There is NEVER a right time to quit smoking as regards stress or any other excuse.............. the ONLY right time is when you really want to quit and then it'll be easier than you imagined it would be!
I mean, like, one day you'll cough up something that's still...... how can I put it?.......still kinda part of you........ a nice lump of lung that's still got YOUR blood in it and you'll look at that bit of yourself and think 'That's me, dammit!' and then you'll cough up another bit and it'll be enough of you you're coughing up and you'll quit - easy!
Germany, which has much stricter gun laws than the USA, had an America-style (now becoming almost 'everyday' and part of the American culture) high school shoot out......... seven students were killed and three teachers.
Apparently the young man (who had been expelled from the school where he went 'beserk'and had people 'LOL' him on the internet fof threatening to take his revenge) had been under some psychiatric treatment which he had failed to continue.
It's all very sad............ these youngsters who see that they have maybe no future in life believe that they can at least die in 'glory' and have their few minutes of fame or infamy as their final desperate act of attention seeking succeeds on the day that they die.
What makes our kids in western civilised societies so desperately suicidal?
What makes them feel such hatred for life that they decide to take as many people with them on the day they choose to die?
Are we failing our young people somehow?
Do we need to give them challenges that they feel are within their capabilities that they feel they have some chance of acheiving?
Is success and the 'American Dream' or an aspired to lifestyle in the west so totally beyond the reach of the majority of young people growing up?
I'm not, of course, saying that the average American or German or British or Spanish kid is likely to be a potential mass murderer - but does what is now happening on a fairly regular basis give us real cause for concern?
Please give your thoughts - kids are our FUTURE and this kind of thing scares the crap out of me!
Look, the only way to quit is to actually quit, but if you are not quitting yet concerned and believe in moderation then just gradually change your habits............... do you have a cigarette first thing in the morning with a coffee for example?
Gradual healthy change would mean first having your coffee and a nibble of something to eat, however small, BEFORE that first cigarette.
My fiancee smokes but won't let me smoke in her house, so we go outside...............it REALLY does help when you start banning yourself from smoking in certain places and situations - you eventually get used to it (like not smoking on an aeroplane!).
I smoke way too much when not with her - she goes from smoking 2 or 3 cigarettes a day to about 5 when we are together, while I go down from 30 to40 per day to ten or less.......... you can see how I'd like to be at the stage of some smokers on this thread BEFORE they quit!
I could not cope on 3 or 4 ciggies per day - I'd simply enjoy them too much, but would like to get back down to ten a day and feel more in control, and then quit from that level!
It's really NOT funny though................ it a disgusting, filthy EVIL habit, and being a smoker makes me feel a pathetic excuse for a human being.
Addiction is not a nice thing. I like being in control of my life - and being addicted means there is something preventing me from being happy and at peace with myself.
Lagoona thinks I am trying to discredit him, but this thread has been more successful in helping several people stop than others that have tried and failed............ you have ALL done a great job.
I do honestly hope that when I decide to quit that I'll succeed, but for now the fear of failure outweighs the desire to improve my lifestyle!
Look into my soul to find umbrellas and log-fires. Rain on someone’s porch. Oh-no, more peeing and nothingness. Solitude, embraces a vacuum to suck spirits.
And with my endless hosepipe (I) Whip (the) immortal sinners' Chocolate conclusions, Fudge fingers.Stickiness everywhere...
Well you guys and gals re-elected your last president, didn't you!
And we re-elected Tony 'New Labour' Blah Blah Blair......... and what did we get?
A world recession - conveniently after he left so he could claim no responsibility; and little Georgie Porgie Brown could have a nice stuttering fit as he gloried in his new Messianic role as financial saviour of the world...... well, if only that grumpy old Angelika Merkel would agree with him and spend all of Germany's lovely reserves in the New New New Labour you never had it so good so we're going to spend all the money you haven't yet earned for you Party!
RE: The Smoking and Honesty Thread...
Start the day off with a ciggy and a cup of mea culpa?
