made in Japan or China with Japanese/Chinese parts...... so I am told.
The instructions are all in Egyptian hyroglyphics, but I've figured most of them out....well, the one I think saying not to put your finger in the socket anyways!
I treated myself to a new toy last week..... an electric bicycle!
Now that the batteries are charged up it goes even better - even went down (AND back up) the hill on it to gozoman's fabulous villa complex............. he refused to have a go stating in his youth he'd had more important things to 'ride' than mere bicycles!
Anyway, I think I'll buy another and donate it to a charity event being held in Gozo on 24th May.....four weeks from today!
I agree - I got five bob a week pocket money while most Maltese spoilt brats got £5 or £10 or more a week!
I really don't know.. the kids in De La Salle were more 'normal' and I think it can be a burden for some people to be brought as a member of 'the elite'............. I also went to Cheltenham College in England where the boys called the local population(and Cheltenham is a very nice place to live) 'the peasants'!
I don't like elitism and I also don't like people with 'new money' who think they are 'wonderful' just because they are or were successful.............. I find people I like and can interact with from all walks of life and various different cultures, races etc........ I even communicate (on a fairly low level of course) with some women!
I like Gozo - we're a decent community here (mostly) and there aren't too many British snobs to spoil it for the rest of us!
I went to St Edwards for one term and then De La Salle for two terms in 1970/1971............. later I went to HonDoq services school, but they let me go after three days as 'uneducateable'
Any chance of helping to arrange a party from Malta to visit your Virgin island virgins and also arrange a party from your place to come over here?
Not sure about the virgins over here though - better ask gozoman as he knows everything about Malta and Gozo, while I'm a just a foreigner!
I think its called bilateral tourism - summat like that, but who cares... the 'Virgin Islands' has a certain ring about it.. a certain 'je ne sais quoi' that intriques me!¬
As a kid of 15 my parents dumped me here one summer on holiday and went back to the Congo without me. I went to school here for a year...I blame the fact for everything then going wrong with my life until I returned here to retire at the age of 50!¬
What you mean, like is dat Malta is a bit like Hong Kong..... but the beaches are better and most people look different from Hong Kong Chinese....... although we have a growing community of Chinese (maybe already a few hundred) who will no doubt contribute to both the culture and cuisine of the islands!
Screaming!
My mum would sound cute screaming in Spanish! She screams out mainly in English - but throws in some Maltese she's picked up and even some Swahili...... the nice Gozitan carers (who taught her some Maltese) now speak better English and also some Swahili too!
