very true . I smoked for 35 years and I decided to quit because of the health problems, the stink of the smoke & breath , also the cost. I placed a parcel pack in plain sight to encourage quitting, it was rough for a while , and I chewed a number of tooth picks , but will power prevailed and I whipped the problem .. 6 months later I was at a professional meeting , many were smoking , I thought I would see if I was truly over it , I tried one puff on a cigarette and it was horrible. I have been off of them for over 40 years. WILL POWER CAN WIN. studecar

When I posted "SOCIALISM" for discussion, I never dreamed it would receive the attention it has received, and to be truthful , I think it has done a world of good . It has shown not only the intelligence of many people , but has displayed the stupidity of others. I am much older than most of you , and I can tell you when a lot of this has happened. I was in WWII, after my discharge I reenrolled in college under the GI Bill of Rights ( I had one semester in college before WWII) . There were a number of GIs enrolled and I heard many remark , " I've had to take orders for 3 years (some 4 years) and by God I'm not taking any orders ever again ". What do you expect from fathers with that attitude , it has proved the thinking had become the way of life , rather than to be proud their service was for the betterment and survival of our country. Negativism still prevails.

With the coming election next y ear , there is a term that will need to be addressed , in particular by a candidate who will be running for President. I would like to know what the average citizen thinks the term means to him/her. Don't go to Wikipedia and get their idea , they are not the one who will be concerned. Your personal concept is important , please state exactly what the term means to you , not what it means to someone else. I get very provoked when I go to the grocery store and children run up and down the aisles , bumping into displays as well as carts , and the mothers ( I assume) pay no attention to them at all. I disagree with you. I realize right now California is in dire straights because of the fires then the flooding but that could happen to any state. They are far from last in being a decent place to live. I could give you examples of places in far worse condition but it would be a waste of time to expect you to understand. You might be right , I've been thinking recently about the hatred - both parties - insults , lack of concern for the nation rather than concern for a party. I wonder ??? Suppose when an elected official is sworn in he/she vows to put their party loyalty aside and agree to be 100% for solving the problems of our nation. Kids , yes , include 20+ year olds, I was invited to Christmas Dinner at a relative's house , 2 young men (kids) ate with their caps on , where is and what has happened to manners ? blame ? the blame lies on the voters , and the worst part of it is too many voters have the idea that "if he/she belong to my party , I have to vote for him/her". hog wash ! neither party has all the answers , but the problem is most voters do not study the candidates , they just listen to the garbage many candidates spew and most candidates fabricate stories (lies mostly ) in order to get the ignorant voters to vote for them personally rather than voting for the ones that are qualified . the American way should be vote for the qualified , not the party. studecar
